If their is a chance we should grab it but i very much doubt their is. In awe, would they really? Remembering that a large number of them played for Sven, some under Sir Alex Ferguson. Sorry to bring you down a bit, but O'Neill really isn't that big a name in the managerial world.

BUT, he's not the same manager he once was. He's lost his way badly at Sunderland. I think you're forgetting our players aren't a bunch of no-hopers who nobody has ever heard of, the majority of them demanded a considerable fee and some have played at a higher level, including some regular internationals. Are they really going to be in awe of someone who has guided Sunderland to a relegation battle whilst spending millions on average players? Yes, the fans would be in awe of O'Neill coming back, but let's not forget the game, and our club has moved on and changed a hell of a lot in the 13 years since he was at the helm.

You stated, do you mean you guessed or did he confide in you? He doesn't need the job, he probably doesn't want the job, he probably can't take the job until his compensation from Sunderland is sorted out. Stop deluding yourselves.

So it's about reputation now? O'Neill is obviously still held in high regard throughout football. I was questioning whether players would be in awe of him. I think there are very, very few managers that would command that type of reaction from players, and I don't think O'Neill is one of them. Maybe he once was, but I think he's lost his mojo a bit since at Sunderland, and without his right hand man. I don't think we're too good for him, not by any stretch of the imagination. I just don't think he would ever even contemplate returning. What's in it for him? Ruining a legacy? Never being able to take us to the same dizzy heights as he did before? I honestly think he'll take a long break from the game now, his pride will be hurt massively by his failure at Sunderland. There isn't even a job available for him here for goodness sake, just think it's all pointless debate really. Plus he doesn't really strike me as one for sentiment.

A few weeks ago the Pearson brigade said at least we are safely in the play offs, then they said at least we are In the play offs, and now it seems 7th is good enough!!!!! 7th is not a disaster if you climb there from 20th. 7th IS a disaster when you fall there from 2nd wasn't long but we were top once !

True that he has not taken them or Villa to giddy heights, but certainly at Sunderland he had little money available to bring in players of quality. He remains the same person who did wonders for us, and I still believe he has the charisma and ability to do a good job for us, if he would be prepared to back, which I am not sure about. Certainly I believe our board would trust him enough to put money up front for players. Martin is a wily character, with a shrewd head on his shoulders (Pearson has neither of these attributes), and would be more than capable of doing a good job here. Bring back a manager to a club, is always consider a risk, ( It certainly has hot worked with the tin head we have now), but he has a proven track record. My view is that if, and I mean if, he would come back,he could get us back into the Premiership, so a big thumbs up from me. .

Just to name a few.. £14m Steven Fletcher £5m Danny Graham £12m (?) Adam Johnson He had money alright, just didn't spend it well (besides Fletcher - even then he's horribly overpriced).
