the problem is Andrew Neville, who negotiates all our transfers, told someone on here that Pearson rate Wellens quite highly, so unless something changes we're gunner be stuck with him

I know you like him but he's been slightly above average at best, flicks and tricks, which don't always come off, a side he has never been that great for us

He was one of the players of the season 09/10 & he was bloody mighty fine in 10/11 through to March 11, in fact he actually was player of the season in 10/11 along with King (people's next hate figure probably once Wellens has been forced out)

He has been poor since, but guess what... so has the whole team as we fell apart at the end of last season - bar a couple of individuals (last season Naughton & Mee when he wasn't being ****ed around with Bruma at the end of last season) and then this year - Kasper, Peltier & Nugent,,,, barring that everyone has fallen well short.

This isn't no Wellens love, it's bemusement at sheeple with short term memories.

I say drop him & if whoever replaces him takes the opportunity & Wellens never sets foot in the starting line-up then so be it, but I don't needlessly hate Wellens, on balance he's been a great signing and if whoever steps in doesn't make the most of the opportunity then Wellens might be able to regain form having had 3 or 4 games on the sidelines.

I wouldn't say a joke - he was mainly decent from Sven's arrival through to the new contract, nowt special but not as incredibly crap as he has been this season.

However how he got POTS ahead of the likes of Naughton & King in particular was strange to say the least.

Its all about opinions, Wellens and Naughton were well clear of anybody else for POTS last season IMO, its a shame he has dropped off so badly form wise this season

I think you lot have done brilliantly to remain at this level for four years. Having said that, and I don't mean any disrespect as I have nothing against you, we should be beating you. You are near the bottom for a reason and we have to take the points from these games.

However, we were not good enough to win, I thought it was a match between two sides short of quality, you had a bit more spirit and a class winner.

I've no complaints over the result, just our performance.

I think the problem with Wellens is that the hunger has disappeared (insert fat jokes here). He's reached a point in his career where he knows the only way is down, he's sitting on a good contract and is and has been pretty much the first name on the teamsheet since he's been here.

He needs a monumental kick up the arse, the only thing you can do is drop him but will that do the trick? After all, he'll still get paid won't he.

I think he still has it in him to be a key player for us but it's really up to him if he can find the motivation to get his arse in gear and start performing again.

If not, we should definitely get rid, because let's face it he's never going to be good enough for the Prem if and when we go up anyway.

I wondered if there were any happy-clappies left to make a case for the manc parasite.

He was a flat-track bully during his first season here, occasionally impressing in games against the lesser lights of the division, but regularly going AWOL against bigger fish like West Brom, Newcastle and Forest. He was however one of the better players in Cardiff at the end of the season, perhaps realising it was his last chance to reach the top flight.

He then became unsettled when Sousa arrived, perhaps because the new manager was a former midfielder of some repute (Champions League winner) who had little time for show ponies. The No. 19 was dropped to the bench for the season-opener at Palace, though given his replacement was a certain Matt Oakley, it's no surprise the team struggled.

After Sousa left he was back in favour under Sven and had a couple of decent games against Man City which contributed massively to his POTS award. Such performances showed how capable he could be when really up for it. However he was again found wanting against the top Championship sides, and as his form slumped, so did that of the team.

This season he finally achieved his wish of captaining the side, having previously been overlooked in favour of younger players like Jack Hobbs and more recently Andy King. The miserable record of 4 points out of 24 in games where he's worn the armband tells its own story. We've had inspirational captains (Walsh, Elliott, even Simon Grayson) among our ranks over the years. It's fair to say he's fallen well short of their standards.

Having been unfortunate enough to witness his steady decline over many months, I am not convinced he'll be able to reverse it, or that he has any meaningful part to play in the revival of our promotion challenge.

If Donny want him back, they'd be welcome to him, though I doubt he'd be an improvement on what they already have in midfield..

I actually think people give a more honest view of players they've never heard of as they have no preconceived ideas about them, I'd never heard of Tunchev, Abe, or several others we've signed over the years and been thuroughly impressed with them, Wellens, to me has always been a pretty average Championship midfielder until about April this year when he dropped off the proverbial cliff to our right liability. That doesn't mean he can't come back from this, Oakley did it last season when he had that run as the holding player I thought he was outstanding in it as his legs had gone but he was still a technically good player so just asking him to do the Makelele role suited his current level of ability. Whether Wellens can, will or would even want to adapt his game to suit his obvious lack of fitness remains to be seen
