Carl the Llama Posted 22 March 2013 Posted 22 March 2013 Bit of a shame you can't qualify really, man-for-man Wales are an improving side who could cause a few sides problems on their day. Surprised Croatia are doing as well as they are in that group, they've been bang average since 2008. Allez les Diables Rouges! Kom op je Rode Duivels!
Corky Posted 22 March 2013 Posted 22 March 2013 Good point for the Irish tonight in Sweden, keeps them right in the hunt for second.
Finnegan Posted 22 March 2013 Posted 22 March 2013 Allez les Diables Rouges! Kom op je Rode Duivels! They were absolutely garbage against us. Granted we were worse but only really through a lack of confidence. Hazard was silent, Dries Mertens was the only real threat and they somehow knicked it. Hugely overhyped side, really.
Guest Bilo Posted 22 March 2013 Posted 22 March 2013 We started the tournament without any confidence but with Coleman at the helm it was always going to be a big ask to get through with Belgium, Croatia and Serbia all in the group. The five one to the Serbs has really killed us. Big finish needed really for our coef points but that's all it's going to be which is a shame because this will likely be Bellers' last hurrah. Desperately need a striker, though. We have done for years. Hell, even as much as I loved him we still really needed one when Earnie was at his best. We've not had what I'd call a true, Premership quality, out and out goal scorer in my adulthood and it's the big difference between this team and a major tournament. It's fair to say Belgium are a hell of a side. I wouldn't fancy England to top a group with Belgium in it considering they have Hazard, Fellaini, Kompany and Lukaku. Get those coef points and a kindish draw for Euro 2014 and I can see Wales qualifying.

Considering their top names are mostly kids, I have big hopes for this team in the coming years.

And obviously a better side than Wales, no doubt. But in the build up to the home game it was golden generation this, Eden Hazard that, and he was absolute guff.
Tielemans63 Posted 22 March 2013 Posted 22 March 2013 Good result for the Irish - it was a team set up to get a point though! Still, keeps us in a decent position in the group. Wish they'd attack a bit more at times though. Trap has his methods and you can't doubt him but it doesn't make for entertaining viewing.
purpleronnie Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Good point for the Irish tonight in Sweden, keeps them right in the hunt for second. brilliant result. USA 1-0 Costa Rica see, the weather is shit over there too.
Alf Bentley Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Good point for the Irish tonight in Sweden, keeps them right in the hunt for second. Hadn't realised they were still so well placed. All their home games are yet to come, apart from Germany, after getting 2 wins and a draw from 3 away games, so a real opportunity if they can pull out the stops at home to Sweden and Austria. Can they attack, though, or just defend? Of course, even 2nd place would only take them to the play-offs, and there could be some tough teams in there: Spain or France, Belgium or Croatia, Portugal (?), England (?!?)...

Guest Bilo Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 That song was absolutely inspired! Right up until the moment they got bent over in every game in Poland.

Alf Bentley Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 I like to see a few newcomers at a World Cup, and 2014 is looking quite promising: - Albania & Iceland nicely positioned in European Group E - Israel in contention in Group F - Bosnia heading for glory in Group G - Montenegro (gulp!) handily placed in Group H - Venezuela in with a chance in S. America - Likewise, Panama in CONCACAF - ...and Uzbekistan in Asia (maybe Qatar, Iraq or Oman, too) - Ethiopia, Zambia, Congo & Benin topping African groups, ahead of the usual suspects... Some will fall by the wayside, no doubt. Good to see some old faves that could be back, too: Colombia (lovely people), Belgium, Hungary... I'm still a big kid at heart...
Jordan Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Great pic. Snow or cocaine? For the latter, I can post a photo from Colombia 5-0 Bolivia (Seriously about Colombia, though: this team is no joke. They're damn good.)
Finnegan Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Looks like Portman Road 2010. Narh mate, you can see the ball.
Super_horns Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Spain and Portugal in the play-offs maybe? Ofcourse we (England) have some work to do ourselves. Good draw for Ireland and Wales are probably a decent goalscorer away from being a decent enough side to compete towards the top of their group.
MC Prussian Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Wasn't at home to watch the game, but a 0-0 against Cyprus? Well, I was talking about our poor scoring record and it's still going strong. Still first in the standings, but the advantage has now pretty much vanished and gone down to only two points.
Happy Fox Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 City could do with a couple of these German players not joking their Under 21's are immense Florian Trinks please
