FoxyMusic Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I don't understand why this thread has a question mark at end of it?
broughtonblue Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Definitely. I can never understand when we need a goal in the last few minutes why we bring a big man on and play long balls, if this is the best chance of scoring then why not play like it all match? It is not the style of play I would like at all but the game is about scoring!
Daggers Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 And what would the team do without his pace, huh? Quite obviously a number of you haven't thought this through.
Webbo Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Definitely. Jimmy Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 would rather see the young lad Hopper getting the 5-10 mins Howard gets now, much better for us long term
Jimmy Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 The reason why Howard makes the bench is probably because he's the only striker to give us a different option ie. the only one who can win anything in the air and just be a lump who can hold it up. Again, I won't be surprised if Pearson doesn't seek out a younger, better version in the summer. but he doesn't though, he just gives away fouls
lcfcsnow Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 would rather see the young lad Hopper getting the 5-10 mins Howard gets now, much better for us long term Agreed, he also came closer to scoring in those few minutes than Howard has all season.
blue army 1988 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Yes he is past his best, but there is no one else at the club who is the same player as big steve so I can see why he can get on the bench the odd times
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Steve Howard to come off the bench and score the winning goal to make it 2-1 to us!
skinnydipper Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Steve deserves to be on the Park every Saturday afternoon. Fosse Park. No harm in giving Hopper a bit of a try from the bench IMO
Nicobonibus Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I do like steve.. he does give us a different option up front. but he has past it and i feel we need a replacment..
ZackkkLCFC Posted 16 February 2012 Author Posted 16 February 2012 Hopper came off the bench against Swindon and within two minutes made a good run to be played in on goal, he needs to be on the bench to gain experience. I agree with the whole bringing Howard on for a different approach but surely we'd have found another player like him by now who is 10 years younger.. He does foul most of the time.
Nicobonibus Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 that whys i would of like somone like john carew or somone like that..
ramadaone Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Yes he is past his best, but there is no one else at the club who is the same player as big steve so I can see why he can get on the bench the odd times Bollox - Hopper is already a better bet long term - NP just needs to give the lad a chance
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Steve to score the winner and you will all love him
LcFc_Smiv Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 Bollox - Hopper is already a better bet long term - NP just needs to give the lad a chance Yes but Blue army's point was that there isn't a player who can do a similar job to Howard as in playing as the target man, which Hopper certainly is not. Pretty sure Pearson also gave him a run in the game against Swindon, which was our last game that was not a league match. That would suggest to me he is being given a chance, especially when he's still so young and turning out for the reserves as well when they have a game (yes it's a rare occasion).

Howard can't play as a target man any more either, he hardly ever wins a header without fouling the defender in the process. With Pompey in admin again get Márkó Futács as a replacement for Howard and Huseklepp in to full the gap left by Vassell that was never filled
ScouseFox Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 Why is there a question mark at the end of the thread title? Of course he's past it.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 He was never good, wouldnt get in my 6 a side team. Someone shoot him. You sir, are sadly deluded. Having said that, his best years are most certainly behind him, but he does provide something that no one else (currently fit) does to the team. Which shows how sadly short we are on quality attacking players.
MrFox781 Posted 17 February 2012 Posted 17 February 2012 No where near past it, he's a tleast got another four years in him...
