Jonny Chee Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22146456 Absolutely fascinating. I wonder if it can be pulled off?
purpleronnie Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 of course not, we can't even land a man on the moon so how are we going to get to mars?.
kingfox Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 People used to call me alien head at School. So I might have a chance.
goose2010 Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 sounds like this has been dreamt up in some Amsterdam coffee shop!
Jonny Chee Posted 18 April 2013 Author Posted 18 April 2013 Either way, their website makes for great reading: http://mars-one.com/en/
ousefox Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 Who in their right mind would want to live the rest of their life there? Especially if they want relatively young and phsycologically sound people.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I misread that as 'Anyone fancy living on Mars Bars for the rest of their lives?', to which I thought, I'd give it a go. Anything for science
Jonny Chee Posted 18 April 2013 Author Posted 18 April 2013 They are expecting millions of applicants apparently. For a one way trip? Madness.
Zingari Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 It looks just like Lanzarote Surely this is an elaborate hoax to find out just how stupid we are .
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I misread that as 'Anyone fancy living on Mars Bars for the rest of their lives?', to which I thought, I'd give it a go. Anything for science You'll be able to work, rest and play. Seems like that's all the bases covered.
leicsmac Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 They are expecting millions of applicants apparently. For a one way trip? Madness. It's the fame aspect. If it's successful (or even if it's not, provided it gets off the ground) those involved will be remembered for a very long time.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I'd rather just watch Total Recall than actually "get my ass to Mars". Would undoubtedly be the most exciting thing possible for a short while, then you're pretty much guaranteed death, or a very alienated and unfulfilling existence.
Haydos Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 Haven't read too much about it but I know there's been a fair bit of controversy about whether it's a bit of a hoax or not. http://etcjournal.com/2013/04/08/mars-one-exciting-adventure-or-hoax/ They did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit and it bombed http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/ufb42/ama_i_am_founder_of_mars_one_sending_four_people/
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 It could well be a hoax, but there's nothing to say it's not a completely implausible idea. We've landed people on the moon, sent rovers to Mars, had the ISS inhabited for years. It's just that it'd require a hell of a lot of financial backing, for an indeterminate length of time. And if the project was to dry up after the first people had been shipped out, are the people behind the project then accountable for murder? And would people still want to join every 2 years after the first settlers send back messages 6 months in complaining of the radiation, rations, infighting, nobody willing to do the cleaning, equipment failure, sleep deprivation, injuries... Basically, it's possible, but very unlikely this will happen anytime soon.
Guest Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 If it gets us away from kingfox's 'banter' then I'm game.

foxfanazer Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I heard a rumour that Cardiff's owner is thinking about relocating the club. Maybe just maybe?
anotherharboroughfox Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 All seems too good to be true, but given the chance I'd go.
BoneDog Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 If it was possible I'd put my name down just to look out of the window on the way. Shit hot.
Webbo Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I heard a rumour that Cardiff's owner is thinking about relocating the club. Maybe just maybe? There'd be no atmosphere in the ground.
kingfox Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 If it gets us away from kingfox's 'banter' then I'm game. I'm sure someone can take over my reigns. They won't be as good as me of course, but would be worth the try.
foxfanazer Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 There'd be no atmosphere in the ground. badumtish...
Corky Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 There'd be no atmosphere in the ground. I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation.
danny. Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 There'd be no atmosphere in the ground. I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. I don't understand, as Mars has both an atmosphere and gravity (as do all objects)? You kids today and your crazy 'banter'.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 All seems too good to be true, but given the chance I'd go. Good luck, but don't take your sun tan lotion. Wonder if wants to go?
