Got really excited at an email saying I’ve been selected through the random selection ballot to purchase up to 4 tickets for next years Ryder Cup in New York.

Didn't realise the robbing fvckers were charging over $700 for a day ticket.

No wonder Golf is dying a death for the average fan whether trying to attend or play given the costs

Did the same double take when we looked at “premium packages.” We’re only 2 hours from Bethpage, but would have been willing to stay the night nearby. But these prices…obscene is an understatement.

I’ll look ahead to the PGA Championship at Aronimink in 2026…

Thanks for the heads up about the Aronimink, will look into prices for that closer to the time as I’m determined to attend a tournament around the East Coast area, as I’m over so often work its criminal how little sporting events I’ve attended.

Played Kilworth Springs for the 1st time in 25-30 years and got to say it's a reliable gaff that I will probably play again if I ever want somewhere that's in good condition all year round due to excellent drainage.

Played pretty well considering I'm down to just 4-5 rounds a year these days. Shot 81 but struck the ball very well and was never in danger of anything more than a bogey on a hole. Short game was average.

Three of the next 6 US Opens are either on Long Island (2026 Shinnecock, 2028 Winged Foot) or in the Philadelphia suburbs (2030, Merion). Those course are far enough east on Long Island that it will be a traffic nightmare to get there.

Baltusrol for the 2029 PGA is a good day out, too. Visited the PGA when it was there in 2016. There's a direct train from NYC to the nearby town, and they had a fleet of buses ready to pick you up and take you right to the course, a great day out with plenty of shade and room to spread out. Cost us $110 a person for a 1-day grounds pass at the time.

Great in the winter, like hitting a ball down the M1 in the summer though.

That being said I do enjoy it as a one off.

Hahahaaa yeah I suspected that might be the outcome when it's bone dry.

Shot 94 at Gullane no. 2 this morning. Happy with that number, considering the 20mph winds. Course was in exceptional condition, amazing value for the £50 green fee. Finished the round in 2.5 hours, had the place to ourselves. 30 min drive from Edinburgh, highly recommend.

2.5 hours! Did you run round?!

Played through a pairing on the third hole, and never saw another soul the rest of the round. Almost like nobody else wanted to play in the wind and cold lol

Played it myself, great track. Really enjoyed that area when we went up to Scotland.

Got fortunate enough to be balloted out at the Old Course in October this year just after the Dunhill finished which was a surreal experience.

Two and a half hours for a singles or foursomes in the winter is the norm for Scotland.

Got the Finau one wrong but it appears young Tom McKibbin of NI is set to join Jon Rahm's team at LIV.

Quite surprising seeing as he'd just secured his PGA card, Rory is his mentor, and he was possibly in the mix for a Ryder Cup place later this year.

Take the money now and hope the merger happens later I guess...

I just don't give a **** who's on which tour anymore. Just wake me up when the majors are on.

I think this sentence sums up what about 90% of golf fans are currently thinking, sadly.

Bit cold this morning for my 8.30 tee time.

Greens were as receptive as concrete. I hit at least 3 approach shots that were all over the pin, then they bounced 20 foot in the air and went 30 yards over the back of the green!

The new heated gilet was a genius move by myself though lol

Gary Neville walks among us with his heated gilet!

Glad you got out though, been shut since Thursday at my course due to sheet ice.

My society had booked a friendly game at Sinfin tomorrow morning. Since it's going to  be below freezing the organiser rang to change to a later date and got told they can't rearrange bookings if the course is open. Open course even though it's gonna be frozen ground and greens?!!

He was annoyed and told them to cancel it and they are dickheadedly keeping the £100 deposit he paid. So we won't ever be going back there again! Which I don't mind as it's a shit course IMO any way.

Freezing conditions must be horrible to play in. Especially if the ground and greens are all frozen solid.

9-10C is my limit.

Does anyone use an Apple Watch for golf?

I’ve got one that I’ve never used, and just wondered if anyone uses one for yardages.

I use GolfShot and Hole19 on my phone, but hate getting it out every shot (especially in the winter).

So, any advice? Or am I better buying a Garmin or similar which are better designed for golf?

Cheers.
