Nigel Pearson doesn't rate Matt Mills

To all the lads saying "Mills is shit" etc: Wellens is the only player to have registered a greater amount of assists than Mills in the league for us so far this season.

Just because he was dropped for a poor performance doesn't mean he doesn't rate him, Mills is a good defender but he can make stupid decisions at times, he was poor at Watford and that means you face getting dropped and Pearson has showed him that even if he is captain he has to perform or will face being dropped, he has realized this and I hope he gets his head up and works hard, just like St. Ledger did even when he was still transfer listed

Wonder if this will ever happen?

Schmeichel

St ledger mills morgan Konchesky

Bamba

Marshall Danns/Wellens Dyer

Beckford Nugent

Its unlikely to happen not unless FIFA increase the amount of players allowed on the pitch to 12 players per team

I think the / in between Danns and Wellens is to indicate one or the other

Sick of all this shit stirring to be honest.

I started the thread after being told this information (from a very good source) about NP's views - it was in no way intended as shit stirring and it wasn't in direct relation to Mills being dropped yesterday. But obviously NP sent out a clear message to the player yesterday.

Caught Mills on our way back to the pub from the ground yesterday. Face like thunder.

Some people don't read the whole thread and just see it as another slag off Mills thread, understandable there have been a lot of them.

As I said before it depends on how you interpret that comment, "NP doesn't rate Mills", doesn't mean he thinks he's shit, just that he is not as good as 5 million pounds/captain/automatic choice should be. Which is pretty much the truth.

nothing wrong with that so long as he doesn't cause any trouble of kick off, personally, I want players to be angry at being dropped, makes them more determined to stay in the team when they get back in

I'm not a Mills hater or Mills lover. The jury is still out for me. Rated him highly when I saw him a lot at Reading - obviously we overpaid but I thought he'd step up. There's definitely something good in there but something is missing.

The exact text I received said: "The gaffer doesn't rate Mills one bit. It's his contract which is the problem. And he's a big time charlie." It didn't come from a player or member of LCFC staff by the way. I'm not claiming to be "ever reliable" like the mighty Bert (no, I'm not taking the piss Bert) but I get one or two bang on nuggets of info here and there.

Based on our fans towards Wellens, that sort of makes you think assists is a good hate indicator lol

As for Mills himself.

I think he was one of these players that just NEEDED to perform for us. One we're stuck with regardless of how he plays due to the fact he's most likely on incredible money and the fact he's a club record signing.

On the pitch, he's good. Nothing more. For what we paid, we should get outstanding, "good" is what I'd expect from £1mil. I know the fee doesn't always dictate things, but I guess I'm sort of stating what we all think of the value of the transfer - bad.

He's a good defender but often struggles, often beaten for pace, struggles against target men, in-fact, those two alone are fvcking worrying.

His distribution is a funny one, it's the option he chooses rather than the technical side for me. He can pass it well, he just so often makes the stupid choice and hoofs it to no-one, does occasionally completely mis-hit it, but we all make mistakes.

As for his attitude - whether it's just the bloke himself but he seriously does just seem a miserable person. Not a criticism (well it could be considering the lifestyle he probably lives) but has anyone seen him smile? Compare it to Nugent, who's always playing with a smile on his face, looking like he's genuinely enjoying it, Mills looks like he hates playing football.

I do think there's a lot more to come from him, but it's safe to say he's been one of the worst value for money deals we've ever made. Cost us a lot of points (although he's contributed to winning some, to be fair) and a lot of money. I hope for the best but I'm not confident and if he doesn't get on with Pearson (which wouldn't one bit surprise me) then he could be off.

To be fair that's probably because I ran and jumped on him then he had to shake god knows how many fans hands. lol

When Morgan was signed despite us having a selection of other centre backs it pointed towards Pearson not being totally happy with our options at the back.

Morgan and St Ledger will be our defence going forward now, and as I stated in a previous thread I'm concerned about what Mills and Bamba will do about that.

Weighing everything up, I think Mills has all the attributes to be a good centre back.

He's no slouch

He's not bad in the air

He seems to know how to make a tackle.

For me, the problem is a psychological one. He always seems, to me anyway, to be nervous when he's playing. He doesn't have that swagger about him of a player who is confident and who knows he's gonna put in a good performance. I said yesterday, and stick by it, that Morgan at Norwich looked happy both before the game and composed during it. It was as though SSL and Morgan knew, quite early on, that Norwich's front two weren't gonna give them too much trouble and, when they did, one was gonna cover for the other.

Mills doesn't inspire this confidence when he's playing IMO.

I don't know if it's the price tag? Or the captaincy of the team?

But something about him makes me feel nervous when he's playing.

I hope this can somehow be rectified because Mills is not a bad defender.

He came to us in the back of a very good season at Reading and was captain of a very good Championship side.

However, Pearson likes the confident, consistent players in his teams IMO.

For this reason, I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to stick with the same centre back pairing for the Derby game.

And again, I'm pretty sure that Nige will really define his squad in the summer. There will be a significant change of personnel IMO.

So it's not just his price tag then, but reading that, it's the money he's on, Sven really ballsed that signing up. If he is being a big time charlie then hopefully a spell on the sidelines will bring him back down to earth.

Can all these people no can read Nigel's mind tell me what he thinks of me? Because I fvcking love him! ;)

Well the text I got said, "The gaffer really rates jonlcfc1990, definitely one for the future, but can be a little needy at times, and really needs to stop e-mailing Nigel naked pictures, or at least vary the poses."

Unfortunately for Nige it's the only way i know how to show my love. The pictures will continue i'm afraid

Can I ask how his contract is a reason to not rate him? Surely his contract doesn't affect his talent. So really NP wants him gone to bring the wage bill down and appears not to like him, not because he's not very good.

I read it as, the contract is the reason why Mills is playing shit and thinks he is a big time charlie, because he's on loadsa money, and thinks he has made it.

I can't imagine anything to do with captaincy and being an automatic choice would be in the contract, but Sven giving him the captaincy and a massive wage and signing on fee probably hasn't helped things.

There was the incident at the end of the Watford game that a few people have commented on, where NP told him to go and applaud the fans (and then not go to McDonalds), that may have been the last straw for him in Pearson's eyes
