Guingamp forward Anthony Knockaert has again emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle United but they may face competition from French title chasers Montpellier.

Twenty-year-old Knockaert has been impressive in Ligue 2 this season and looks set to move on in the summer.

United were liked with Knockaert back in January with the player saying he would be “flattered†to join Newcastle:

“They are in touch with my agent.â€

“Now, I take care of my own work and nothing else. My agent does not put all that in my mind so I can continue to work in the best way.â€

“Yes, sure it’s flattering. But I will not give up until one day I am at the highest level. But now I work for the team.â€

Knockaert has been capped by the France Under-20 side and is considered a hot prospect in his homeland and that has attracted interest from Ligue 1′s big guns Montpellier who look set to battle United for the youngster’s signature.

French football website French Football Weekly included Knockaert in their Le 50 countdown of the best young players in France describing the player as:

“His attributes are more or less what you would expect of a modern winger, but this guy has a knack of scoring goals.â€

“He is a regular in French youth teams and is currently in the U-20 squad.â€

“In short, he is a hot prospect for the future with loads of pace and trickery up his sleeve, which could help him in a league like the English Premier League.â€
