MonarchFox Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Just wanted peoples thoughts on this. He's played under some of the best managers around, played in the 4 best European leagues and got experience of tournament football. I don't really want a foreign manager after Hodgson and there's not exactly a great deal of english managers to pick from.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 For sentimental value then yes. But next England manager is a bit too unrealistic. No experience or knowledge of being a coach or a manager.
indierich06 Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 WHAT?! ****ing hell, used to be that the England job was the best, most coveted post in the country, reserved for only the best managers. Seems more and more over the past few years the national team is becoming a joke. If this happened I would be absolutely ****ing gobsmacked.
Bryn Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Pretty sure he's said in the past that he doesn't see his future in management.
lavrentis Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Would be brilliant if it happened. Always been passionate for England
Dan Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Ridiculous. WHAT?! ****ing hell, used to be that the England job was the best, most coveted post in the country, reserved for only the best managers. Seems more and more over the past few years the national team is becoming a joke. If this happened I would be absolutely ****ing gobsmacked. The national team is an absolute farce. Pretty fair reflection of English football in general to be honest.
StanSP Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 He probably doesn't even want to be a manager, let alone manager of England. There's no way he'll be the next England manager. I'll get his face tattooed on my back and Wembley tattooed on my chest if he becomes the next England manager.

Do we have any actual English candidates for England manager at the moment?Who is the highest placed English manager this season? Allardyce, Hughton, Pardew, Adkins, Redknapp are the only English managers and 2 of them have gone down, Bruce and maybe Holloway going up. That is very slim pickings. Our Nigel is eighth highest English manager. Only other option is Pearce. It sadly really isn't that unrealistic.

For a start they have actually managed a team.
Captain... Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 All those managers you mentioned are better than Beckham. For a start they have actually managed a team. They've got the same amount of managerial experience at international level. It has happened with other countries, and not just small countries, Klinsman did it for Germany with no managerial experience. With good coaches around him and a wise old head to guide him it is as likely a prospect as Big Sam. Unless someone like Hughton ends up at Everton and delivers a trophy and champions league football, I can only see a foreign manager next for England.
Xen Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 He needs to be involved in the England set-up in some capacity, but I can't see him taking on the Managers role. Certainly not as the next manager, maybe further down the line. Give him an assistant coach role or put him in with the youth set-up.
Alf Bentley Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Just wanted peoples thoughts on this. He's played under some of the best managers around, played in the 4 best European leagues and got experience of tournament football. I don't really want a foreign manager after Hodgson and there's not exactly a great deal of english managers to pick from. There is an English alternative to Beckham who has also played under some of the best managers around. He has played in 2 of the best European leagues and got experience of tournament football (World Cup and Euros) to a higher level than Beckham. Furthermore, unlike Beckham, he does have management experience - and is currently available.... Kettering sack manager Gascoigne Gascoigne disputes drink claims Gascoigne arrested over assault Paul Gascoigne has been sacked as boss of Kettering after just 39 days in charge, with former manager Kevin Wilson taking over in the position. Gascoigne, 38, was relieved of his duties on Monday after claims from club owner Imraan Ladak over his conduct. Ladak said the former England international was drinking too much, but Gascoigne hit back, accusing Ladak of interfering with team affairs.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Not gonna lie I did a spit take at how funnieh I found this. Beckham is too big of a celeb to be a manager imo and if he ever did it he would prolly be shit.

Guest Bilo Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Why should they have to be English? So long as they have knowledge and experience of the English game, they could do a job. Beckham won't do it. He loves his country and he loves the sport, but he clearly sees his future outside of coaching.

He loves his country and he loves the sport, but he clearly sees his future outside of coaching. We alternate depending on how crap we are. Under Keegan, we are so bad we need a foreigner in Sven. He's not what we want, let's go back to the English coach. Which is McClaren, who is awful, so let's get someone in who has done it at the top level in Don Fabio. Yet doesn't do too well, don't speak the lingo what we do so back to the English, know the game mentality. Good old Roy is chosen, but his style is a bit dull and we need to copy Spain (they win things), so the next bloke will probably be Spanish. Until he doesn't win anything and it's back to wanting an Englishman again.
Guest ttfn Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 I don't get why this is so ridiculous an idea. We'd be far from the first major (*cough*) footballing nation to put an untested manager in. In the last 10 years... Holland had Frank Rijkaard, who took them to the semi-finals of Euro 2000, and Marco van Basten, who took them to the Quarter-Finals of Euro 2008 playing some great football. Germany had Jurgen Klinsmann, who took them to the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup, playing some of the finest, most attractive football we'd seen in international football for some time. His erstwhile assistant, Jogi Low, continues to lead that particular young team. I honestly don't think it would be that bad an idea.
Guest Bilo Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 He did look a bit managerial in South Africa, bloke was more animated than Capello.
Guest ttfn Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 please God. I'd have thought you'd get it more than most. Wales' 2 best managers in the last 25 years have had no previous managerial experience, being Speed and Hughes. It seems to be a totally different game at international level.

Beckham won't do it. He loves his country and he loves the sport, but he clearly sees his future outside of coaching. Because it's the England national team. But it should be the best Englishman who has proved himself not some ex-England player with no managerial experience.
theessexfox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Jose Mourinho and David Beckham have the same amount of managerial experience at international level. Don't be ridiculous. You're not honestly telling me that everything Jose has done in management wouldn't help him on the international stage?
