Leicester City Rejects

I would love to know about what happened to some of the youngsters that never quite made it, going back a few years, I still see Stuart Campbell popping up for lower division sides, but people like:

Neil Lewis, Sam McMahon, Stuart Wilson, Lawrie Dudfield, Ashley Chambers, Tommy Wright all players who made an impact on the first time before slipping away.

Tommy Wright and Ashley Chambers play for sides in the Blue Square Premier. Pretty sure Chambers is with York and doing okay.

Ash Chambers is at York and enjoying it a lot working for Gary Mills.

Stuart Campbell now plays for someone in Division Two in America. The one below the MLS!

Well, can't remember if he's gone yet or just signed a contract. Bristol Rovers captain/midfield general/player coach/player manager in the past few years.

Im very surprised that some fans are putting Kisnorbo and Morrison in as 'reject' defenders. Morrison was excellent in league 1 for us especially considering he'd come from non league and Kisnorbo had some blinders at the back, he was just woeful in centre mid!

We've had far worse defenders:

Frank Rolling

Jacob Laursen

Matt Heath

Nikos Dabizas

Steve Howey

Bruno N'Gotty

Plus, some other dross worth mentioning....

Peter Canero

Jamie Clapham

Rufus Brevett

Nathan Blake

Joe Hamill

Elvis Hammond

Craig Hignett

Geoff Horsfield

Jason Jarrett

Michael Lamey

Jon Hayes

Chris Makin

Lee Morris

Shaun Newton

Momo Sylla

To be honest I couldn't give 2 furry shits what any of them in the second list are doing now, except Momo Sylla and Elvis, the rest were just shit players who contributed nothing to the club and were just seeing out their careers, barely even consider any of them as having played for Leicester.

Would be much more interested in the Likes of Tommy Wright (the original) Colin Hill, Lee Philpott, Scott Taylor, Gavin Ward (not the ref) players that actually contributed something to LCFC but never actually progressed after they left us. That is probably because they were the team of my youth, but they have also had enough time out the game to have done something,

"Hey Lee Morris, what have you done since leaving Leicester?"

"I've played for a succession of shit clubs, steadily slipping down the football ladder and now I am lucky to get a game for Eastwood town."

"Do you feel at all responsible for the plight of Leicester City in the early part of the Century?"

"Nah, loved it there, paid for my house innit."

Disapointed to see Paul Henderson mentioned. Lets be fair he was no Kasper Schmeichel but he did a good job for us.

Signed as a number 2 to RAB DOUGLAS! Got his place and mastered saving penalties. I remember he made a cracking pen save from Gareth Barry at home in the league cup. Also saved some pens just before we got relegated! Then saved 2 more in a JPT trophy game and then Pearson preferred David Martin. Always baffled me.

PS Harry Worley

Some of these are a bit harsh. A lot of them were good players but just past it a bit (Dabizas, Hignett, N'Gotty).

Though some were just cack (Lee Morris, Elvis)

and some were just out of their depth (Peter Canero, Jon Hayes).

I have started to list names, I have filled half a page full of rejects, and I am only on players with their last names ending in R.

If anybody has any rejects from the late 80's to early 90's please share them please.

That was a little bit before my time ;)

Thanks

It depends what you mean by rejects, if I were you I would focus on players that at least had some impact on the club, whether as cult status (Hellings, Kaebi) or by actually playing in a decent number of games, but never reaching legend status, I don't think anybody would be that interested in Lee Marshall or Peter Canero. I mean nobody was interested while they were at the club. Also if you intend to actually interview the players I would steer away from calling them rejects, they might not like it.

If you are looking early 90s think Brian Carey, Bobby Davison, Colin Hill, Neil Lewis, Nicky Mohan, Nicky Plateneur, Mark Blake, Scott Oakes, Paul Kerr (a loan signing back when loans were wierd and unusual) Mickey Galloway (another loan, broke his leg and had to retire from footy).

Thanks, and Im not interviewing any of them. I doubt they would be up for an interview for a feature called Leicester City rejects.

We have had many rejects, which come in different categories.

1.Players who only featured about once or twice, from the bench or starting line up

2.Players who made a number of appearances, like you said Lee Marshall and Canero etc...

3.Players who didn't make the cut, i.e Lee Tomlin, Billy McKay, Martin Reeves

4.Players we have had on loan, that being a fair few haha

Got an horrendous list, must be 50+ names.

Why not try and interview them, I'm sure most of them would be happy to talk about the glory days, I don't know how easy it would be to contact them, but that would be half the fun, tracking them down and talking to them, there are still quite a few living in the area. I can't imagine many people would be interested in interviewing them so it's not like you would be battling with the Sun for their time, if you had an interview with the players in your blog more people would read it. Just don't tell them it is Leicester Rejects.
