sylofox Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 No, they wouldn't have. Unless you can predict the future. Money don't buy you success, at least not on this level. And when it does, it's either very rare and/or comes with a hefty price to pay (see Cardiff for further reference). I do agree to a point but well spent money however much by the right man will buy success any any level.
ScoutMan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Beckford 30k Kasper 30k Danns 25k Koncheskey 25k St Ledger 25k Nugent 20k Wellens 20k Gally 20k With all the rest on between 10-15k would be a rough guess I wonder what Sven was on?
eye666 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Really don't think Kasper would be on 30k coming from (at the time at least) broke Leeds. I may well be wrong, but that would surprise me.
Fox92 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 It wasn't just Eriksson, put the blame on the owners and the boards, as well. They were the ones willing to buy players at horrendously high prices. Sven merely had a wish list and the rest of the club was blinded by the illusion of immediate success that they didn't really reconsider. I get fed up of all this 'it wasn't just Sven' stuff... He was manager, and should have overseen it all. If he didn't then he is a bigger idiot than I first thought. Take NP for example, when he wanted Billy Sharp, the player asked for too much money and Pearson pulled the plug on the deal and he then signed for Southampton.
Dan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 I reckon as total guesses; Schmeichel £15k De Laet £6k Konchesky £25k Drinkwater £7k Morgan £12k Whitbread £10k Marshall £7k Danns £20k Vardy £6k King £18k Dyer £12k St Ledger £15k Logan £4k Waghorn £10k James £7k Gallagher £20k Schlupp £8k Wellens £20k Beckford £30k Moore £5k Knockaert £8k Futacs £5k Nugent £25k Wood £10k Don't think I'll be too far out with most of them. Wouldn't be surprised if Pearson's signings were on more than I've put mind.
seenitall Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 So a Whitbread a Futacs a Vardy and a Waghorn = a Beckford - I'd keep Beckford personally

We wanted him, he turned us down. Same as Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart
Simo86 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Not true. We wanted him, he turned us down. Same as Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart Sharp wanted more than Beckford, we said no
Dan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 In what world would Conrad Logan be on 4k a week! So what would you say he's on?
Simo86 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 but how do you know what the wage bill is? LIke what fleckneymike said, but if it wasn't published I'd still know/be able to find out

Got a few more or less spot on, but what makes you think Danns would come from Palace and suddenly be on 20k? Bit high with Gally as well. Most are slightly over but close.
Dickov22 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Sharp wanted more than Beckford, we said no Not true
Guest Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Allegedly, Sven handed the club a list of players he wanted signed and then left to go on holiday. He left the club to it and didn't even specify an order of attack hence the rather lopsided nature of who ended up coming in and the fees/wages given for them. This is why CMS said Sven wouldn't meet him when he opted for Brighton instead. As ridiculous as it is, Sven didn't have anything to do with the money side of it as he barely got involved with any of it!

Grewks Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 And to this day it amazes me that some believe we should have kept Sven.........
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 And to this day it amazes me that some believe we should keep Pearson........
Simo86 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Not true Not what I heard, but hey ho Gallagher was handed a new deal by Sven so automatically is on more than he's worth. Did we not outbid Bolton & Rangers for Danns? Just because a contract was signed under Sven doesn't mean a player was offered more than double that he was originally on. Again, we may have outbid them but you don't know what was offered by them and what he was on originally
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 People wouldn't mind if Sven brought top players and payed them big money. But the likes of Ball, Pantsil, Johnson, Mills were the real problems as they were a sack of shit.

But the likes of Ball, Pantsil, Johnson, Mills were the real problems as they were a sack of shit. These players don't get anywhere near enough mention IMO. Downright dreadful signings. Mills, Bamba, Danns etc. are always brought up but at least they actually contributed, Those first three largely did nothing and got paid for it.

Yes, fancy not picking themselves for the team, the fools..... You might continue the theme this year with Futacs, Whitbread, Vardy, Waghorn, Gallagher, Wellens....it is annoying that you can only play 11 isn't it....

He didn't blame them, he said they were stupid signings. Futacs, Whitbread and Vardy either featured more or were less costly, Gallagher and Wellens both featured heavily under the manager who signed them first time around. Waghorn is the most comparable, but unlike those three he had at least proved himself for Leicester before he was signed.
Fox92 Posted 16 June 2013 Posted 16 June 2013 Not true. We wanted him, he turned us down. Same as Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart Not true Where you heard this? Pearson said at the time we couldn't match what the player wanted, hence we pulled out. Allegedly, Sven handed the club a list of players he wanted signed and then left to go on holiday. As ridiculous as it is, Sven didn't have anything to do with the money side of it as he barely got involved with any of it! Which backs my point up. It is ridiculous, he was ridiculous. I don't care if he didn't have anything to do with the money side of things, he was still the manager. As someone else said, I doubt we would have minded that much if they were actually good players/signings.
SMX11 Posted 16 June 2013 Posted 16 June 2013 Well he is an incompetent manager then if he didn't care about what his players were earning.

But it seems ironic that Sven spent big money wherever hes been. £274m was spent on players during his time at Lazio. Including breaking the world transfer record signing Hernan Crespo for I think £35m. Actually Lazio went into financial meltdown in 2001 and by then Sven had resigned to manage England.
