StanSP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 What's going on! Chelsea signing a competent, experienced back-up keeper on a free instead of blowing £10 million on a bench warmer! Mourinho's getting ready to oust Cech.
Fox92 Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 Let's not forget Chelsea have Thibaut Courtois as well. Might eventually turn into their number one?
StanSP Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 Let's not forget Chelsea have Thibaut Courtois as well. Might eventually turn into their number one? I think Atletico might try to push for a permanent deal on that one.
Leicesterpool Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 You don't half talk some shite how? did you see mcleish take villa to the top ten? Gary Megson got west brom relegated and a few years later ended up at bolton. Harry Redknapp got southampton relegated then returned to Portsmouth, okay he took them to europe and won them the fa cup but look how much debt in put them in, okay you can't blame him for the lot of that debt, but did he need to sign Defoe, Crouch, Campbell?

Easy top ten again. Stupid to suggest they could be in trouble
Fox92 Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 1st. Chelsea 2nd. Man Utd 3rd. Man City 4th. Spurs ------------------------------ 5th. Arsenal 6th. Swansea 7th. West Brom 8th. Everton 9th. West Ham 10th. Aston Villa 11th. Fulham 12th. Newcastle 13th. West Brom 14th. Southampton 15th. Cardiff 16th. Sunderland 17th. Stoke ------------------------------ 18th. Norwich 19th. Hull 20th. Palace Am I being stupid here or have you got 20 PL teams but no Liverpool? I've even double checked. That's strange...?
ScouseFox Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 Am I being stupid here or have you got 20 PL teams but no Liverpool? I've even double checked. That's strange...? West Brom are finishing 7th and 13th. Tough ask.
Fox92 Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 West Brom are finishing 7th and 13th. Tough ask. Oh yeah, - Didn't spot he had put in a team twice.
NewburyFox Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 Everton won't be anywhere near relegation. Easy top ten again. Stupid to suggest they could be in trouble I think a lot will depend on which star players they lose this summer. Baines and Fellaini could well leave, and they won't be replaced by similar quality. Martinez's signings have been very average so far, and David Moyes overachieved with that squad IMO. Once you factor in the change in the way they play, I don't think it's too ridiculous to suggest that they could be embroiled in a relegation battle. Currently I'd have them down for a midtable finish, but decent teams (for example Newcastle last season) have had squads that you'd look at and say that it's capable of getting a top 10 finish and have struggled.

Imo Martinez massively overachieved keeping Wigan in the prem for as long has he did. Just because a manager is relegated with a team it doesn't automatically mean he's a poor manager. Would be amazed if you and leicesterpool are right and Everton do flirt with relegation but let's wait and see

I don't think he's a poor manager, but I do worry about the quality of the current squad (if the star players leave) and the players that Martinez has brought in. I'm hearing good things of Gerard Deulofeu though, who signed today on a season long loan. Like I said, I expect a finish of between 9-14 for them providing they don't lose their best players.
Fox92 Posted 10 July 2013 Posted 10 July 2013 Apparently they've valued Baines at £18million. Will United match that? I've also read that Arsenal won't match Fellaini's demand of 100k a week wages... Obviously nobody knows what will happen, bit early yet, but Martinez is a decent manager who will have better quality players at Everton (no disrespect). I'm questioning the quality he has brought in so far but I'd be amazed if Everton are near the bottom.
Dan Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Everton will be about 12th, they've got to give him time to build something because his style is a massive transition from what Moyes played at Everton. If I was Man Utd, I'd pay that. Genuinely believe he's one of the best left backs in the world. Arsenal not paying those demands is exactly why they never win owt. They can afford it but I don't know, they're too scared to take it to the next level and are happy with coming 4th every year.

They can afford it but I don't know, they're too scared to take it to the next level and are happy with coming 4th every year. Thing is, they can afford it for 1 or 2 players, but then you have the problem of other players demanding they be on the same level. To risk sounded like an obsessed FM player, you'll get some players who want 'Match Highest Earner' clauses in the contract or at least want some parity for someone brand new coming in to the squad. One player can set the ball rolling and potentially lead players to holding the club to ransom. They're very set in their own ways and won't break the bank for 1 or 2 players. It has it's advantages but the biggest disadvantage is the gulf in quality and the huge gap betwen themselves and top 3, and possibly more if/when clubs like Spurs/Liverpool start to overtake them consistently.
Jordan Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 I hear Clint Dempsey was just transfer-listed by Spurs.
Dan Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Just a side note with me, don't ever feel like some obsessed FM player if you talk to me I can come up with the most ridiculous analogies relating the game it's untrue. Your point is right and I respect they'll probably do it in principle, but are they really happy to come 4th every year, and celebrate coming above Spurs or qualifying for Europe every year and be genuinely proud of it? Arsenal to me strike me as a club with no ambition of being a giant again, who will still milk every penny they can. Got no time for that personally.
Fox92 Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Also, isn't Walcott on 100k a week but they won't pay Fellaini that? I'd rather have Fellaini, taking into consideration their midfield, even if it means selling Walcott to balance out.
foxfanazer Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Sky sports 1 will be free for the opening day of the premier league season. Swansea v Man yoo will be the televised game
Leicfox Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Tom Ince will today give Cardiff an answer on whether he wants to join them after Blackpool agreed an £8m fee.
foxfanazer Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Think he'd want to go to a club with a but more security in the prem to be honest

Dan Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Tom Ince will today give Cardiff an answer on whether he wants to join them after Blackpool agreed an £8m fee. I don't think that'd be a bad move for him really. He'd still be one of the main men in the team and it's a division higher.
purpleronnie Posted 12 July 2013 Posted 12 July 2013 Think he'd want to go to a club with a but more security in the prem to be honest maybe no other prem club want him.
