Parafox Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 In a few weeks time it will be here. All the hype that's currently going on is now getting TEDIOUS. I'm sure I will watch some of the higher profile events but generally I couldn't care a hoot about it mainly because it's becoming a bit farcical with additional non-traditional sports being added to the events. Which sports should or shouldn't be included? I don't agree that football is an "olympic" sport, neither is tennis or ping-pong or (and I'm waiting for the backlash here) womens/mens beach volleyball. To me, it should consist of field sports, gymnastics, weightlifting, pool events, to name some... What do you lot think?
Matt Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I have never been bothered about the Olympics, I still not that bothered about the Olympics, but I will take abit of interest this time and I hope to get to one of the football games - Just to say I saw something of the Olympics. If i'm honest I expected the hype to be alot worse, I thought from the moment it was announced we had got the Olympics we'd hear none stop about it, we have but no-where near as much as I expected, i've either missed all the hype and not noticed it or it genuinely hasn't been that bad.
davieG Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Not as interested as I used to be, I think there should be no team events at all and the emphasis should be on individual endeavour and achievement. It also way too commercial and is now sought as a potential money earner and kudos generator for the host nation. I'd like to see, if one exists a Greek Island set up as a permanent Olympic Venue.
HEGGSY Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I'll watch the 100m and the football. That's all that interests me.
The Doctor Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I doubt I could care less about it. Like Matt I thought the hype would be a lot more than it has been though.

Radio 5 keep banging on about it... now the BBC are pushing it on TV, nearly all the TV ads have an "olympic" theme, it's the same with poster advertising. It's long been a topic on the news for some reason or another (mostly about the shit way the ticket allocation was handled) Along with "Euro-hype" it's all a bit wearying.
MooseBreath Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I don't know what's more tedious, the hype or the people complaining about the hype. See also the jubilee. If you don't like it, ignore it, it's not that hard. To be honest I've barely seen any hype. Maybe if you stop exposing yourself to the hype it won't bother you so much. Other than that, yes I am a little interested. I am mostly looking forward to seeing what we make of the opening ceremony, and beyond that I hope we deliver a flawless games which does its job of inspiring youngsters and entertaining those who are into the events themselves. I think it's great to have such an iconic global cultural event being hosted on our own soil, and I hope we can take positives from it rather than whinging about the cost or whatever.

Yes, very noble, but any large sporting event can have that effect
MooseBreath Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Yes, very noble, but any large sporting event can have that effect I know, and I'd take a major football tournament over the Olympics every day, but we haven't got any major football tournaments and the Olympics is better than nothing. What's to gain by searching for negatives?
Zingari Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 i love the athletics especially middle distance and the 4 x 400 relays , but most of the rest is of little interest . i still think there are too many medals given to swimmers etc
Parafox Posted 5 June 2012 Author Posted 5 June 2012 i still think there are too many medals given to swimmers etc Are you worried they might drown?
AoWW Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 So I'm the only one who's looking forward to it, then? :ldn2012:
acooling08 Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 May watch a few of the biggest events or events that a Brit has a chance of getting Gold in, but generally I'm not that interested.
pSinatra Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I'm looking forward to it.......as I do any Olympics. There will be plenty of events that will be of little interest to me, but plenty that will be. I am a little anxious as to how the opening ceremony turns out

Zingari Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Are you worried they might drown? no doubt you'd be rushing in there to give the ladies mouth to mouth
Leicester Rule! Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Should be kept to the main athletics/swimming etc events. Football, Tennis and a load of other shit that is in it should be disposed of.
Fox92 Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 No, I'm not interested. And all the media building it up, overrating it, has bored me. Then again, I suppose it's a big thing for people that like it, especially with it being in this Country. I'm looking forward to European Championships more, obviously.
Parafox Posted 5 June 2012 Author Posted 5 June 2012 no doubt you'd be rushing in there to give the ladies mouth to mouth Not underwater, old boy. Although I might proffer a "breathing tube"
Father Ted Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Couldn't give two shits. Euros and Wimbledon are way more important.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Huge event, the athletes who compete give up a lot to make it there, looking forward to it more than the euros.
Daggers Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Not as interested as I used to be, I think there should be no team events at all and the emphasis should be on individual endeavour and achievement. If they were all doing it in the nip then I'd flicker an interest - otherwise I'm just waiting for the stories of bribes, ineptitude and losses to hit Private Eye.
Rincewind Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Will watch some. Not bothered about events like synchronize swimming volleyball, bowls horse jumping curling or even boxing. I mainly like the field and running events. Did you know that things like embroidery used to be Olympic events?
