Club or Country?

Recommended Posts

I started a discussion on twitter with my mates last night, the majority of them are 'arm chair' fans who support top premier teams and not many have ever seen their teams ground.

I asked them if they would rather their club be more succesful or their country. I opted for club, only just,

just wondering what other people think?? I think the true fans will say club.

I am a supporter who follows Leicester & England, home & away (yes I shall be going to the euro's) but Leicester is always my number one priority. I am very patriotic and proud to

be English, but Leicester is my team. We have so many bad days, but when those good days happen, god it makes me so proud to be a Leicester fan. Relegations, sacking managers,

crap players & administration, doesn't half make the league cup final wins, play-off wins, league one title winners & a great away win this year at Norwich in the cup, even better.

These things are small achievements to the 'bigger clubs' but mean the world to me.

The disapointment we get being a Leicester fan does set me in good stead when it comes to following England, I am used to things 'going tits-up'...

That was the arguement I was saying to them. that buzz / feeling of that day I just cant ever see being matched by any England game.

Club. I support England and want them to do well, their my country. However, and I know this sounds weird, Leicester is my priority, purely because I feel a more personal connection to LCFC than England.

That said...LCFC and England through and through.

Tough one, but being away from England and the fact that the whole world actually cares about the world cup (as opposed to 98% of people having barely even heard of Ly sester city) means I would take a world cup win ahead of promotion...damn, as i type that, im now not so sure.

 cant i have both?

Why does that sound weird?

When Leicester lost in the play-offs to Cardiff I was absolutely gutted. When England get knocked out on penalties I think 'damn', then I change channels and that's that!

Plenty of English people feel the same, not sure it's the same in any other country. That's probably down to the fact that every single person in the UK has a local 'big' club, in the smaller nations you'd be supporting the equivalent of Oadby Town. When the big tournaments do come round, these supporters are obviously going to be more interested.

It used to be Country, but I've grown sick of the dissapointment from underachieving players who don't seem to give a shit.

I'd say now it's both, but club might edge it.

Those of us old enough to remember 1966 will know what a great feeling it is to win the World Cup, enhanced by the fact that one of our own was a star of the team. One of our first home matches in the following season was against West Ham, and it was an unreal situation seeing 4 world cup winners - Gordon Banks, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters - introduced to the crowd at Filbert Street before the match.

So try to imagine the England team parading around Trafalgar Square with a Leicester player holding up the World Cup. I can't for the moment work out which one it would be.

Leicester or England  ?

Club. Always. I would rather Leicester be successful and feel like we had something to do with it rather than England and have bugger all to do with it.

This is pretty much me too, euro 96, the whole country was behind the team, it was a great atmosphere and it really felt like it mattered, since then though, it has never been the same, maybe it is hearing the tired re-working of 3 lions every tournament, or just the feelings of frustration, but since 96, I have not felt proud of the English national team, 1998 was marred by Beckham, 2000 we were awful even if we did beat Germany. The managerial merry-go-round was getting ridiculous at that point, and then came Sven.

Sven brough stability and security, safe in the knowledge that we would always qualify and never beat anybody better than us, and the passion started to ebb, follow that up with the Wally with the Brolly and then Crapello, I would still get excited by the tournaments, but our inevitable exit was all too predictable and not worth getting upset over.

I don't think Woy is the man to take us forward, but to be honest I don't think Redknapp would have been either, I don't know who could though, there are no great english managers at the moment, or at least not any that are actually winning anything and that is what you need, a winner. Woy has won fvck all and Redknapp has hardly done much better and his Spurs team seem to be bottlers.

At least Woy has international experience and will know how to handle an international tournamet scenario.

So it is club for me, but I'm still going to Poland this Summer, we bought tickets before the draw, we could have got an England game, but ended up with Spain Croatia, and I'm kinda glad.

Exactly the same, I can't stand half the England team which can make it hard to even want them to win at times.

Club.

England winning the World Cup for me would come ahead of anything but thats probably because I don't have any connections with Leicester apart from supporting them also there is no local professional football teams around here for everyone to unite and support

Theres always something special when supporting England in the Euros or the World Cup. All fans from clubs around the country come together to unite even if they're clubs are bitter rivals against each other. The country comes to a stand still for 90 mins to support the three lions but nothing could beat England winning the World Cup.

I'd rather be singing 10 German Bombers than We Love You.

The eternal optimism that surrounds the country in the weeks before a major tournament is infectious, the fact this happens once every 2 years at best only adds to it...

Saying that being at Wembley for the play off/league cup finals were probably some if the finest days of my life especially as the old man was here to share them...

Screw you lot I'm not picking!
