shen Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Sven sold Hobbs and the Thais brought Sven here. Fair point, but the point I'm making is that the Thais sanctioned the deals for Hobbs and Mills respectively. I don't believe Sven brokered the deals...
Captain... Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Fair point, but the point I'm making is that the Thais sanctioned the deals for Hobbs and Mills respectively. I don't believe Sven brokered the deals... How it seems to work these days is the manager will identify a target, then the director of football or some other such position will then go and secure the deal. I am guessing whoever did this, most likely not Sven, was instructed to get Sven's targets at any cost, and got done by Mills' agent. Regardless of his wage and transfer fee and captaincy, Mills has been disappointing, good games followed by bad, terrible distibution yet got a few assists with his punts. His performances pretty much sum up our season. High expectations followed by inconsistency and ultimately disappointment.

His performances pretty much sum up our season. High expectations followed by inconsistency and ultimately disappointment. How this generally works in the private sector is that the 'negotiator' will look to the 'manager' to seek some guidance on what they believe something is worth (whether this be a player, a fleet of cars, a health/social care package or whatever). The final 'haggling' is then done between two negotiators. If this is the case with football, and I would assume it probably is? Then Sven would have liaised, at least initially, with the lady/fella negotiating the terms of the deal. I would be very surprised if this is done with no input from the manager whatsoever. I couldn't, for example, see Sir Alex wanting a player on huge wages if he considered that player to be not worth anywhere near that money. To do so can cause friction amongst the squad and make it difficult to sell an under achieving player. The best deals are usually done when the people negotiating the purchase are communicating constantly and advising each other. If Sven, as you suggest, had no input in this process, this would be ridiculous as it could saddle the club with a player like Mills, making it massively difficult to move him on should the manager wish to.
ElbertTheFox Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 mills dropped again for the game tonight.
Webbo Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 As was confirmed by the Redknapp trial, managers get a percentage of transfer fees, which gives managers a conflict of interest in transfer dealings.

I thought we were talking about the wages of the player, not the transfer fee itself?
cc_star Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 I don't know why people are so disbelieving of the £40k figure Quite a few of our targets were of interest to Premier League clubs and players generally earn around that amount there, why would they come here for less? Thanks to not being in the Prem it's conceivable that players would actually be paid more to come here... they'd never have came to a mid-table Championship side for equal or less, get real people. It's obviously in that region... along with quite a few others too

I'm so glad some semblance of sense appears to have returned to the club.
WhenYourSmilingLCFC Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 I'm sure Pearson just said he hasn't spoke to Matt Mills lately on Sky Sports. Haha. Correct me if I'm wrong...
Drift Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Pre-match interview went like this... Sky: Can you tell us why Matt Mills isn't playing? NP: He didn't get picked. Sky: What did he think about that? NP: I haven't spoken to him.
lcfc2k Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Well after that sky interview, I do not think he has a future here much longer !!! Good ridance to getting rid of a Big Ego is my view !

Sky: What did he think about that? NP: I haven't spoken to him. Didn't sound good did it, NP really needs to work on his media persona, it was clear he didn't want to talk about it, but all he has done is stoked the fire, ether be totally honest or trot out the tired old cliches which don't actually mean anything. "He has a knock and is looking tired", "we are employing squad rotation", "Mills understands that and is going to have to earn his place in the team like anyone else."

I don't think he needs to work on his media persona at all. I loved that he was abrupt and didn't come out with any rubbish excuses. Well done Nigel..

Jace Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 £5 Million pounds to sign Matt Mills from Reading £40,000 per week wages for his services Nigel Pearson's explanation of why Mills has been dropped from the squad, PRICELESS.

Guest shearfox Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Morgan at the moment just looks a better player....
Corky Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Morgan looks a lot more comfortable than Mills.
Leicfox Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 NP being very cagey with the reporter. Got to give the bloke credit though he did try.
blueharmie Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Bye mills. Not a patch on Morgan. Pearson just said he has an ego.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 It looks like there's been a clash of egos between Mills and Pearson. There's only gonna be one winner there...
