One thing which amazes me is all the talk of how Clough achieved nothing at Forest without Taylor and the comparison to MON without JR.

Without Taylor, Clough took Forest to three League cup finals (winning two), an FA Cup final, three FA cup semi finals and a UEFA Cup semi final . Forest also finished in the top ten of the top flight ,more often than not the top five in all but one of his seasons on his own.

Hardly the record of a man that couldnt cope on his own.

Another thing to consider is that MON is no longer a young man, in fact he is three years older than Clough was when he retired. Martin always looked like a young 60 year old....not so recently. Personally I think MON will take this opportunity ( and pay off ) to walk away from football.

I work with some Norwich fans. Makes me laugh that they think MON might go back to them, and Delia could pick up the phone to get him in asap! They're worried about not being higher,negative tactics, no win in 11, no goalscorers....... hold on a minute sounds familiar!

JR was the important link between the players and the manager. One of the lads but also MON's right hand man. This squad(although obviously in need of changes) has proved this season it is capable of producing a winning run. The owners seem desperate for the prem money it wouldn't surprise me if they approached MON in an attempt to act as caretaker and try to push us into the playoffs. Idoubt he would accept I also feel his age and the loss of JR has seriously effected his staus as a top manager

The consensus among reporters who watched Sunderland regularly is one of MON's waning powers.

Sunderland have been set up conservatively,4-4-1-1,but lack pace or counter attack.

Tactics are said to have been one dimensional and lacking invention.

I can't see MON coming to City but one disappointing season doesn't make him a bad manager. I have always considered him to be a class act, he showed it before he was our manager and afterwards. He will be top of just about every wish list for clubs having a hard time.

Why is it that, when a manager is on a bad run of results, fans want him sacked and replaced with a manager who was sacked earlier for being on a bad run of results?

From O'Neill piece: under contract, #Safc could have sacked him for nowt if relegated. He also had a clause preventing him from walking out. (IE SAFC could have pursued him for compo if he'd quit. Just shows how eager he was to join)

Strange clause to have in a contract. I also heard rumours that he didn't want to join Leicester due to him wanting a clause that he wouldn't be sacked in his first season. Not sure how much truth is in that tbh.
