Guest Bilo Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 People laughing because 'Coventry are our rivals' confuse me. 1: It isn't a rivalry. Some of the kids on both sides think it is, as do a lot of people living in places like Hinckley, Lutterworth and Nuneaton, but our traditional and most fiercely fought derbies have always been with our incestuous East Midlands neighbours. Compare our ends at the City Ground and the Ricoh to see what I mean. The M69 Derby is crap. 2: Even if you do see them as rivals, why would you want to see those derbies go forever? The first fixtures I look for are Derby and Forest when the fixtures are released. I love the banter, build-up and atmospheres associated with these matches. As and when we do go up, I want us to go up with a local rival because I'd miss the derbies if we didn't. 3: it could just as easily be us. Sven's financial legacy is horrendous and managed only by the Thai's considerable wealth and Pearson's cost cutting. Remove one or both of these advantages and we could take a similar route.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Have any of you actually read the article?
oxford blue Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Having read the article, I still think (and hope - as a football fan) there is still scope for agreement, depending on the arrangement that Coventry have with Northampton ie if they play at the Ricoh this season will there be a financial penalty they will pay to Northampton? It makes no sense for ACL, the owners of the Ricoh see Coventry's demise. Hopefully common sense between CCFC and ACL will prevail - but by no means guaranteed in football!
Guest Bilo Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 10 point deduction confirmed by Football League. They have dodged one hell of a bullet considering Luton were deducted 20 of their 30 point deduction for breaking administration rules.
Corky Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 10 point deduction confirmed by Football League. You could say "one rule for big club, one for another", but that doesn't apply here
Guest Bilo Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 I don't see them lasting the season unfortunately. The spokesman from the Sky Blues Trust says that attendances are expected to be less than 1,000 at Sixfields with 300 season tickets sold and next to no casual 'walk-up' sales on matchdays. That would be even worse than Wimbledon after announcing the move to Milton Keynes. Expect a fan owned 'rebel' club to be set up in Coventry, possibly somewhere like the rugby club.
Leicesterpool Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Why haven't the club been kicked out? the club's dead!
Guest Bilo Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Why haven't the club been kicked out? the club's dead! The club is part owned by two companies, only one of those has been liquidated. That said, Otium (to whom the golden share has been transferred today) are SISU in all but name apparently. Playing in Northampton will kill the club off I'm afraid.

I'd like to see them do that. I'd like to see us do that if we were in the same position. It will probably be their only option soon enough anyway.

It will probably be their only option soon enough anyway. There is talk on the Coventry forum of a rebel club taking the Ricoh, given that ACL are happy to take £100k a season in League Two. The level at which a new club would start would clearly be far lower than L2 and the rent may match that. Their shocking attendances seem to have as much to do with a long term dissatisfaction towards SISU as anything else, so they could shift a few thousand season tickets even in the Evo-Stik leagues if the new club were fan owned.
Libertine Dream Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 The football club sums up the city as a whole
Harry - LCFC Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 I know many don't like them and I also have a strong disliking for them too, Coventry are my main rival. But saying you want the the club to collapse? That's a step too far. It's a bit liking wanting someone executed for stealing your car. Brutal and unnecessary. Have some respect guys.
breadandcheese Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 I've never liked Coventry as a team but it's very sad what's happening to them. It seems like SISU, the old owners are still involved with the football club, so it's all rather depressing if you're a Coventry fan. I still for the life of me, do not understand the football league's punishment system for clubs in liquidation. What determines whether a club gets a 10, 15, 20 or 30 point deduction?
Aus Fox Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 When we were in trouble the fans rallied around we had stronge atteddanes and lots of fans put their hands in their pockets....Cov supporters have deserted them. I remember when we had to play games at the City Ground at the end of one season and we took thousands to forest, Cov have 300 odd STH. If this shows anything it's clubs can't exist without supporters.

purpleronnie Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 We had to play one game there, and it was a play-off match. I was going to say, thought my memory was bad . Not quite the same as moving to northampton is it. One of the saddest but predictable things about the problems coventry faced were how little attention it got from the likes of sky tv, on the day coventry were handed a 10 point penalty gareth bales possible move to RM grabbed all the headlines. 100 Million transfer or a 130 year old club on the brink of ruin. Guess we know where sky's priorities lie.
Aus Fox Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 We had to play one game there, and it was a play-off match. Haha thought it was more, just remember going there when I was young for a home game and being a fantastic atmosphere, how time plays tricks with your memory
Matt Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 I'm baffled as to how they have survived this long tbh. People say they are surprised how far this has gone and Coventry are in this state, I'm not, I'm surprised it didn't happen a good 3 or 4 years ago. It's sad because it's the big rivally based on where I live and I will miss that banter and laughing at Coventry, I don't really care about or rivally with Forest or Derby, I'm really not, they're not rivals/derbys to me, but some (Alot) have that opinion over Coventry, that's fair enough but don't tell me 'Coventry are not rivals/derbys against Leicester'...That is your opinion, not a fact as some people seem to claim. I've enjoyed Coventry stuggling, but I want them to survive, on the other hand I think going out of business could be the best thing for them, the club is all but dead, I can't see them winning the fans back, which have dwindled year by year.
Jay Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Haha thought it was more, just remember going there when I was young for a home game and being a fantastic atmosphere, how time plays tricks with your memory It was the home leg of the play offs in 1993against Portsmouth and Joachim scored amazing goal running from in his own half. We played there because the building of the carling stand had to be started on time ready for the new season.
Corky Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Agonising defeat for Covhampton this afternoon, lost 3-2 at Crawley.
Danizen Posted 4 August 2013 Posted 4 August 2013 Remember when Manderic had that brilliant idea to let us vote for a slogan to go on the front of our shirts? And remember how the Cov fans planned to sabotage the poll by voting en masse for the worst option (FOREVER FOXES)? Well....Karma's a bitch.
