Babylon Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 One look at that squad should scare off any potential manager... thank god for the £6m a year wages.

Out Foxed Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 oxade is playing for the yoof. so cool yourselves.
Jimothy Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 That's a bit of an odd squad really. A lot of people were bricking it that Pearce was gonna pick all the kids but he hasn't really. As people have said Carson is an odd inclusion, Ruddy or Stockdale would make more sense. Good to see Michah Richards back in the squad but 3 RB's is a bit Megson for my liking. Would have rather seen someone like Spearing or Rodwell instead of Barry and any other winger instead of Downing. Campbell is an odd inclusion and is obviously a Pearce favourite else his injury problems would have kept him far from the squad. Shame Agbonlahor has been overlooked again. It's 5 if you think about it. Johnson and Walker are out and out right-backs. Richards is too but can play in the centre. And Jones and Smalling have played most of season in that position despite being centre-backs by trade. The only defender in the squad who's had a large amount of playing time at centre back is Cahill.

Strange one, that.
ousefox Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Are Ferdinand and Lampard both fit? Wouldn't have Ferdinand myself, but Lampard should be in really.
Libertine Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Are Ferdinand and Lampard both fit? Wouldn't have Ferdinand myself, but Lampard should be in really. Why? It's a friendly and he barely starts now anyway for club or country.
ScouseFox Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Baffles me how, but Lescott has been playing superbly for the team currently top of the league. Yet Gary Cahill is included. Interesting one. Downing
Langston Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Sneijder van der Vaart de Jong van Persie Robben etc etc Not a prayer. People thought the same before a friendly a few months back too, think we won....

You REALLY have an issue with those players. They've performed admirably all season in a team riding high on top of the Premier League. The fact they were caught cold in the Champions League doesn't make them any less than they are.
ScouseFox Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 Looking again, that really is a shit squad.

I don't have issues with them, I want Man City to win the league, I just find it farcical a country with our football traditions and history is now resorting to having players like on the pitch in major tournaments. Despite how good they have been I can;t help thinking Kompany (who is geniune world class) is the glue that holds them together. Replace him with Savic and I thought their defence looked very ordinary again. I find it very humiliating and it upsets me. We are sending these boys round the world as the best representation of what we produce, it's intolerable. I don't even want to watch the Euros.

Man city have the funds to buy pretty much any player as we have seen, yet they stick with these players, there is a reason for that....

Money hasnt purchased them half of what they wanted, remember Dani Alves? Think Richards starts ahead of him? Rooney? The bid in Jan for De Rossi?, believe me Barry doesnt keep his place if that comes off. We'll have a bet if you want, I'll say 2 of those 3 regulars mentioned wont start their first champions league game next season.

Guest MattP Posted 23 February 2012 Posted 23 February 2012 I would say both Richards and Lescott will not be replaced for sure. Could be right, all depends who is available. If Pique and Alves suddenly became possible you know what happens.

We beat a full strength Spain side with Lescott and Jagielka at centre backs, Johnson at right back, Phil Jones in centre mid, Walcott and Milner.....Look at all these players.... Does it get to you when we do well? I really hope it does.

If it did get to me it wouldn't have caused me much hassle in my lifetime would it?
Haydos Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 Didn't even watch it, don't watch friendlies. Meaningless. If it did get to me it wouldn't have caused me much hassle in my lifetime would it? So why do you care about this squad? It's meaningless in your opinion If that friendly didn't translate to anything then how does the squad for this one? Surely you can't keep being so inconsistently negative about everything just because you feel like it?
Guest MattP Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 So why do you care about this squad? Surely you can't keep being so inconsistently negative about everything just because you feel like it? I'm negative about it because I find some of this lot shameful they are near an England squad. Add to that Stuart Pearce is actually in charge of England for a game, it's a joke. If you want me to be positive speak to me about cricket or Nigel Pearson
Finnegan Posted 24 February 2012 Posted 24 February 2012 To be honest, Haydos, given you generally come across as a pretty smart lad I'm a tad surprised you're so baffled by Matt's stance. Do you not find watching your side struggle against Slovenia, the USA, Algeria, Wales, Montenegro and Switzerland just that tiny bit embarrassing? The Germans walked to a 100% record in a much tougher group, doing so whilst bringing through exciting prospects like Gotze and Reus and playing some cracking football. And you look through their league system and you can see why, German players making up the mainstay of the Bundesliga - a league in stable, economic condition. Then you look home at your domestic game, bankrupting itself to bring it foreign super stars in a desperate bid to maintain this Sky Sports image of the world's greatest league? Completely starving young English talent of good opportunities until clubs like United and Arsenal run out of mega bucks to pump into transfers and so have to "make do" with the Cleverlys, Wilshires and Smallings of this world and then they get exposure. Then what do you end up with as a national team? You're old enough and smart enough to know that beating Spain in one friendly is an irrelevance, especially when you've been otherwise dogshit in competitive competition for the last eight years or more. England is football mad and, despite clichés about "little" bull-dog Britain, actually has a reasonable population in the context of the European footballing community. You should be producing much better players and much more often than you are. And it's not just an excuse to take pot-shots at England, twist the knife because Wales are too shit to qualify. You can laugh it off as such if you want but I'm actually proud of our effort and endeavour, our players always turn up and give it 100% and if we just too shit we're just too shit, we're practically a micronation. You lot? Perpetual let down.
