Tielemans63 Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 Skysports are saying that Wolves are interested in talking to Gus Poyet. Think they'll probably go with Steve Bruce - master tactician.
StanSP Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 They've gone for Terry Connor. This made me laugh: Wolves' master plan: Aim for fresh, new direction by employing a man who has been at the club for 13 years. Genius.
Corky Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 So they've replaced their manager with his assistant? Obviously the job couldn't tempt anyone outside the club, not surprising really.
StanSP Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Exactly. Poyet, Curbishley, Bruce, Walter Smith - all steered clear. Sacking McCarthy has properly backfired now.
Happy Fox Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Can see them getting relegated now, but subsequently next season in the championship don't see them being much of a threat for automatic promotion.
Mack Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 There are 20 managerial jobs in the Premier League. What is wrong with the likes of Curbishley? He's not going to get the Chelsea or Arsenal job so why not have a go? Even if they go down they will be in a strong position next season. Seems a bit cowardly.
Salieri Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 There was a quote from the owner defending the appointment by saying that Connor has been central to the success achieved under Mick McCarthy. By that sentiment then surely he has been central to the recent FAILURE!!! Bit of a limp appointment and Wolves a cert to go down now (Wigan and Blackburn to join them I reckon).

I thought that when it was revealed he turned them down. Also, when SSN broke McCarthy had gone, Curbishley said he would be interested in the job I said at the start of the season they would get relegated. Not good enough in my opinion. If I was Roger Johnson I would have stayed at Birmingham, played in Europe, got back in the Premier League with Birmingham instead of fighting, maybe getting relegated, again.
Salieri Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 I'm surprised Curbishley hasn't landed a job yet. You'd think after so long out of the loop he'd be delighted at the chance to manage a (albeit struggling) Premier League team again. He did a great job at Charlton with limited resources so a lack of finances shouldn't worry him. Must be comfortable doing media work I guess but if he does want to get back into management then he's not going to get an offer from a team much higher than the likes of Wolves in a hurry.
FoxyPV Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Recently Wolves has been like a blocked desperate teen nearing the end of the disco looking for ANYTHING to get off with so the night's not deemed a failure and still being left having a crywank at home
Jimothy Posted 25 February 2012 Posted 25 February 2012 After the WBA defeat I said the my mate the final nail in McCarthy's coffin wasn't just the manner of defeat but the selection. The midfield 3 wasn't strong enough, but most of all the top three of Ebanks-Blake, Fletcher and Doyle just didn't work. They are all decent players in their own right but not really suited to a front 3. Fletcher also played wide right of those 3, which as a tall strong goalscorer was a stupid position to put him. Ebanks-Blake as a quick mobile player would have been more suited to that role. The team just didn't work. Terry Conners being assistant manager to McCarthy would have had some say in that selection, not the final say, but he would have had some input. So nothing is going to change really, it's like having McCarthy lite. The same mistakes will be made, the same poor team selections will be sent out in games, all except they won't have a hugely experienced manager in charge they'll have someone who's never manager a team in his life. We saw it when Kean step into Alladyce's shoe's at Blacburn, the only way Wolves will be heading with the appointment is down.
21st Century Fox Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Wolves are set to appoint Stale Solbakken as manager with Terry Connor expected to stay on as coach. Norwegian Solbakken was sacked by FC Köln four games before their relegation from Bundesliga 1.

For some strange reason I just don't see that working out Will be nice to see a new approach from somebody next year
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 I bet they regret getting rid of him, who will go there? Curbishley? Bruce?
21st Century Fox Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 For some strange reason I just don't see that working out Will be nice to see a new approach from somebody next year Well Köln got relegated even though they had the joint 4th top goalscorer in the league (Podolski).
Happy Fox Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 It is a gamble on Wolves part but I can see it working out for some reason lets hope they aren't going to be promotion challengers next season.
RowlattsFox Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 As Sven found out last season, this league is difficult to manage in if you don't know the leagues. That's why he has kept Terry Connor on, to help with knowledge. I'd expect Wolves to still be challenging next season, can'tsee them losing two many players. Wolves fans seem excited by this, despite him relegating a side this season, I'm not 100% on my german teams but I would have thought Koln shouldn't be getting relegated. Wonder if Wolves fans would be happy if they appointed Steve Kean, who has also got a side relegated this season. fans get excited by a foreign name.I appreciate that Solbakken has done good jobs in the past.
shen Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 Well Köln got relegated even though they had the joint 4th top goalscorer in the league (Podolski). He was the only quality player in that squad. Lower midtable is realistically all they could've achieved this year. As Sven found out last season, this league is difficult to manage in if you don't know the leagues. Solbakken is a fine coach. Obviously winning league titles with FC Copenhagen isn't too challenging if we're being honest, particularly the way their main competitor (Brøndby IF) have imploded ever since Michael Laudrup left. Odense BK have challenged a bit and while they've attracted good names they have nowhere near the same financial clout as Copenhagen, so competition has been limited. But his achievements in the CL have been commendable (even if there have been some serious failures too). He'll get Wolves competing.
Corky Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 Leicesterpool needs to sort his list of names out, we all saw this coming.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 Never heard of him http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2142854/Wolves-confirm-Stale-Solbakken-new-manager.html I think Wolves will be up there next season, can't see them getting rid of many players
