That's nothing to be proud of.

So you wouldn't swap what Stoke have achieved over the last 5 seasons for what we've achieved - I'd be very proud if we could replicate Stoke's success.

No, I wouldn't swap anything for the Stoke/Pulis brand of football.

Really? did you watch any of our football under MON? We were known for our fighting spirit and quality of set pieces and not playing pretty football. Funny how that coincided with the most successful period in our history....

Yes I was there throughout the whole MON era and whilst the football wasn't always enjoyable it was still far better than anything Stoke serve up.

There's only so much poor football one can take, I think 2003-2008 has scarred me for life. :P

So you would rather lose 5 - 4 and be entertained every game and get relegated, rather than win 1 - 0 in a somewhat dull encounter, yet be Champions?

Oh and by the way I was only comparing our back 4 to Stoke - I think there is far more flair in midfield and up front.

Not this old chestnut again.

I'll never understand someone who would rather watch us flounder around the lower leagues for 5 years, than play 5 years premiership football and batter someone 5-0 in the FA cup semi to boot.

When have we ever been entertained every game and got relegated? Our most recent relegation saw us have one of the best goals against and worst goals for.

I've no problem at all with 1-0 wins so long as we're actually trying to score which hasnt always been the case pre 2008/09.

we've moved on now but the Stoke comparison made me realise I dont ever want to return to that.

You don't want to be a successful as Stoke? I've been entertained for the last 2 seasons - yet with mid table mediocracy. If promotion is via dull football I'll take that.

It's weird. Stoke play very direct and predictable football. Their defence is horrible to break down, they make chances out of throw ins, they almost score from every other set piece. In some ways they're really quite enjoyable to watch. Supporting such a well drilled team must be nice (if sometimes monotonous).

When I think back to Worthington, Allen, Holloway, Levein, Sousa et al...we were none of the above yet we were so, so, SO boring to watch the vast majority of the time. We didn't play long ball, but we didn't play it on the ground nicely either. We were shit at set pieces. The defence was a shambles. And so on (some generalisation going on here but mostly correct).

I've got to be honest and say i'd love us to be in Stoke's shoes. Another myth is that they're dirty. Stats wise they're really not - although sooner or later their antics in the penalty area will screw them big time.

Well, I doubt very much any team has ever entertained every game regardless of how the season ended up. On top of that we have only ever been relegated from this division once, so it's quite hard to make any sort of generalisation on the matter.

However we have been relegated on several occasions from the top flight and, on some of those occasions, we were noted for our entertaining football. You mention 2003 onwards, but when we went down in 2004 it was with a side that had three different 10+ marksmen and yet conceded a huge number of goals. We won a lot of praise for our attacking play (unless I'm mistaken a Leicester game was voted match of the season too), but a sloppy defence let us down. If you go back further, we were similarly praised when relegated under Jock Wallace and - though it was long before my time - in the Gillies / O'Farrell season in the late '60s.

And if the comparison is restricted to this division, then let's not forget our near-relegation in 1991. A side containing Wright, Russell, Kelly, Mills and credited by many for its purist style of play only stayed up because West Brom couldn't see off Bristol Rovers (I think) on the final day.

On top of that, if you're willing to look beyond Leicester, there are many many examples of sides that have gone down from this league playing attractive football. And many more that could have - but ultimately didn't - go up. We like to focus on the Norwichs, Newcastles and West Broms, but frequently forget that they are outnumbered by good physical sides such as Stoke and, indeed, the Leicester of years past.

Anyone wanting to sample purist football should have witnessed David Pleats reign of terror as City manager ......

Soon after when Brian Little took over with his more industrial type approach , I never recalled anyone ever mentioning purism again

Is all about winning , end of story

lol

I was joking.

Considering some posters make 'reactionary' comments (like mine here), I'd thought that I should make one to see if anyone thinks my comment was 'ott'.

I won't do it again. :P

You seemed serious?

Can someone give an update on this situation?

Had Moore suffered damage, then City's central-defensive options would have stretched to the limit. It has led to reports linking them with a loan bid for Stoke's Danny Higginbotham.

Pearson said: "There is always going to be speculation, especially when there is talk about us getting thin on the ground in certain positions, but there is nothing to talk about.

"We will not necessarily do anything at the moment, but we'll address any situation as it comes along."

Won't come according to this article

LEICESTER City have made an inquiry for Stoke’s out-of-favour defender Danny Higginbotham after hitting a temporary defensive crisis.

But Higginbotham would prefer a more substantial offer than just filling in for a few weeks and then being cast to the sidelines for the rest of the season.

With Liam Moore being fit and St Ledger being ahead of schedule I think Pearson will pull the plug on this one.

That's fair do's - I can sympathise with that.
