Just a few observations from today.

Thought Beckford looked a completely different player too last season. He made a lot of runs in behind, actually won some headers and put the Sunderland defence under pressure. Also him and Vardy seemed to work well together often linking up well.

Drinkwater and James seemed to strike a good partnership in CM. Drinky's ball retention and tackling was superb.

Morgan was flawless in defence. Seemed really intelligent in his positioning, played the ball out well and put in a proper captains performance.

On the other hand Waghorn, dyer and King disappointed.

Sunderland were boring.

Dyer also seems to have developed an unhealthy obsession with lifting up his shirt all the time.

People are talking about us beating a Premiership club but Sunderland didn't look any better than the likes of Barnsley from the evidence of 45 minutes,

in fact they were as forgettable a side as I've seen down here, a view that seems to have been more than confirmed by their own disgruntled fans who were no doubt cheesed off to witness their club's fourth defeat in pre-season friendlies

If you somehow thought we did well against a good side then I'm pleased for you. To me it was little more than the a training run-out.

The main point of today was, for players to impress and get a good work out before the Championship season next Saturday.

Solid. Schmeichel was reliable, I thought not a single player who was in defence today had a bad game. Morgan was my MOTM again, he's looked absolutely solid every time I've seen him this summer. Liam Moore - take a chance on the lad. For me he should start there v Posh, he looked solid at centre half, composed on the ball and got the job done, good in the tackle too. Parkes was a bit rash with his passing but got the goal so fair play. Konchesky impressed as usual, Schlupp actually had a good game at left back I thought and De Laet was impressive too, he seems a positive player.

Improved again, Drinkwater had a very good game, he's gonna have a big part for us this year if he keeps up his form like this, he seemed to dip at the end of last year but this is far better. James impressed me too, a pretty solid player and he's actually fairly similar to Drinkwater, both of them like a tackle and can pick a pass, I'd have nothing against either of them starting v Posh in a 4-4-2. King wasn't as bad as people say either, a couple of mistakes early on and whilst I wouldn't say he caught the eye, he was nowhere near as bad as some are saying and I can't help but feel they're basing it on making early mistakes. Now onto the interesting bit, the wingers. To think a year ago we had one at the club, and that was Dyer, who was too quiet again today for me. Marshall started slowly but was everywhere in the end and nearly scored a great goal, impressive display from him. Of course, we move on to our very own FLAIR king. Knockaert is exactly what we've lacked out wide, he's positive, he can defend, he's not scared to try ridiculous things, the lad's got unreal potential, how anyone can say they'd start Dyer over him next week, beyond me. Absolute FLAIR.

Beckford & Vardy were far more dangerous than Nugent & Waghorn. I'm no Beckford fan but he wasn't bad today IMO, he squandered a decent chance through poor decision making and taking too long, on the whole he wasn't bad. Vardy impressed me, he's a hard worker and like Knockaert he's positive and always wants to make something happen, his ball through to Beckford was great play. Nugent on the other hand who I am a fan of was crap and barely touched it, Waghorn didn't look too bad for once.

Solid win against a top flight opposition (although they were poor), not surprising stuff but glad we look a more solid side with potential to excite the crowd.

Give me this side over the one 12 months ago any day of the pissing week.

However, in this instance I'm afraid he comes across as a miserable bloke. Even if he thinks that today's game wasn't important, maybe let us revel in what most people felt was a really well organised, competitive team?

There is a big difference between hope and harsh reality. Yes, it was a friendly, yes Sunderland looked poor but frankly, who cares? After last season we need something to pin our hopes on. That performance today provided it.

Think we were very good today bar about 15/20 minutes of second half. Drinkwater and James looked very good as did Marshall. Think Drinkwater and Marshall joint man of the matches for me. Vardy looks very promising too, just hoping when he went off there was nothing too serious. I reckon bar any injuries, that team that started today's game, deserve to start against Peterborough first game. Knockaert impressed me too and think he will rip a fair few Championship defences to pieces this season.

We beat what was put in front of us and showed signs of promise, especially considering some of the key performers are so young.

You should perhaps go one step further next season and not go at all.

Thought Drinkwater was absolutely fantastic today - brilliant sharp passing, very tenacious too. Isn't afraid to weigh in with a challenge and formed a very solid, hard-working performance with James who grafted excellently and most certainly made a claim for a starting berth. The pair of them compliment each other perfectly, our midfield has such a great balance now in comparison to last season.

Marshall managed to find space and attack Sunderland time after time and had a couple of cracking efforts - him and Knockaert are the most exciting players I've seen at City in some time. The pair of them frustrated Sunderland to the point they lost their discipline and you could tell they loved it. Virtually every fan at the ground today seemed to inch forward in their seats whenever either got the ball and a few yards.

Defence was superb, it's so refreshing to have a captain lead by example after a huge lack of leadership last season - Wes was colossal at the back today. Moore looks ready for Championship level football, surprisingly composed for such a young footballer, be it at right back or centre back. Seems a better bet than Peltier to be quite honest, huge talent.

Vardy again looked sharp, reminds me of Fryatt in how he plays in many respects. Bit more pace, mind. Beckford linked well with him.

The gym has completely ruined Waghorn, King didn't retain the ball as well as he's capable of, and Danns didn't look at the races at all. All points that just take the shine off a very satisfying win today.

All in all this feels like Pearson's side now. The team has a sound balance and we've got so much strength in depth (especially in the middle of the park). Really, really optimistic about this season and I can't wait to support this team.

Creativity, Tenacity,Solid,Flair,Pace,Endeavour ALL on display today in one way or another, yes pre-season game, however what's not to like?

We were really sharp in the first half, pressed Sunderland and spread the ball about nicely. Drinkwater was excellent, snapping into tackles and using the ball well, especially out towards the left. James complemented him and Marshall looked his usual sharp self.

The partnership of Beckford and Vardy looked quite promising, Vardy was quick and Beckford flicked it on several times. The defence was very solid throughout with De Laet and Konchesky getting forward and supporting the wingers.

Second half the tempo dropped early on, but we kept on in as Knockaert started to show what he was about- tricky, skilful and inventive. Marshall on the left was always a threat- hopefully the crap that Pearson doesn't want flair in the side can be knocked on the head.

King and Danns didn't link together well, Nugent and Waghorn weren't as sharp as the first half pairing, though Parkes came on and slotted in whilst Schlupp seemed comfortable at left-back.

All-in-all an encouraging display, the team looked committed and tried to play football through the midfield, and a clean sheet will help (along with another outstanding save from Kasper).
