Ashley Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Mexico vs USA tonight... For me, there are no bigger games, no more important rivalries than this. Watched a cup final between these last year not sure which cup it was but the game was ridiculously fast paced and just constant end to end attacking.
Jordan Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Watched a cup final between these last year not sure which cup it was but the game was ridiculously fast paced and just constant end to end attacking. 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which Mexico won, 4-2. When Mexico are playing with inspiration, they attack with reckless abandon, and get both the ball and two waves of players forward almost instantly. USA would do well not to get into a track meet with Mexico tonight because our defense will probably be slow (with the exception of Beasley if he plays at left back), we won't have Jermaine Jones to spring counterattacks by making tough tackles in the midfield, and because we don't want to be gassed at the end of the game playing in high altitude. Playing in Denver last week may help a little, but there is only so much the team can do to prepare for Estadio Azteca--where the US has only won once, in a friendly last year.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Mexico vs USA tonight... For me, there are no bigger games, no more important rivalries than this. How big is Canada vs USA? Allez les Diables Rouges! Kom op je Rode Duivels! How does it work with Belgium when half the players speak Dutch and half the players speak French? We started the tournament without any confidence but with Coleman at the helm it was always going to be a big ask to get through with Belgium, Croatia and Serbia all in the group. The five one to the Serbs has really killed us. Big finish needed really for our coef points but that's all it's going to be which is a shame because this will likely be Bellers' last hurrah. Desperately need a striker, though. We have done for years. Hell, even as much as I loved him we still really needed one when Earnie was at his best. We've not had what I'd call a true, Premership quality, out and out goal scorer in my adulthood and it's the big difference between this team and a major tournament. Think you can qualify for Euro 2016?
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 It's fair to say Belgium are a hell of a side. I wouldn't fancy England to top a group with Belgium in it considering they have Hazard, Fellaini, Kompany and Lukaku. Get those coef points and a kindish draw for Euro 2014 and I can see Wales qualifying. Belgium are a bit overrated surely. Couldn't even qualify for Euro 2012.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Starting line up is, as I expected: Bellers Hal Robson-Kanu, Bale, J WIlliams King, Ledley Davies, A Williams, Collins, Gunter Myhill So, Kingy starts.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 How does it work with Belgium when half the players speak Dutch and half the players speak French?Think you can qualify for Euro 2016? They most likely all speak Dutch. There is a cultural split in Belgium but it's not definitive. And it depends on the group we get. Given there's more teams in the tournament we should do really. Need to finish top three in this group for coef points though really.
Tielemans63 Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Conor Sammon starting for Ireland - Interesting selection by Trap although not sure it's the right one! Says it all when we still so rely heavily on Robbie Keane. Must win game tonight as it is for England.
StanSP Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 I just really don't understand fans fighting against each other. Mental Montenegrins.
21st Century Fox Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 I'm going for France v Spain tonight it should be pretty decent.
Carl the Llama Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 How does it work with Belgium when half the players speak Dutch and half the players speak French? They most likely all speak Dutch. I'd say they're all pretty likely to speak enough basic French or Flemish to communicate in a match, it does seem that there are more Flanders boys in the national squad so Finners may be right about Flemish being the main language. You couldn't be more wrong about the nature of the national divide though Finners. There's a lot of bad blood between Flanders & Wallonia and it's all very political. I'm not massively clued up on the whole situation myself, but the politicians here have a terrible time simply reaching enough agreement between parties for a Government to form and stay together in the first place. Since I've lived here there's been more time spent without a government than with.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 I'm well aware it's not a benign issue, that's not what I meant to imply. I'm just saying it isn't too distinct countries and there's a big overlap in education. Plus, with languages and literary as good as they are in northern Europe they're probably all English speakers anyway! Back to football, we're having a right go at this on the counter. Bale just missed what would have been goal of the season as we go from our own byline to their eighteen yard box in seconds. Really good to watch, this is infinitely better than the Toshack years. We'll never hold a clean sheet though.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 What the **** are Scotland playing on? It looks like a swamp.
The Doctor Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 So if Scotland don't win tonight then it's already game over for qualification When did we become so unbelievably shit? Not half a decade ago we were finishing just behind the WC winners and runners-up for Euro qualification...

Not sure, but with players like Gary Bannan I'm sure you'll be up there competing again soon
The Doctor Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Not sure, but with players like Gary Bannan I'm sure you'll be up there competing again soon lol Like **** will we. That George Boyd is considered an international player says it all.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Combination of this pitch and this defending it's like watching Highland League football. Seriously Scotland.
Webbo Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 I'm struggling to think of a Scottish player, apart from Darren Fletcher who's ill, who plays for a top premier league side. Unbelievable thinking how many Scots there were in top teams in the past.
The Doctor Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Has Boyd ever heard of crossing, passing, or shooting?
Guest Bilo Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 Definitely the worst Scotland side for years. A shame because I'd love nothing more than seeing more than one British side at a major tournament again. Euro 96 was special.
The Doctor Posted 26 March 2013 Posted 26 March 2013 N.Ireland? Bit harsh on Northern Ireland to think they're anywhere near as shit as us. I'm starting to think that if Scotland gets independence it's passport should come with a health warning - side effects include crushing disappointment, embarrassment & general patheticness. Not to be taken with hope, best prescribed alongside gallows humour.
