Kyle_Le_Don Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Just wondered what peoples thoughts on AVB becoming Tottehams new manger are? For some reason I feel quite happy for him to get another shot at it in the premiership. Hopefully time will be the key for him.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 I hope he gets more time at Spurs than he did at Chelsea.
Petchy Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 It'll be interesting to see what AVB is truly capable of when he's not held back by the owner wanting to keep the 'old guard' in place...Something isn't right at Chelsea, I don't think any Manager is truly 'a manager' there.
bmt Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Title in two years. What Petchy said about Chelsea too. If you play ball with the players you'll do well and if you don't (eg AVBs 'project'), you wont.
Tielemans63 Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 He didn't get the chance to show how good he is at Chelsea - I'm sure he'll get that opportunity at Spurs so it'll be interesting to see how successful he is. Brave move by Spurs IMHO.
MrFox781 Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Wish him all the best, really felt for him when he got sacked by chelsea. Good luck AVB,
21st Century Fox Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 If he's able to bring in Moutinho, that'll be an achievement in itself.
Libertine Dream Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 He'll do well, I imagine Spurs is the perfect job for him
Tielemans63 Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 If he's able to bring in Moutinho, that'll be an achievement in itself. Moutinho and Modric in midfield - tasty.
Vacamion Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 Imagine what Spurs fans will be saying if they are mid-table at Christmas. I fear for him.
ousefox Posted 3 July 2012 Posted 3 July 2012 They won't get top 4 this season. Would put money on them not getting top 6 too.
Mack Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 First credit to the man for having the bottle to stick his neck on the line again. But I fear he will only find it to be a task too far. They overachieved under Redknapp and the board and fans have expectations beyond sensible reason. Two months in when they are mid table you can hear the whining from fans already. I only hope the board have the back bone to give the guy a full season to prove himself and create a team.
Jon the Hat Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 It'll be interesting to see what AVB is truly capable of when he's not held back by the owner wanting to keep the 'old guard' in place...Something isn't right at Chelsea, I don't think any Manager is truly 'a manager' there. Nah, that is not the case. AVB tried to move too quickly to sideline the likes of Terry, Lampard and Drogba before he had the players to replace them, and without actually moving them on to other clubs. Doomed to failure.
Fox92 Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 They have overachived under Redknapp, and now everybody connected to Spurs seems to want Champions Football at the Lane again. Pressure is on, but he isn't a bad manager, as proved at Porto. Tough start for him though, starting with Newcastle away.
breadandcheese Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Disagree. Spurs did not over-achieve with Redknapp. Whilst their squad is weak, their first XI last season was on a par, if not better than Arsenal's. So they finished where they should. Spurs achieved what they should. A team challenging for top four.
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 4 July 2012 Author Posted 4 July 2012 I think Spurs have got a well established team and a few more Top quality signings they could be a force to be reckoned with. Like previous posters have said if they get moutinho and somehow Keep hold of Modric... Who knows. Plus they haven't got too many old guards so he shouldn't have to kick anyone out asap! Good luck to him
purpleronnie Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 I can't see spurs finishing in the top 4 next season.
foxfanazer Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Good luck to him, seems a good tactician just not sure how much presence he has in the dressing room. Then again it takes a string character like mourinho to command respect at Chelsea
Mack Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Disagree. Spurs did not over-achieve with Redknapp. Whilst their squad is weak, their first XI last season was on a par, if not better than Arsenal's. So they finished where they should. Spurs achieved what they should. A team challenging for top four. If you only needed 11 high quality players to achieve a top 4 premier league place then they would all be at it. The nature of the amount of games we play and the lack of a winter break makes our league a squad game. Spurs have nowhere near the squad of the teams at the sharp end of the premier league. They have overachieved for several seasons under Redknapp, and now the arrogance of Levy may well come home to roost.
Corky Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 It's a good appointment. He had a bad time at Chelsea, but before that he was very impressive, both domestically and in Europe (Spurs will take the Europa League seriously this year, which will please the fans). He will have learnt from the experience at Chelsea and will be back with a point to prove.
AyewJoking Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Another contender for first Premiership boss to be sacked this season.
