Dan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 Tutoring is much more simple than you give it credit for. The technical and physical stats of a tutor are irrelevant. Even most of the mental stats mean **** all. A tutee won't pick up bravery, composure or creativity from a tutor - for example - and he certainly won't pick up finishing or passing, etc. The one, key attribute you'll improve from tutoring is determination. Tutoring shapes personality and not much else. If a mentor has less determination than the student then never, ever do it. Rule of thumb, the more determination and work rate a player has, the more his stats improve. Tutoring also has an effect on professionalism (which also helps training), ambition and possibly consistency though the last one I'm not 100% on. In my experience, when a young player is happy, getting first team football and has a good tutor improving his determination, that's when he has massive improvements in his stats across the board. Remember that game time, form and morale all contribute to whether a players stats go up. I think I've cocked up then as Huntelaar's determination is only about 12. However Maupay's stats have been soaring I've noticed.
Dan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 Just as a bit of an experiment seeing as it's apparently a personality thing rather than technical, I have got... tutoring... This should be interesting.
LCFC FOX Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 Call me stupid but how fast does tutoring increase the stats?
Dan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 Call me stupid but how fast does tutoring increase the stats? I read somewhere over the period of tutoring (with a good tutor) it increases their attributes seven times as quickly as it would without it, it's something silly along those lines so it's a no-brainer. No idea what's gotten into my Schalke side, just beating everyone, mainly tight wins but it's terrific.

Dan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 How do you know who's a good tutor? Read what Finners has put to me in the last couple of pages.
Finnegan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 Okay, firstly, there's no need to experiment and there's no "allegedly" here. The technical ability of a tutor is completely irrelevant, his personality - and the similarity of personality with the pupil - is all that matters. That and, as stated, preferred moves. Thomas Muller, for example, is hugely underrated on Football Manager and has been for a number of years, technically at least. His crossing, passing, finishing and dribbling are all rather harsh. He does, however, have phenomenal mental stats and some excellent preferred moves (places shots, moves in to channels, gets forward whenever possible, etc.) These preferred moves and his 18 determination make him a fantastic tutor. The actual rate of acceleration for improvement of stats under tutelage is not something I've read. Seven times faster seems a little bit overboard but it certainly does appear the case that young players who are being successfully tutored do see massive improvement in their stats during the period of their tutelage. That said, young players given ample exposure to first team football hugely improve in leaps and bounds anyway and that will ALWAYS be the biggest boost to their development. General rule of thumb, determination is the most important stat for tutoring but don't put a determination 10 student with a determination 18 tutor unless their personalities are otherwise perfectly synced (both hard working, highly ambitious and the youngster already actively looks up to the tutor.) Don't have an inconsistent player or a serial bottler tutor your youngsters, I believe they're personality traits that rub off. Anyone who's a model professional with a tidy determination is a spot on tutor.
Finnegan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 Oh as for Neal Maupay, I've got a funny feeling he's one of a number of players on the game with a large potential but entirely randomly generated stats. There are reports of him turning out sickeningly good but also people baffled by the hype. I've, personally, never bothered but I might try him and see. I know he's free (compo) at the start of the original database.
Dan Posted 21 June 2013 Posted 21 June 2013 He's probably the second best striker in the entire squad and he's 16. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't turn into a star for me.
Dan Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 Faltered a bit in the league but I've got to the Europa League final. Drew Gladbach in the quarters and won 2-1 at home & 0-2 away, eased through it. Drew Galatasaray in the Semis and we crumbled, 3 down after half an hour at their place, I thought I was out. Pushed my full backs to attacking wing backs, my wingers to inside forwards and went attacking, two late goals saw us take a 3-2 back to our place which I actually liked a lot - meant a 1-0 would put us in the final, and it has done, Huntelaar with an 84th minute header. We'll play Zenit in the final although sadly I think they'll murder us.
Fox92 Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 How do people deal with the compensation situation on here? I'm talking about when, the only way you can get rid of a player is by paying part of his wages until it runs out? I've transfer listed Shane Duffy. He is one 65k a week (previous manager was nuts), I accepted two bids for him but the only way he will leave is if 'Leeds pay him 20k a week until his contract expires' (that's in one year anyway)... I was planning to release him when his contract runs out anyway.
LCFC FOX Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 You either pay him for the remainder of his contract or keep him. You will still get him off the wage bill a little. Its a same situation with Beckford, Danns, SSL ect at the minute Okay, firstly, there's no need to experiment and there's no "allegedly" here. Finnegan Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 Position only matters up to the point you have tutelage accepted. You'll find that if there isn't a big enough similarity in position between two players then they won't be available at all. You might find you've got a player who's "competent" in an over-lapping position who can tutor a player who has likewise, though, even if one's - say - DC/DMC and the other is an AMRC because they can both play a little bit of CM. As long as they're an actual option to tutor though, that's close enough. I've had great success with Kara Mbodj and Andile Jali tutoring some of my more attacking players despite being best at DMC or CB.

If you've offered a player out for nothing and you only get bids from certain sides, then you're probably not going to get a better deal. Just consider it £45k a week saved until his deal runs out and then another £20k a week off when it expires.
NewburyFox Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 Finished our first season in Ligue 1 in 14th place, very happy with that. We had a spell where we won 6 on the trot in February/March time which ruled out any possibility of relegation. Most of my players were able to make the step up, must admit its nice to have such a good academy. Now for the summer, where we really need to buy a LB, RB and maybe a striker and centre midfielder. Unfortunately we're going to have to whack the wage bill up again by like 10-20k, but we've got the TV money to supply that.

Dan Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 Trying hard to get Strootman but PSV want £18mil. Fvck sake.
Finnegan Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 Trying hard to get Strootman but PSV want £18mil. Fvck sake. He's a bit average, tbh. Hiljemark, Jali or Adryan will do the DLP role far cheaper until you find yourself a worldy of a regen. Have you tried Ander Herrera or Andrea Poli?
Bugg Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 Just about to start my 3rd season as Leicester, qualified for the Europa League as I won the FA Cup. Managed to sign Andrea Poli (£8m rising to £12m), Stefan De Vrij, Diego Polenta, Vincent Aboubakar and Mattia Perin (All on free transfers) so far. Got another £15m to spend with £75k per week being freed due to Nugent, Konchesky and Whitbread's contracts expiring so should have a bit of room to manoeuvre for additional signings. Mattia Destro, after being absolutely shocking for the first half of the season hit a bit of form in the second half, scoring 14, so I'm hoping that he can continue his form next season (especially since I've sorted his PPMs out which should hopefully get him scoring more).
Bugg Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 To be fair, Destro is quality. Just injury prone. He hasn't had any injury problems for me so far (famous last words), he just had the incredible ability of messing up almost every single one on one he had
Finnegan Posted 22 June 2013 Posted 22 June 2013 I don't know if it's the tactics I'm playing or they've just fudged the AI in this one (I'm getting increasingly unhappy with some of the AI on the match engine, if one more of my players runs in to the back of or shoots / passes straight at the back of one of my other players who's running in front of him I'm going to hit the roof) but I don't find myself with many "true" one on ones and when I do the forward tends to like going wide anyway? It's really odd. Suffice to say, it leads to a bad conversion rate.
