The Fox fanzine

Recommended Posts

Posted

Has been going for 25 years now and is still right up there in a market where many other fanzines are now sadly giving up.

It could do with an influx of new readers and subscriptions.

Who on here actually bothers to buy one?

If you do why not try and get a couple of mates to stump up and subscribe.

£15 for the 2012-2013 season including p+p, it's a bloody bargain.

"The only brown envelope I like getting in the post"

"A superb publication , both in termsof content and artwork" - Soar Media

Recent interviews have included Frank McLintock, David Pleat & Jimmy Bloomfield.

Cheques should be made payable to 'The Fox' and sent to:

The Fox

PO Box No2

Cosby

Leicester

LE9 1ZZ

or

payonline using the payment address [email protected] (add 50p for paypal charges)

This years subscriptin comes with a set of limited edition postcards.

Please note I have nothing to do with The Fox, I'm just trying to keep a Leicester fanzine going.

If you buy one please add your comments below and help support a veritable institution and a piece of Leiccester City history.

Thanks

What kind of stuff is in there? I always buy the programme instead. One of my best mates' dad is the guy who sells them near the ground (Simon Kimber)

Used to buy it all the time years ago, but lost a bit of respect for it when it started to use the club shop as a sales outlet, some of the stuff lost its cutting edge and controversial articles were few and far between, bought the last two issues after a long absence and its not bad, notice that they were doing about 15 years worth of back issues for £12 a few weeks back!

Review of a programme from 1981 (gary keeps everything football orientated that he has ever bought)

Match rports for the last 2 months

tittle tattle from around the ground

Fantatical Frank & Part Time Pete cartoon

40 something cartoon

Foxes Trust report

centre page spread of Tommy Wright

Fantastic piece entitled 'attitude sickness'

From the archive

Frank O'Farrel interview

Letters and emails

It costs £2 which is less than the programme and it's more inciteful and funnier.

They've interviewed Savage (lay on a chaise longe during it), Worthington etc

The players and managers all seem to know that they'll be allowed to put over their point.

Interviews over the last 2 years have included McAllister, Pearson, King, Banks, Marshall, Iwan Roberts, Sven, Powell and Claridge, you don't get that in the programme and I doubt any other fanzine gets to interview such clun stalwarts and heroes.

I always enjoy reading it. Not desperately cutting edge or controversial but I don't think it needs to be. It's worth the £15 over a year, it helps a good bloke survive and it's all about Leicester City.

PS

Perhaps I should start flogging copies of O'Neill: Crest Of A Wave on here. ( There's going to be a big bonfire one day if I don't shift them from the garage... lol )

I don't think Gary makes any money from it - it is more a labour of love. Being of a similar age to Gary I can identify with his outlook on all things LCFC. It is just about the one constant from the late 80s having survived so many other changes during this time. I love it! Long live The Fox!

Used to buy it regularly but the last time I bought one it seemed to be mostly recent match reports and repeats of what's been posted on Bentleys, but that was some time ago.

Have been buying it for 15 years (Christ!) and have subscribed for the last 2 or 3 'cos I'd stopped using the newsagents etc. where it's on sale (kinda happens when you start work in Daventry).

Love it and hope it continues for many more years. The Frank O'Farrell interview in the latest one is a good read, very candid about moving to United.

The only thing that's gone off the boil is the Fanatical Frank cartoons; different bloke drawing/writing it now and, although still worth a look, it's not as good as it used to be. Love Forty Something still, and the 'Spirit of Leicester City' centre-page pic is always a nice balst from the past.

For £15 for the season I'd genuinely urge people to sign-up to it. Infinitely better than the 'everything is wonderful at the club' programme.

Me too, didn't O'Neill slam it though saying he had nothing to do with it.

I was just trying to find proof of that, and I realised it was written by DJWanker, now I understand why he has lots in his garage.

Is that true that O'Neill was unhappy with it, or I am getting that confused with something else?

Edit: Getting back to the Fox, I used to like it then "Where's the money gone" came out and that was much better in my juvenile eyes, so I switched to WTMG, I was gutted when that stopped.

I bought my Dad a copy of the Fox when I was home for christmas (I put Ipswich boxing day tickets inside) but I did find it kinda dull, there were 5-6 pages of just a sort of review of what had happened over the last few weeks with no real insight.
