BlueSi13 Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 That pretty much sums up Ronaldo tonight, wants to take the fifth to grab the glory of it rather than take one earlier and get it out the way for his team. Glad the Spanish won, poor tonight but still the best side to watch in the World on form. They have never been entertaining to watch in the slightest in my opinion. Going for the 1-0 by boring the opposition and crowd to death has never made for a good spectacle.

Mark_w Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 The upside of course is that Ronaldo is a smug twat and got everything he deserved.
Tom17LCFC Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Desperately hope Germany beat Italy. Can you imagine a Spain Italy final. It'd be a million times more boring than the first game between them, both sides sitting back doing fvck all. Can't believe I'm actually supporting the Germans.
Jimothy Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Did it really matter where Ronaldo stepped up in the pecking order to take his penalty? I guarantee, if he had stepped up earlier and Alves had gone last, Shearer and co would have been up in arms about sending a centre-back up for the crucial last penalty and you should have someone like Ronaldo on that one. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Finnegan Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Ronaldo bottles it. Del Bosque still on another planet but I think, despite his mad selections, Spain made much more of a game of it today than they have so far. Some good football, really. The critics will still harp on and eye roll about boring football but truthfully I thought they were pretty good and definitely deserved it on the night.
Super_horns Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Portugal did well tonight...till the shoot-out. Spain looked off-key with the passing as Portugal put them under a lot of pressure.

Completely agree, would look far better with Llorente up top imo.
Captain... Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 I think a lot of the reactions on here and in the commentary box, pretty much sum up why we are in the second tier of international football and going backwards.
Super_horns Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Completely agree, would look far better with Llorente up top imo. Has he even come on in a game? Was doing well for Athletic Bilbao despite a tough end to the season.
Tielemans63 Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 Bruno Alves. Non-nonsense defender, good in the air, hoofs it aimlessly whenever he gets the ball, can't take penalties. He must have English Grandparents.
Fox92 Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 To be fair, I was a bit disappointed in Ronaldo. Regardless of whether he is their 'best player' or not, he has got to be one of their better penalty takers (at least in the top five). As Captain, I was under the impression he was going to take the fourth, which Alves missed. Alves didn't look confident, and he would have been last for me as soon as he went for the third, looked lost. Although I wanted Portugal to win, Spain probably deserved it more. But Portugal can be proud of the quater finals, I personally think they overachieved. I thought they wouldn't get out of the groups. I also thought, still think, there biggest chance to win trophies, especially the European Championships, was when Rui Costa, Figo, Sousa, Deco, Gomes, Pauleta etc all played.... Bruno Alves. Non-nonsense defender, good in the air, hoofs it aimlessly whenever he gets the ball, can't take penalties. He must have English Grandparents. Good one.
shen Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 Utterly boring game this one. In complete contrast to Italy - England which was full of goal mouth action. But I see the usual suspects are taking it out on Spain, when Portugal were quite a lot worse!! No, the Portuguese did well just 'nullifying' the Spaniards and receive praise for that while the Spaniards are butchered for not entertaining the masses? Some of you have serious chips on your shoulders. At least Spain tried to win the game in ET while it seemed painfully obvious that Portugal wanted penalties as soon as the game started. They might have clinched it in the end on the break if Ronaldo wasn't back to his utter shit performances of the first two games. Don't get me wrong, I thought Spain were pretty poor themselves with poor first touches and misplaced passes, but that doesn't make Portugal's performance better at all. Remove those anti-Spain (or should I say anti-Barcelona for those that don't recognise the Real Madrid players in the same team) glasses and be just slightly objective...
