Can't see MON returning to Leicester and agree with other posts that have said MON is not the same without John Robertson x Really sad to see MON sacked by Sunderland and if I was him I would retire and leave all the fickleness of football behind him. ALL Leicester fans will always love Martin O'Neill and I hope he knows that - thank you MON for the greatest memories x

He seems slightly out of touch now and I'd much rather have the memories. absolutely - not exactly an inspirational figure when I've seen him lately - looks careworn and lacks the old mad passion that was so infectious

I cannot see him retiring yet look at Sir Alex still going strong at 71 MON is only 61, he has got one more job left in him I say coming back to City would revive him all the fans would be behind him. John Robertson didn't make him as manager that was all his work, Steve Guppy who is a coach, Steve Walsh who is a coach, and Muzzy Izzet would be the perfect coaching team in an ideal world.

Captain... Posted 31 March 2013 Posted 31 March 2013 We currently have a manager, until that changes I think it is pretty crass to start trying to replace him. Martin will still be unemployed by the end of the season, even if someone wanted him, he is not a man to make snap decisions. In my opinion Pearson has earned to the end of the season, sacking him between now and then would be a desperate gamble to get us into the play-offs. If this season tails off and we finish about 10th again, then I could see Pearson being sacked. If that did happen MON would be a massive favourite, and I would love him to come back, but at the moment NP is our manager and I support him 100%, I still believe we can turn this season around and we have the time to remind everyone why we got to second and why next season we can dominate this league should we fail in the play-offs.

If MON comes in now there is nothing to lose we could make the playoffs which under this current manager is seeming a tall order if we don't make the playoffs, MON will have the summer to get our team in order for next season!
foxesfan1705 Posted 31 March 2013 Posted 31 March 2013 I always thought MON was an excellent manager, what he did at Wycombe before he came to us and his achievements with LCFC. Arguably after Leicester his career has never kicked on to the next level after that, Celtic (although he did get them to the Uefa cup final) which is a mickey mouse league where the likes of Alex Macliesh have achieved success, it was always a strange move for me. Then Aston Villa and now Sunderland. Apparently at the time he left Leicester Brian Clough at told him that he would never be as successful as he wanted with a Provincial club, especially in the current era (As Clough had been), if he had stayed then I believe he/lcfc would have gone to the next level, but he didn't. We were good (with 10 men) against Millwall, the players looked fitter and were able to keep up the pressure against 11 men. However working hard for a win/draw is the minimum expectation for a professional footballer and there were some notable passengers in the game. We haven't played well in a long long time and there is no doubt we have some talented players in the squad, I do feel our Midfield is a bit lightweight but ultimately the players are not listening or responding to the manger. When the players stop listening you change the players, unfortunately Pearson cant do that with our tiny squad. I think its time up for Pearson, and with some tough games ahead with him in Charge we wont get to the playoffs, I am all for stability but I believe that not only is Pearson not capable of getting to the playoffs and promotion, i think he would completely out of his depth in the Premiership. So if there is a real hope of MON coming in this season we should take him, the team needs some real inspiration and motivation and that he can deliver. They have made a big deal in the media about him spending £23m at Sunderland, £23m really? its nothing in the current era, for me that Club with its attendances and location will never be right. He hit his career heights at LCFC and I believe he would look at the job 15 months of so on and see that the owners have gained some credibility in terms of expenditure and buying the stadium and look at our position and know he can do something about it.

If he came in right now, and couldnt put us back in the playoffs, I think City fans would be OK with that, purely because it was him who took a stab at it. And also it would be pretty much what we expected anyway coming from the dross we are seeing right now. If MON came in, dragged us into the playoffs, and got us up and then said "no more, ive done my bit", the guy in just a handful of games could cement himself even further into our history. What does he, or we, have to lose?
He's not bald Posted 31 March 2013 Posted 31 March 2013 I love MON as much as I dislike Pearson but sadly his time with us has been and gone, he's not the same person even looking at him you can see the spark has gone.Why tarnish the great reputation and cult status he has by coming back and failing?

He is definitely not the manager he was and we are not the club we were anymore, too many fond memories to tarnish! sticking with pearson is right, then re assess in the summer. rather have mcdermott or dematteo anyway if we were to change, but ultimately I think Pearson should get another year.

budfox Posted 31 March 2013 Posted 31 March 2013 Sadly O'Neill has lost what he had back when he was with us, the amount of money he's wasted on strikers such as Wickham and Graham is especially frightening. I hope we've learnt through Pearson not to go back. O'Neil works better when he has no little or no dosh. Would be a perfect gig for him here

Not sure if I'd want him back either, I love Martin but I wouldn't want to see his reputation fall if he 'failed'. I'd seriously stick with Nigel for another year, but as above, if we do lose tomorrow it might be interesting to see if any 'developments' happen. But everytime I watched Sunderland on the tv they have looked poor, playing less than entertaining football. In addition with that, he has spent a lot of money and generally underachieved.
Happy Fox Posted 31 March 2013 Posted 31 March 2013 I think the majority of City fans have the strength of conviction that MON would do a better job than NP, based on past evidence, because that is what you judge a manager on is it not? MON is far from perfect but he would be a significant improvement than NP and for that reason I would bring him in at all costs if I was in the Thais position.
shiv Posted 31 March 2013 Posted 31 March 2013 Not gonna lie, when I saw he'd been sacked I genuinely got excited for a split second on the remote possibility that he could return. Harsh on NP but I'd happily sack him if it meant getting MON in.
