UpTheLeagueFox Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Nobody nutted anyone. Mills took the piss out of Pearson which didn't go down very well, as expected, and given that Pearson already had serious doubts over the player's ability and didn't like his ego, it was no surprise he was frozen out.
StanSP Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Did Mills take the piss out of Pearson in front of him, or behind his back?
Saxondale Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Thanks for clearing that up. Only a brave man takes the piss out of Nigel Pearson, especially when he's your boss.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Thanks for clearing that up. Only a brave man takes the piss out of Nigel Pearson, especially when he's your boss. This... A managerial 'team' should be exactly that... If the players see that there is a rift between the manager and his 'captain' then dressing room unrest could ensue if something is not done about it. Without knowing all the details, this would suggest that Mills is in fact a mardy fooker and that Pearson has again done the right thing. As far as I'm concerned Mills should do one... He ain't needed at this football club.
StanSP Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Well, if this is true (not doubting you at same time), then Mills has been very unprofessional in his actions. By all means if you as a player have any queries or disagreements with the way your boss is managing you, then raise it up as a professional footballer, not to mention he's the captain and should be setting a better example. Do you know if Mills was provoked or how Pearson reacted (at the time, not being dropped for matches)?
Number 6 Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Fair play to Pearson here. He gave Mills a fair chance to prove himself as a player and it didn't happen, so he brought in Morgan. Even without this incident most LCFC fans wouldn't have shed a tear should he leave.

Jace Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Nothing wrong with a little bit of banter piss taking within a football team, think it would have to be quite offensive for Pearson to react badly. Cheers for the info djwanker!
Brooksy Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Always thought Mills was a bit of a twat. No doubt he'll be sold in the summer then
FrankieADZ Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 To his face apparently. hes a brave chap for doing that imo...
Corky Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 If there had been a headbutt someone would not be at the club now.

Cheers for the info djwanker! Every football team I've ever played for has had that banter. But there's a difference between light hearted piss taking and a direct verbal attack against anyone, let alone the manager. It would appear that this is what probably happened. There's always a line which can't be crossed because if it does chaos can ensue... Including splitting. When a squad becomes split you have a major problem. I believe that Pearson has taken this job on, knowing that there are some big egos within the squad and knowing that his approach, at least for the time being, needs to be autocratic. This is all speculation on my part, but I'd be surprised if Nige and his management team have not let it be known that they are not gonna take any shit from anyone. Including the media it would seem.. Good management.

Ccf, I agree with your take on this (as usual) Do you think that with Morgan signed in January, something clearly part of NP's masterplan, that NP might have been a little naughty and seen an opportunity to create this scenario? Obviously I don't know Pearsons character that well but if NP had made his mind up early doors about Mills perhaps he lined his replacement up (Morgan) and then waited for Mills to do something he could exploit and create the situation we currently have. On the matter of Mills going to Leeds, if indeed that is the current situation, Pearson appears to be taking alot of the flak for making this decision and I'm not sure it would be his to make. Once he's indicated that Mills needs to move out of the current squad for a period of time would it not fall to somebody else within the club to ship the player out in the most cost effective manner?

Is this piss taking the vile rant that was brought up before, or did that now not happen, I now have this mental image of Matt Mills at the front of the dressing room doing his NP impersonation, then the dressing room goes quiet as NP walks in but MM doesn't notice and continues until NP drags him off by the ear and gives him a detention.
Lambert09 Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Its supposed to be quite funny, Pearson clearly didnt think so

To be honest mate, on the former I have absolutely no idea and I doubt anyone would unless they were very close to Pearson. On the latter, I would have thought you were correct. Pearson himself couldn't dictate which club Mills would go to, if any. I guess that would be sorted out between the representative at the club and Mills agent?
cairnsy Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Clearly pearson cannot handle the banter In all fairness - if you know already he's not sure about you then you shouldn't really provoke him to dislike you further.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Clearly pearson cannot handle the banter In all fairness - if you know already he's not sure about you then you shouldn't really provoke him to dislike you further. I think Pearson probably CAN handle the banter. From what I hear he can very much enjoy a good laugh and the lads recently look pretty cheerful together. I think the point is that Pearson inherited a squad containing some big egos. He's therefore made up his mind that, for the moment, he's gotta quosh anything that he deems to be dissent, thus gaining controlling over what was reportedly a pretty 'lively' squad of players. If the reports were correct, the players 'managed' Sven, not vice- verca and Pearson must have known that turning this around was his first challenge. Once this process has been achieved, I fully expect a more laid-back Pearson to emerge as he would then be managing his own squad. Again, as I said before, most of this is mere speculation on my part but I would think this is what has probably happened. Mills appears to have been made an example of... Most probably because Pearson didn't particularly rate him anyway, thus making him 'expendable' so to speak.

Corky Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Pearson's so miserable and should lighten up. I've no idea what went on but he needs to have a laugh and take a joke.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Pearson's so miserable and should lighten up. I've no idea what went on but he needs to have a laugh and take a joke. Do you know he is? From what I get told he's got a good sense of humour and most of the players like him. But there's a line with him. A bit like Fergie in that respect.
Daggers Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 I've read in a rumour I made up on Twitter that he took a steaming dump in Pearson's kitbag and then pissed in it. Obviously this is nothing more than a possible rumour but if it is true the strongest action should be taken and the player should be banned from the stadium, the game and the city for life - if not longer. And Pearson should have seen the funny side so it just goes to show what a potentially miserable twat he might or might not be.

No-one on here knows EXACTLY what went on or was said (with the exception of maybe one or two, and I doubt they'd post it on here) so to call Pearson wrong or humourless without any real evidence is pretty pointless.
