Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 an end to the Sky Premiership. I want an end to clubs wanting to get promoted for the money. I want clubs to fight for promotion for the pride and the kudos of being a top flight team. I want to see teams playing on Saturday at 3pm. I want to want my team to get promoted so that I can see highlights of the match later that evening (and it not being a given that that can happen for any professional football team.) I want players to be paid a reasonable wage that reflects the short tenure of their career and the sacrifices they make, but which doesn't drain the life from a club. I want teams that are successful because of the training skills of their coaching staff rather than the buying power of their chairman. I want an end to worrying about loans and for teams to live within their means. I want an end to football as business. I want players to come through from grass-roots academies who stay with their club when they become brilliant because they realise that it was their club that helped make them brilliant. I want managers who are given more than 2 seasons to build and shape teams. I want for it not to be absolutely vital that we're promoted this season. I want for promotion to be a nice reward at the end of the season and not the be all and end all of whether people lose their jobs. I want stability, I want jumpers for goal-posts, I want old-fashioned values. I want the moon on a stick.
Tom17LCFC Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 Good post. It's sad, I sorta don't wanna go up because of the inevitable rise in ticket prices for us home and away. That's not how it should be.
Fox92 Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 ... And the FA Cup final to be on a Saturday, at 3pm. Not 5:15pm for television.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I want doesn't get, as my gran used to say. God bless her ;-)
SemperEadem Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I want the imagination brought back into our song book.
Dan Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I agree with every word but it's all been sold. The Premier League is just one massive business and everyone's bought the hype. I do want to go up but I can see myself becoming very bored of the Premier, very quickly.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I want to eat cake and not get fat !!! but I do agree with the sentiment
davieG Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I'd like most of that but in a greed driven self seeking society it isn't going to happen. I want teams that are successful because of the training skills of their coaching staff rather than the buying power of their chairman. Has that ever been the situation? True it's a lot worse now and the gap between the haves and have nots is bigger but it was always the case.

I do want to go up but I can see myself becoming very bored of the Premier, very quickly. Not sure if I'd get 'bored' with it, but I understand where you're coming from... Only two teams compete for the title each year (sometimes three). It's run by money and is a business, yeah... Cloughie said it would ruin football, and in some ways he is right (again). What he achieved by winning promotion, then winning the top tier (PL), will never be done again. Which is a shame, I do wish it was more 'open'. People complain about the Championship, and although it doesn't have better quality than the Premier League, at least 10-15 teams are always in with a chance of winning the title each season. We should aim for what Swansea have done. Win promotion, still play attractive football, don't have to spend loads of money, stay up and then win a major trophy.
Dan Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I'd like most of that but in a greed driven self seeking society it isn't going to happen. This entirely. Amazing how few people see it. Not sure if I'd get 'bored' with it, but I understand where you're coming from... Only two teams compete for the title each year (sometimes three). It's run by money and is a business, yeah... Whilst the Championship is getting a bit repetitive, I can see myself almost missing it in the end. I enjoy getting to 20+ away games a season. In the Premier League I'll do about 7/8 simply because I refuse to hand over some of the prices they want. I think when there is genuine dilemma with some fans about wanting to go up, football's gone wrong somewhere. Mine is nothing linked to how Leicester as a team would perform either.

beemeroo Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I'm afraid you've got more chance of getting a blow job from the pope. This Argentinian fella is all about reforms and modernisation. There's still hope!
Mack Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I want back door sex with Kirtsy Gallagher, I'd wager there's more chance of that also.
Carl the Llama Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I want back door sex with Kirtsy Gallagher, I'd wager there's more chance of that also. It's hard to keep intruders out since he smashed the doors in.
Buzzell Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I want doesn't get, as my gran used to say. God bless her ;-) Fact! I want my missis to give me a BJ everytime before bedtime but I don't get that!
Grewks Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I think the phrase.... 'beyond the point of return' is valid for this thread.
Burmesefox Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 Money has ruined the game totally. Cheating, diving, biting, under pressure managers blaming refs rather than the inept performance of his team, whinging, etc etc. I would love for England to break away from UEFA and FIFA and go it alone with good old fashioned football but then the investment would dry up and the players move abroad. It isnt going to happen.......we can but dream
funkyrobot Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes well you might find You get what you need.
steveherbe Posted 22 April 2013 Posted 22 April 2013 I agree with the OP, 100% I want a pony Go and have one then. I had one about an hour ago...... you WERE using cockney rhyming slang weren't you, as in I want a pony and trap??
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 April 2013 Author Posted 22 April 2013 My OP was inspired by the number of comments I've seen in the past few months that we NEED to get promoted. I've never felt like that about my club. I've wanted them to be promoted, but never needed them to be. I see stupid posts of the ilk, "if we're not promoted I won't be going next season." Or that we're financially doomed if we're not promoted. I might not go to every match like some people, but I'd support Leicester City if they were in the Conference. I'd probably go more regularly if we were in the Conference, cos I'd be able to afford it and there would be a greater likelihood of matches being played when they're scheduled. I'm certainly happier as a Leicester fan in the Championship, than as a Cardiff fan in the Premiership having sold my soul. However... if we make the play-offs...
