Harry - LCFC Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 I did the C3 paper. Not happy about it.Annoyed at the paper but even more so at myself. Even so I'm quite surprised at the reaction at it, never seen anything like it, hoping Edexcel get forced into lowering the grade boundaries significantly. They're surely in a bad position now under so much pressure from the public.
Father Ted Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Why is there uproar? The UMS system is there for a reason... My M2 paper last summer was arguably the hardest ever, I got 59/75 and got 89UMS (somewhere around that anyway), 72/75 wouldn't have been enough for the Jan paper Personally preferred the harder papers, natural ability takes greater emphasis and more thought required, some just learn everything to the book and can't think laterally.
mbmb10 Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Got PE on the 19th which is my last A2 exam, hopefully going to Sheffield Uni.

S2 was also particularly difficult it would seem yet across the whole year student's UMS marks were down significantly. You have to ask yourself whether the grade boundaries really will be adjusted.
Nugent Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Just got my A-Level results, and got into De Montfort to study Business and Marketing! Very happy and can finally get to more football! Good luck to anyone else getting results today!
Mark_w Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Got in to Derby University doing History, haven't got my results yet. Going to have to figure out the cheapest way to get from Derby to Leicester for the football now.
RobHawk Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Good luck to all those getting results today! Anyone thinking of going through clearing with questions are more than welcome to post and i will do my best to answer ASAP. Also don't forget to update your student finance application once accepted through clearing: http://www.nasma.org.uk/uploads/public/NASMA_clearing_leaflet.pdf
Wycombe Fox Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 My lad passed Law, English and Psychology so he's got his place at Lincoln to study Law. Proud day tinged with a little bit of sadness as I'll miss him loads. Hope all other Foxestalkers get what they need.
Bugg Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I rang the University of Derby this morning not expecting much as a lot of unis are funny about accepting NVQ level 3 qualifications. But they only went and gave me a verbal offer for the course I wanted to go onto!

Lukey Boi Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Anyone have really bad AS's and then turned it around at A2?
Happy Fox Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Anyone have really bad AS's and then turned it around at A2? I had bad AS's then repeated that year, that is my advice no point doing X amount of retakes in A2 alongside those exams it would be too much work and you would end up doing badly.

I'm moving into my third year of law at Lincoln Really nice law school, facilities are great, although the teaching can be a bit questionable at times. Feel free to ask me any questions

Webbo Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 My daughter got 3cs which she's pleased with because it means she can apply for a higher grade job at work.

I had bad AS's then repeated that year, that is my advice no point doing X amount of retakes in A2 alongside those exams it would be too much work and you would end up doing badly. Yeah, I'd agree with Happy. I got E's and U's in my AS Year so I repeated it. Would have been a big ask to do all the retakes and A2s and get a decent amount of UCAS points. On track for a 2:1 at uni now so seems like a good decision, looking back.
NewburyFox Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Thanks Jonaldinho. In what way questionable? Got me worried now. How are you getting on? Nah there's no need to be worried. I'm not going to lie and say the teaching is brilliant all the time, because it isn't. That's the same wherever you go though. It really does depend on the tutors, none are bad but some don't have the most exciting way of teaching. There's a plenty of good lecturers there though, and it improves in the second year when you choose your modules. In terms of the actual law school, the facilities really are great (have you been to the uni?) and the library has everything you need IMO. I'm getting on fine pal, although I'm struggling to get into the 2:1 bracket. Seem to be averaging around 58%, hoping to push it above 60% in my final year. Lincoln is a great uni city. It's a small city so it's easy to get around, it's VERY uni centric so there are students everywhere and the social life is ideal (plenty of nice pubs and decent clubs for the night life.) I got into here through clearing and it was genuinely one of the best decisions I made. Where is your lad staying? Also, in case you didn't know, it's very easy to get back to Leicester by train. £9 return with a railcard.

Yes I did visit the Uni with him sometime in April. He loved the place straight away and coming from the Isle of Wight he felt more at home with Lincoln than the previous place we visited, Liverpool Uni. He's applied for accommodation in Park Court.

Yeh that's fine with me mate. Ah, I know where that is but have never been inside.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 100% pass rate from the other side of the fence, as it were. Students utterly beasted the coursework but found the exam hard going, it was pretty difficult if I'm honest, and am fairly pleased overall.
Matt Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Well done to anyone who got into Uni. To the people that didn't, don't get too upset, think of the money you'll save/earn!
Wycombe Fox Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Yeh that's fine with me mate. Ah, I know where that is but have never been inside. He's been offered accommodation in Aqua House.
Guest MattP Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Well done to those who got what they wanted. Those who didn't, even if it doesn't fell like it now, you'll look back on this day and laugh.
