Corky Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Ukraine obviously showed up Montenegro for what they really are- an average international side there for the taking. We must beat them at home.
Super_horns Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Having 2 players sent off against them would have helped Ukraine as well - till then it was only 1-0.
Jordan Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Our very own Jermaine Beckford scored for Jamaica. He was two steps offside on a free kick, though Brad Evans, of all players, scored in stoppage time just moments later to give the USA a 2-1 win.
Jimothy Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Just seen the highlights of Ireland's game last night. Robbin Keane making a record 126th cap, and scoring a hat-trick. Talking about living up to the occasion. One thing I found out from watching though is that Wes Hoolohan at 31 was making his competitive debut for Ireland and only his 6th cap. How is that possible? He's been quality for a while and certainly good enough to be getting regular games for a team of Ireland's standard.
Guest shearfox Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Good result for England, like a win to be honest... We have four games left and three are at home we should qualify, if we don't it would be an embarrassment
Bert Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Ukraine winning has opened Englands group wide open, Ukraine have a real chance now to win the group. England have a massive game at Ukraine, the winner of that game should win the group. We've got 3 home games. 9 points from them will see us win the group I think. Ukraine ad Montenegro still have tricky games.
Corky Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Having 2 players sent off against them would have helped Ukraine as well - till then it was only 1-0. I'm sure it did, but we also had them on the back foot for the first half before deciding for some reason to sit back and defend it rather than finish the game off. It's an average group and we should really win it.
MC Prussian Posted 8 June 2013 Posted 8 June 2013 Switzerland has won 1-0 at home against Cyprus today, opening a temporary four-point gap between them and second-place Albania, who have a game in hand. It was a deserved, yet hard-earned win. The winning goal came in extra time, after Switzerland wasted numerous chances over the course of 90 minutes. Why we're still top? It's a poor group and we're only average, albeit the defensive record with only 1 goal conceded in six games speaks for itself.. Hopefully, we can regain some class for the remaining fixtures. Otherwise, I can see us getting tanked in three games should we make it to Brazil in 2014.

We have four games left and three are at home we should qualify, if we don't it would be an embarrassment A draw would have been the best result for us. Ukraine are only 1 point behind us and they have yet to play San Marino (6 easy points.)
Bert Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 A draw would have been the best result for us. Ukraine are only 1 point behind us and they have yet to play San Marino (6 easy points.) We've got 3 to come from Moldova. If we can't beat Poland & Montengro at home we don't deserve to qualify. Don't see any reason why we can't win all 4. Ukraine still have us and Poland to play which won't be easy.
Manwell Pablo Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 We've got 3 home games. 9 points from them will see us win the group I think. Ukraine ad Montenegro still have tricky games. And do you see us getting them? I don't see Poland and Montenegro being push overs!
purpleronnie Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 Plus if the Ukraine beat us at their place it might not matter if we then win our 3 home games. If I had to have a bet I would say Ukraine to win the group, England 2nd.

If I had to have a bet I would say Ukraine to win the group, England 2nd. Indeed, If they beat us their going to be 2 points ahead of us with 2 gimmes against San Marino to come, plus that big win has helped their goal difference out no end, if they score 7-8 in both games against San Marino and we fail to put a decent amount past Moldova they might only need a point against Poland even if we do beat Poland and Montenegro.
Bert Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 And do you see us getting them? I don't see Poland and Montenegro being push overs! Not saying they'll be pushovers but at home we should have more than enough. Ukraine away decides the group, even a draw would be enough there.

You speak the truth however I can remember several occasions down the years when we should have had a not and have been utter shite . I'd be happy with a point there! Shen I can see you in this topic. I'm going to Copenhagen on Friday give me some fun stuff I should do (besides drinking I need no gudiance on that)
Amin Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 Australia lead 1-0 at the break and Jordan don't look like scoring tbh. Edit: Oh dear, Jordan have collapsed.
purpleronnie Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 How does the asian world cup qualifiers work? If the aussies win their group/come 2nd do they qualify?
OzFox Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 How does the asian world cup qualifiers work? If the aussies win their group/come 2nd do they qualify? Yes. First and second qualify Australia lead 1-0 at the break and Jordan don't look like scoring tbh. Edit: Oh dear, Jordan have collapsed. It's the Archie effect
purpleronnie Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 Yes. First and second qualify It's the Archie effect jeez is there any point? just put the aussies and japan through each year.
OzFox Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 jeez is there any point? just put the aussies and japan through each year. It does feel a bit like that sometimes. Not so long ago they'd come through Oceania, beating the likes of American Samoa 31-0, then lose playoffs against decent teams like Argentina, Uruguay and er, Iran Even Lucas Neill scored tonight. His first in 91 games for the Aussies
Amin Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 jeez is there any point? just put the aussies and japan through each year. Tbf, with one game to go, Australia are still not confirmed to finish in 2nd, being only one point ahead of Oman. The smaller teams have made a decent go of it.
VinceNoir Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 Denmark FTDenmark [0 - 4] Armenia It's pretty funny how shit Denmark's team is! Wasn't Simon Kjær the next big thing a few years ago? Ahahahahhahha absolute dogshit. Boring bonus fact: Simon Kjær grew up in the same city as me. When I worked in a record shop, I once sold a CD to him. It was 'Hybrid Theory' by Linkin Park.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Yes. First and second qualify It's the Archie effect I went last night, Archie is clearly the fans favourite down here he was getting a standing ovation even when he was warming up. Favourite part of the night was the Jordanian keeper, the bloke is a nut case and was losing his cool massively which is why they had to sub him off. How does the asian world cup qualifiers work? If the aussies win their group/come 2nd do they qualify? 2 stages. First stage: 4 in a group home and away top 2 progress. We won that group with Oman 2nd, Saudi Arabia and Thailand knocked out. 2 stage is now. 5 teams top 2 go thru and 3rd play home and away against the 3rd from the other group and will play 5th from South America. We moved to Asia as it is a lot easier than a do or die against 5th in South America which is what we used to get being in Oceania. There are some tricky games tho when you only get your squad together 24 hours before the match and then play in oppresive heat in Jordan or Oman. Fingers crossed we win our last match and make our 4th ever WC

Anyone that scores 13 goals in one match deserves a bit of respect I thought Jordan were getting on top until he came on and gave the team a lift. Good atmosphere last night. Seems a bit noisier than matches in Sydney
