NiftyFox Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Reading last year after 31 games had 43 points, only 1 point better than us at this current stage of the season. They managed to go on a run and make the play-offs. Hope is not over. Foxes Never Quit
FrankieADZ Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 think they went on something like a 9 game winning run....if only we could I'd be happy to win 2 league games in a row at this stage.
Babylon Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 It's improbable, not impossible. Why people slated Pearson for trying to keep the players mentality correct the other night I have no idea. Whilst it's a possibility, that's what we should be aiming for no matter how unlikely.
purpleronnie Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Reading were (are) better than us. And stop using that benign phrase its irritating.
Babylon Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Reading were (are) better than us. Obviously they weren't that much better this time last year being only a point ahead.
purpleronnie Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Obviously they weren't that much better this time last year being only a point ahead. Well put your money where your mouth is. If you think we'll finish where reading did last season I'll be more than happy to take that bet.
Babylon Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Well put your money where your mouth is. If you think we'll finish where reading did last season I'll be more than happy to take that bet. Yeah because I said we WOULD didn't I.... oh hang on no I didn't.
Ric Flair Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Our squad is more talented than theirs was or is now, we just have an appalling work ethic week in, week out. Until we get that, we're as poor as anything in this league on a regular basis.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 It won't happen. Reading had a team that don't have as much ability as ours, but they had players who worked hard for each other and they didn't have man big ego players. And McDermott got the best out of them something Pearson isn't doing.
crisp packet Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Until we get two wins in a row well never know, if we can get 9 But if we did get 2 .....
MrFox781 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Were leicester for gods sake not reading, the fact that were leicester is the reason were going nowhere. were cursed.
Happy Fox Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 All this talk of the playoffs even from NP should be abandoned it is adding unnecessary pressure on a squad of players who cannot get 2 league wins in a row, I think as Ric alluded something doesn't seem right. Nugent admitted he thought that, once he had fired City ahead, they would go on to claim the victory. But he believes there may be an element of complacency within the City camp when they face sides they are expected to beat. "When we took the lead, I thought we would win," he said. "We didn't get out of second gear all game but we were still in the lead and needed to up our game to stay on top. But we weren't good enough in the end. "We seem to struggle against the sides below us in the league and do well against the higher teams. I think it is a mental thing where we come to the lower teams and think it is going to be easy, when it isn't because anyone can win in the Championship. "I still believe. There are still a lot of games and point Says it all really.
J.Lisemore Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Our squad is more talented than theirs was or is now, we just have an appalling work ethic week in, week out. Until we get that, we're as poor as anything in this league on a regular basis. Supposedly. The only time we've actually looked like a team was Southampton away.
accessory Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Reading had achieved back-to-back league wins FIVE TIMES by this stage last season. Anyone who uses the glib (and demonstrably false) marketing slogans ("Foxes never quit", "Keep the faith", "We're all in this together" etc) that have been issued by our club during the past dismal decade should face an immediate ban from these boards..
Corky Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 You can bring up Reading, Palace from a few years ago, Sunderland. It's all irrelevant, because WE are showing no signs of getting higher than 11th right now. One Team, One Dream (to have a single figure finish this year).
Ashley Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I am one of the last people to admit defeat but let's be realistic here. We haven't won back to back games since a year or over ago? It would be nice to reach the play-offs yes our squad is more than capable to do so as well but we don't capitalise on matters when we need to make it count!

NewburyFox Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Reading also had Shane Long, who I feel made a massive difference. We don't have anyone as prolific as he was last season.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Love how people cling on to these pointless facts from previous seasons about teams going on a run. We arent good enough to start one, havent played well enough and cant win two in a row so why even talk about it? Love the positivity though!
Guy Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Reading last year after 31 games had 43 points, only 1 point better than us at this current stage of the season. They managed to go on a run and make the play-offs. Hope is not over. Foxes Never Quit I remember the famous 1996 pre-play offs time under O'Neill (when he was being berated by certain sections of the crowd at the time after the Sheffield United home defeat- unthinkable now!!) - and that was at the end of March! I don't know how our points total stacked up at the time in relation to the games we'd played exactly but I remember us being 11th - and all I could sense at the time was despair! I think we won our last seven games, beat Stoke over two legs and Palace at Wembley of course. Having not even won back to back games this season then history is unlikely to repeat this season but you never know in this "funny old game"......
Babylon Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Love how people cling on to these pointless facts from previous seasons about teams going on a run. It's not clinging, it can be done. Reading had not been good enough this time last year either. Which is exactly why they were only one point better off than we are now. We have the team to do it, we've made many of the top teams in this division look like chumps on our day. If we find a way of keeping the players motivated and focused against teams below us you never know. As I keep saying it's improbable not impossible. The chances are we won't get close, but it aint over til it's over.
Libertine Dream Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 For the people laughing at this, ask yourself what would your reply have been after Cardiff? Personally Ive thought since Xmas that we wouldnt go up but the fan in me keeps telling me we may make it.
