lcfcsnow Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 We paid more for Wes Morgan who was out of contract than what we've just got for Bamba, an Ivory Coast international brilliant business Pearson.
whoareyaaa Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 if we have sold him for 750k then its a not a great deal could have got 1.2m at least.
Fox You Forest Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 We paid more for Wes Morgan who was out of contract than what we've just got for Bamba, an Ivory Coast international brilliant business Pearson. Does it not get boring looking for a negative in everything?
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 We paid more for Wes Morgan who was out of contract than what we've just got for Bamba, an Ivory Coast international brilliant business Pearson. Wow you are negative! I assume this is as much about two things as anything else.... Wages... For City to reduce them Sol.... Who was most likely very happy to be leaving us to go and play Champs league football. Who knows, possibly Sol wanted the move himself?
Babylon Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 One of the most infuriating players, from sublime to the ridiculous in seconds.
Jace Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Sol is to Pearson what Jack Hobbs was to Sven, at least we made a tidy profit on the sale good luck Sol!

Good job Morgan can actually defend then hey. if we have sold him for 750k then its a not a great deal could have got 1.2m at least. What if nobody is willing to pay £1.2m?
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 One of the most infuriating players, from sublime to the ridiculous in seconds. An accusation one could hurl at more than one player in the 'Sven Revolution'...
m00nie Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 No doubt. I think he could have become a Pearson sort of player, but i guess this FFP thing combined with the fact his wages would have been higher than average mean it's fairly comprehendable why Pearson let him go for that sort of fee. We can use the fee and his wages to bring in a suitable 'Championship' defender or put it towards a player of slightly higher calibre; say Chester. Either way, it's not the worst thing selling Bamba. His ridiculous Cruyff turns and goal against City will be memories for a while, but the Pearson regime continues. if the court article was correct ( and i see no reason it shouldndt be ) then 3k a week was not that high wage... we still need to replace him and so need to pay a new defender a wage also...
hackneyfox Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 So what salary do people think he was on? What salary do you think he started on? I'm interested as people keep going on about Mills & Beckford being on 40k etc.
lcfcsnow Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Sol was the only player who could make things happen at times. I'd also rather see him in midfield than Wellens or King on last seasons form. We still seem nowhere nearer to signing a creative player who offers something different, not even a rumour in sight. It just means we're going to fail to break teams down or score enough goals again. And if Pearsons planning on wasting a month chasing his old crew at Hull who wont sell and also failed to score enough goals anyway then he needs to be shown the exit door now. I may be negative but I don't want to see another season wasted.

Marshall? signing a playmaker would be nice but they cost big bucks in this division, a winger who can attack the full back and get a decent delivery in would be better option I don't think I can bear seeing Dyer or Gally on the wing. With regards to central midfield that creativity can come to the reckoning if we sign a defensive midfielder, Drinkwater and Danns could fufill that role if partnered with someone like Trotter who would do the simple job of breaking up play to full effect.
lcfcsnow Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 If we're serious about promotion we need an Adam Lallana type figure, all of our current midfielders are too similar. I'm having to pin all my hopes on Matty James at the moment.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Sol was the only player who could make things happen at times. I'd also rather see him in midfield than Wellens or King on last seasons form. Did you actually watch him when he was in the middle, how many times he just gave the ball away!! We still seem nowhere nearer to signing a creative player who offers something different, not even a rumour in sight. You mean like James and Vardy?
MC Prussian Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 All the best at Trabzon, Sol. What you lacked in consistency, you surely more than made up with character. And that's why you had to leave. You don't fit the system, but you'll make your way in Turkey, no doubt about that - it's more the kind of league and a type of football you prosper in/profit from. Oh, and could you tell Didier Zokora that he's fvcking ace (for that hit on Emre)?
Guest MattP Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Excellent business making a profit on a defender who can't defend.
Happy Fox Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 No doubt he will shine their and go to a Prem Club or La Liga, he is a talented defender make no mistake about that `but he isn't cut out for the championship style of defending.
Guy Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 I have mixed emotions on this deal. Many City fans (of the Manc and Foxes variety) - and lots of neutrals - remember his first touch ever of the ball for us was beating Joe Hart and putting us 1-0 ahead v the eventual FA Cup winners of the 2011 competition. After that epic moment he then went on to have an excellent half season in 2010-11 for us under Sven. It was he who obviosuly rated Bamba and got him for an absolute steal from Hibs (as is anybody travelling down across the Scottish border these days it seems!). His performances became more erratic last season though - showing flashes of brilliance and vulnerability/liability in equal measure! However his consistency from his first season with us under Sven had evaporated for whatever reason during Sven's latter tenure then Pearson's second tenure. Pearson could only act on what he saw I guess and so cashed in. Also it isn't quite such a big loss when you've lost a player who is away for x amount of weeks in January-February in the African Cup anyway! Farewell Sol, you were pretty good overall in the Championship and in the FA Cup 3rd round 18 months ago - but you were no worldbeater!
Bettsj2 Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 He scored with his first touch and on occasion, out skilled some average Championship players. Aside from this, he was a bag, actually no, a sack of shit and It is unbelievable that some people are suggesting a £1.5m loss on Mills is a good deal but a £500k profit on Bamba isn't. Players are worth what people will pay for them. Saying, 'we could have got loads more' is based on too many games on Champ Manager and too many boogies at the fantasy disco. Take a dump into a bag, go to Cash Converters and see how much they'll give you for it. If you get anything then its less of a miracle than us making a profit on that giant ****.
hbkkids Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Miss you sol. Going to be weird not seeing his crazy runs ever agin
Fox92 Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Miss you sol. Going to be weird not seeing his crazy runs ever agin * Fantastic
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Have to say i am a little disappointed we've sold him but i trust NP 100% and i feel more comfortable with his squad decisions than I did with Sven's
absolutelegend Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Shocking decision. Very unhappy about this. Anybody that tells me that SSL, Mills or Morgan are better players that Sol are from a different planet. Not only our best defender, but also prob the most talented player in our squad.

Have to say i agree to a point. I like Morgan, think he'll be good next season. People on here rave about SSL when he's actually very average
ealingfox Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 The fact nobody agrees on who the best defender (particularly CB) at the club (excluding Konchesky who most people will agree deserves credit for his seasons work) is and was during last season, and each calls the opinions of others uneducated or stupid only proves that very few people on here actually understand what makes a good defender, and how a good defender plays.
