Foxes "turned down Paul Lambert"

Former Champions League winner Paul Lambert applied for the manager's post at Leicester in June 2008, it was revealed last night.

Lambert, currently manager of Norwich City, was unemployed at the time, resigning from previous club Wycombe after League 2 playoff failure the previous month.

The vacancy at the Foxes arose following the club's relegation to League 1 and the subsequent dismissal of boss Ian Holloway.

Lambert's interest in the vacancy was announced by BBC Leicester reporter Ian Stringer, a former correspondent for clubs in the Thames Valley.

He issued the following statement on his Twitter page.

got to know him really well at Wycombe. Banter flies, very sarcastic+dry. Applied for #lcfc job when Ollie left, no reply, oops

City, under the ownership of Milan Mandaric at that time, eventually appointed Nigel Pearson as the replacement for Holloway. He is in now in his second spell at the club.

Meanwhile Lambert, after a season at Colchester, has guided the Canaries from the lower reaches of League One to the top ten of the Premier League. He was unavailable for comment on this story.

Whoops!!

I reckon Lambert could even be the next Manager of Man Utd...

He has a certain air of calm about him.. Just quietly oozes self confidence

Who cares though, we've got Pearson...

Makes no difference, Mandy would have got rid most probably if he had come here and had any success just like he was levering Pearson out for Soussa.

Bit of a pointless non story to be honest and one just to stir up more divisive arguing :surrender:

God, i can already imagine it in five pages time.

Exactly.

Pearson did an unbelievable job the first time around and was undoubtedly the right appointment.

You couldn't predict Lambert would be where he is now.

What is the point of Stringer raking this up though?  Did he need suggest that we missed out big time just because he gets on with him?

Pearson did a fantastic job first time round.  Would not have changed it for the world.  Revitalised my support for the club.  MM should never have got rid of him in the first place(I realise he walked before somone adds this but he definitely jumped before he was pushed).

I just hope he can revitalise the club again as we are in danger of drifting through the rest of the season without drastic improvement.

What was his record at the time?

NP did everything he was to paid to do in that spell anyway, and who knows if NP had continued and if it weren't for Hoos, Manderic & Sousa we could have been in the Prem instead of them

Is it just me or is he similar to O Neil? Just reminds me of a young o neil

Someone else mentioned that on Twitter, suggesting he's taken Norwich to where they would have been if MON had stayed there.

In fairness to Mandaric though, there was nothing in his record at the time to indicate the success he would later enjoy. MON (and later, even Peter Taylor) led Wycombe to promotion. Lambert didn't.

Not quite sure why Stringer has chosen to break this story now, and in this way.

Who's to say that Lambert would've achieved what he's achieved at Norwich at Leicester? He may have had a poor first half of the season, been sacked and then where would we have been?

I doubt he could've done a better job than Pearson personnally.

Doesn't really annoy me to be honest, we achieved pretty much all we could during Pearsons first spell, had we have gone up in the play-off season- i believe we most certainly would have come straight back down.

If Pearson had've stayed here I'm gonna go as far as saying we'd be in the prem now.

Total non story why are people always bringing up the past and past decisions "oh we could of had him" could of should of would of. NP saved us in league 1 and kept us in the championship and if it wasn't for a few dodgy decisions in Cardiff and mr Yann we COULD of and SHOULD of gone up to the premier league. Let's start looking forward instead of lurking in the past

A complete non story. Ok so we turned down Lambert and many others who applied for the job, so what?

Is this just Stringers way of trying to wind up NP even more.

We all get a jist of NP's opinion of Stringer, so why make things worse?

For once I agree with you.

Lambert has done really well but dont think he could have done any better than NP in his first spell.

When we made the PO's the league was much harder than when Norwich got second, it didnt have a Newcastle or a WBA in it, though that is nothing against his achivement with Norwich as he is an outstanding manager.

People are reading this wrong...

If you go on twitter and look at Stringer's page, and look who he sent it too (Arlo White), you'd understand he's not just released it.

@ArloWhite put

Paul Lambert appears awfully dour in interviews

So Stringer just replied what he knew about him from interviewing him previous times...

Its a non story, and who's to say if Lambert came that we'd be in the Championship now? For all you know, we could be sat in league 1 still!

He might've been a disaster here, you just don't know.

Pearson did nearly as well as Lambert did in his first two seasons.

And anyway, as I said elsewhere, if Colchester had won 1-0 at Norwich instead of 7-1 would the Norwich board have been that impressed?

It's three-and-a-half years since this took place so there's no point regretting anything.

He's the new MON, he's been at Wycombe like MON, managing Norwich like MON did, and hopefully will ditch Norwich for Leicester like MON did! lol

You never know hey History repeating itself, and then Lambert leaves us for Celtic his "boyhood club"
