Happy Fox Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/story-19565927-detail/story.html?#axzz2Zwu5sZcf Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel says now is not the time to discuss signing a new contract. The Denmark international is coming to the last season of his current contract and his impressive performances during the past two seasons have led to interest from other clubs, with City rejecting several bids for Schmeichel from Premier League new boys Hull during the summer. Signing a new contract would end the speculation, but Schmeichel said he did not want to discuss such matters until the season was up and running and City had made a good start. "Right now we are into pre-season and this isn't the time to start talking about that," he said. "We need to focus on getting a good start to the season and then see what happens. I am happy here. If not, I would be issuing transfer requests. "I have been so busy and I haven't had time to deal with it (the speculation). Everything was going on during the international break so I couldn't really take any notice of it. "I just go by the philosophy that I am where I am and, if someone tells me they want something different, then I would have to look at it. But if not, I am happy as things are." Schmeichel linked up with the City squad during their training camp in Austria after being given extra time off following his extended season on international duty. He said he was raring to go and believes City could have another strong season, especially as he has returned to practically the same squad that took City to within a whisker of reaching the play-off final last season. "We have a good core of players," he said. "We narrowly missed out last season, so keeping the core of the squad is very important and making a few additions, like we have. "Hopefully, we can bring in one or two more. Then, we will have a very good chance again this season. "It has been short for me in terms of time off, but it is good to be back and I can't wait for the season to start now."
DB11 Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 We don't get promoted then he will be off. That's quite evident.
glenny_fox Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 Not the most encouraging article I've ever read. I think if it comes to January and he hasn't signed one then I'd consider selling.
Leicester_Numan Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 Not the most encouraging article I've ever read. I think if it comes to January and he hasn't signed one then I'd consider selling. We're in the same position with Wes. A lot will depend on where we are in the league come January.
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 No he won't and that's why we should have sold him. We're idiots. If we'd said to Hull we want £3 million and you can have him, they'd have paid that. We'd have saved nearly nearly a million in wages too. That money could have been used to strengthen or offset against our debt for FFP. Instead we have a very good player for one more season and then he'll walk away for free. The only way he'll sign a new deal is if we're promoted and that's because we can't afford to offer him a new deal in this division. He'll not accept a pay cut. The same could be said for Wes Morgan, he'll also be able to walk away for free when we've been offered decent money for him. I know some will argue that it's short sighted and negative to sell your best players but in the position we're in and the fact they'll walk for free is just stupid. I also think this squad isn't good enough, the managers not good enough either. We've not strengthened because we can't, so what is going to happen? A frustrating season, several players leaving next summer and a new manager. We're likely to be even weaker but without the money we could have received. It's all about knowing when to cash in and we should have done with Kasper. Wes i'd perhaps take a risk on but if Forest want him enough and offered over £2.5 million then i'd be flogging him.
cuddly ken Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 Kasper will not sign another contract, FFP and all that Expect him to sign a pre contract for another club this Jan.

If this is the case, then I'd rather wait til next summer to hit the reset button again, rather than be stuck with the wrong manager for the players or vice versa. I like the fact that this coming season is promotion or bust for a lot of contracts this season, how it should be.
Bryn Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 I would probably have sold him, he clearly won't re-sign unless we go up.

I'd sell Kasper and Wes for £5 million and then pay off Pearson, Gallagher, Danns and a few others. A reset that's cost us nothing but could gain everything.
Dr The Singh Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 If the club can't meet his ambitions then what can a player do!! Hopefully we'll get promoted, and he will sign for us!

Guest MattP Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 Why we didn't sell him I have no idea. Clearly just running it out and getting a move and a huge signing on fee next season. Even if we go up he won't stay.

Guest MattP Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 "Now is not the time to discuss it" is insulting to any supporter with a hint of intelligence. 99% of the time a footballer and his agent would be in the chairmans office within a day if you mentioned new contract as it would come with a pay rise.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 The Nature Boy has got all this bang on I have to say. If I'd suggested it I'd have been attacked & subject to inhumane treatment by the FT oppressors of free speech.

Jace Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 He will never sign another contract with us great to see him here for another year terrific keeper in my opinion. £3 million and Jack Hobbs if we could have got it and Schmeichels wages off our books would have been a fantastic all round scenario I think for Leicester and Hull
Fox92 Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 We should have got rid of him when Hull made the bid, I said it at the time. (Especially if Hobbs was offered as part of the deal). We could have easily got between £1million and 2million for him, got an excellent centre half in Hobbs and then made a bid for Steele at Barnsley (who is good as good as Kasper, would probably want less wages and would be avaliable at half the price we sold Kasper for). I'll not be happy if he ends up going for free.
Happy Fox Posted 25 July 2013 Author Posted 25 July 2013 He is the best goalkeeper in the championship that is a fact, we will not find a better replacement at this level imo, if he helps us gain promotion this season it will be all worth it that is the big question though.

Successful clubs, managers and owners know when to cash in. Our manager, and our owners have absolutely no proven success at this though so we shouldn't be surprised. Promotion is an absolute pipe dream this season, the squad wasn't good enough lasts eason so why will it be this year? We've got worse, not better!

foxfanazer Posted 25 July 2013 Posted 25 July 2013 Probably should've sold from a business side of things but he would've been really difficult to replace imo. Think this will be his last season with us and we will lose him for free to one of te teams that gets promoted this season (unless one of them is us)

He isn't the best goalkeeper in the division. He's 26, and if he was as good as what he's made out to be, he would have played for better/higher clubs than Leicester, Leeds and Notts County.
Happy Fox Posted 25 July 2013 Author Posted 25 July 2013 He isn't the best goalkeeper in the division. Then I guess the PFA team of the year is bobbins?
