There are a number of other posts about (usually) bad driving... What are your experiences? No-one likes being criticised for bad driving, everyone seems to think they are among the top 10 drivers. I include myself in that and in spite of my driving experience, I make mistakes though generally I do acknowlwdge them, but if my wife tells me to slow down or criticises me, I get very annoyed. As an example: once, on the way in to hospital (on blue lights) we were behind a driver who didn't pull over or seem to notice us at all. After a while we got alongside at some traffic lights and looked down to see him with a mobile phone jammed between his ear and his shoulder and a laptop open on the passenger seat. Driving takes concentration, no matter how long you've been doing it.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Get ready for more bad drivers, from March people will be able to take their test in Harborough
pSinatra Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 too much "I'm alright Jack & fuck everyone else!!" .........& that's not just on the roads.
Rincewind Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Still have a provisional license but not had driving lessons for quite a few years so only been a passenger. I remember one instructor saying to me, 'When you pass don't drive like me.' I suppose he meant that when you pass you pick up bad habits because it is not possible to drive strictly to the rules all the time. I gave up because my co-ordination was not good. Changing gears, clutch, looking for traffic left and right, cyclists, pedestrians watch speed dial, talking to passengers if there are any, keeping kids quiet if any in car. Just too much to think about every second. I don't think I could do it now. If I had passed I may have smashed a car up by now through a lapse in concentration. I don't envy drivers of today.
Zingari Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Many drivers seem to think that lanes in urban areas are the same thing as lanes on motorways. No you idiots they are directional lanes and I'm not going to pull over to let you pass !!!
leicesterlad1989 Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Driving back home once and a was going round the roundabout (as you do) at the top of Groby Road, next to the Glenfield Hospital, when a car started to head towards me from the opposite direction, going round the roundabout the wrong way! This was on a Sunday but even I couldn't put this down to "sunday drivers." I think he eventually realised after the continuous papping/beeping of horns that he was doing something wrong and decided to do a three point turn as cars were coming towards him! Honestly couldn't belive my eyes..shocking!

leicesterlad1989 Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Well at least he wasn't far from the hospital or the cemetry Haha, that's true! I didn't annoy me at the time and as I wasn't driving (the ex was), I was p*ssing myself laughing. The more I thought about it, it made me realise I failed 2 bloody driving tests for less than that, how on earth do these idiots get licenses.

Guest Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 considering how badly people drive and their general "**** you" level added to the weapon like dynamics of a car, I find it amazing how few people die on the roads every day compared to what I would expect.
Raj Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 i LOATHE people who dont acknowledge you when you give them way or stop to let them through. They deserve to wither away...
Sparky Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 i LOATHE people who dont acknowledge you when you give them way or stop to let them through. They deserve to wither away... Yeh i too hate this. If they dont give me a thanks or a wave ill give them some stick. One thing i have noticed is when im driving my white van everybody seems to stop and let me through, happy days !
1964FOX Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 The problem is a lot of people don't realise how effective a vehicle is at kiling or seriously injuring a human being. It is a very large mass of metal and should be treated as such and driven safely. Todays 'look after myself' attitude doesn't help as many think they naturally have the right of way because they are important.

leicesterlad1989 Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Its funny because whenever Im in my work van, I am happy because like you say no1 ****s with you but if I'm in my car...I BLOODY HATE WHITE VAN (or any other colour) DRIVERS. Possibly due to one crashing into me, which was not my fault at all...
ithuriel Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 About 6 odd years ago whilst being given a lift home from work after finishing the night shift we were heading past Morrisons going to Saffron lane in rush hour traffic when this Asian lady came driving at the flow of traffic in the wrong direction, the look of horror on her face was amazing as was her ability to stop since she just kept going with the traffic having to avoid her.
Alexikokopops Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 I'm so happy I don't drive any more. It's just irritating.
Big Dave Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 My pet hate is when people completely ignore mini-roundabouts (the ones that are painted on the road) - they just cut across the junction and in effect are going the wrong way round!. You would not do that at a large traffic island.

You would not do that at a large traffic island. I agree in most cases, however some mini roundabouts are at a very tight or confined junction and are there to indicate that you should give way to the right as you would on a normal roundabout.
The Blur Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 My pet hate is when people completely ignore mini-roundabouts (the ones that are painted on the road) - they just cut across the junction and in effect are going the wrong way round!. You would not do that at a large traffic island. I was advised to do this by three different instructors. If you bother to drive around a mini rounadbout properly then it involves a lot of steering and will slow the traffic down. If it is safe to cut over the mini roundabout then it is ok to do so. I had a driving lesson today and I wanted to move to the lane right of me. The speed limit was about 40 and I was doing about 35mph however there was a car right next to me in that lane and he kept driving at same speed as me which was annoying, I had to slow down and eventually we ended up in traffic lights which by then it was too late to change lanes. My instructor said I should have increase my speed to 40mph so I can overtake him.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 I'm so happy I don't drive any more. It's just irritating. I do still drive but because of my circumstances I generally only do it at times when the roads are quiet. When I have to drive in the rush hour I usually find myself wondering why the buggery f**k people actually bother with it. It'd be a bit easier and less stressful if everyone stuck to the sodding Highway Code though, instead of inventing their own personal driving standard like bloody Clarkson or something
Guesty Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 People who don't indicate when coming off a roundabout when it's obvious the only reason I'm waiting is because they're not indicating and I'm expecting them to go round. In fact indicators in general, sometimes it's like some people don't even realise they have them - for example, when your driving along and all of a sudden the in front car just breaks almost to a stop then pulls into its drive - happend last night. People not saying thanks when i give way is also annoying. I have to admit though I will cut over a mini-roundabout, but only if I'm the only car around; there's a roundabout near the Glenfield new estate which I always cut up - don't really see the problem if no-one else is around.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Most annoying thing is when you're trying to turn right out of a side road and 20-30 metres down the road there's a traffic signal on red, but people keep driving across you. They can't go anywhere SO THEY'RE DAMN WELL NOT GOING TO LET YOU!
Jon the Hat Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 One of the most annoying things for me is people who stop randomly to let other people out. I am not talking about in slow traffic, but in normal moving traffic, they unilaterally decide to stop everyone behind them to let some other driver out or across the road. Just drive. They will be fine, a gap always opens up. I dont want to stop, so I should not have to. Also if you are doing this for me and gesticulating like an idiot while I ignore you, that is because I can see a huge gap a couple of cars behind you, and you are an idiot.

Or they do this without looking at traffic coming the other way where there is no gap, so you still can't get out (only happens if you're turning right, out of a junction).
