fleckneymike Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 How about we use this as an example from now on. When we feel like being rash, which we all do due to frustration, we need to remember these sort of games. Very difficult game, against a very good side, 1-0 down, a key defender down, and 2 players whom most have deemed 'surplus' have stepped up to bring home the 3 points - and deservedly! Great win boys, well done! Trust me that is not a very good side. Genuinely fear for Boro this season. As bad as we were first half we were good second. Way too flat 1st half, aimless crossfield punts and over reliance on the wingback. Second half the midfield pushed up and closer to both a marauding DeLaet and the front two, as soon as we ran at Boro they fell apart, Nugent made a huge difference with his direct running and link up play. Nice finish from Vardy (but shocking touch) and endless running. Moore looked composed SSL was erratic. We'd be wise to field the same side in the cup to help them grow more acsustomed to how they need to play.
BlueSi13 Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 A great and very surprising result. Here's hoping we can push on and not let it go to waste. This league is going to be ferociously competitive and we almost need to treat every game like a six pointer. The difference between first and eighth is going to be closer than ever I believe.
Jordan Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 That Vardy goal was a fantastic finish. I won't comment much on the game as I didn't watch or listen today, but damn, that result has already made my weekend.
Fox92 Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Waiting for the bus to come and these two idiot 'Boro fans were stood next to me saying 'lets should Almunia, lets should Deeney'. I thought to myself, well at least we made the play offs and didn't end up mid table. Anyway, the bus comes, Knockaert gets off and they both started shouting 'Deeney, Deeney'. I was like, you idiots!
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Was sounding dysmal first half and it was great that the team worked hard to turn it around. I think realising early on that they need to work hard for the results is better than getting 1-0 up and trying to sit the rest out. Great result Really hope Whitbread's injury isn't as serious as it appears
AnotherShitSeason Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Had £30 on the win today, in a treble with Forest and QPR. Building up the war chest until we're 66-1.
whoareyaaa Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Had £30 on the win today, in a treble with Forest and QPR. Building up the war chest until we're 66-1. Why don't you stick your winnings on us to get relegated.
Leicester_Numan Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has suggested thatLeicester City's first goal may have been offside. Boro were beaten 2-1 by City after leading, and dominating for much of the first half. He also pinpointed his side's failure to get a second goal when they were one-nil up, as a key factor in the defeat. "There's a hint of offside about their first goal," said Mowbray. How about the hint of a foul on St Ledger for your goal Mowbray?
smudger63 Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Excellent start to the season. A brave team selection by Pearson, one that i wasn`t impressed with, and one that if things had gone pear shaped, would have left him open to much criticism, so fair play to him. I still don`t believe that is our best starting line up, but we got a very good win today, and that`s all that matters. Always good to get the first victory of the season, and especially pleasing, given that it was away, and that we had to come from behind to win the game. Hopefully that should give us some confidence in the coming weeks.
Babylon Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Why don't you stick your winnings on us to get relegated. That's what he was suggesting.
whoareyaaa Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 That's what he was suggesting. Oh, Great he will lose the lot.
Babylon Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Oh, Great he will lose the lot.Not that I believe he won a bean.
whoareyaaa Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Not that I believe he won a bean. It wouldn't surprise me he does seem to talk a lot of shit.
NewburyFox Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Shocking first half, brilliant last 40 minutes. We were far too flat in the first half, the midfield trio were in a line, barely got on the ball and when they did, it just went back to the CBs. They then lumped it long to Wood and Vardy, who won absolutely jack. We could and maybe should've been more than one down at HT, Emnes and Juke both fluffed great chances. I was wondering about 5 minutes into the second half what we were going to do to change it, as we would have lost comfortably had we continued in the same fashion. Fortunately we just seemed to click in to gear, we had a five minute spell just before Drinkwater's goal where we put them under huge pressure, including a big penalty call, and the equaliser came at just the right time. Unlike at times last season, we continued to press after getting the equaliser. The midfield (Drinkwater especially) started getting on the ball more and importantly started playing between the lines of their defence and midfield. De Laet started getting forward more, and was a constant threat. Nugent made a huge difference, he won headers, made the right runs, and linked brilliantly with Vardy. The winner when it came was no less than we deserved, and we were fairly comfortable until the end. Before the game started, I criticised Nigel on here for a) playing Konchesky at LWB, b) for not starting Marshall or Knocky, and c) for starting Vardy ahead of Schlupp or Nugent. I'm happy to say I was proved wrong on all three counts. Although I don't see him having a future at LWB due to his age, Konchesky played reasonably well. The midfield, once they upped the tempo in the second half, dominated, and Vardy's goal speaks for itself. Well done Nigel.
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Great away performance, to show the strength of character to win the game going a goal down is fantastic, Drinkwater and Vardy stepped up to the plate.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 I wonder if Kingfox still wants to see Drinkwater fooked off. Made us tick second half. But was also largely responsible for slowing our play down and halting our progress forward with negative passing in the first half. I like Drinkwater and when he's on song he orchestrates things in the middle of the park for us but he has got some limitations that he needs to sort to be a top player. When Pearson talks about us having been braver and more positive in the second half I think he's referring to the fact that, when they got on the ball, the likes of Drinkwater were looking for forward passes/supplying the front line better. Was Vardy really good in non league? I don#t think Pearson would have paid the money if he did not see some potential. He is aware I would think of the massive difference in standard of play in the divisions. But saying that oyher non league players have flopprd. I wonder what the ratio is for success and failure? It happens with youth team players too. Vardy mat have been one missed at youth level. lost his chance at a trial session but I don't know his history. I used to live in Sheffield and Vardy had been in the academy at Sheffield Wednesday before being released and going through a bit of a rough patch I think. I was told by a friend of a friend that he had served time inside for an assault outside/inside a nightclub and that this was why there's a gap in his career where he wasn't at any club. He then had a daughter and this gave him a bit of a reality check and that's when he started to apply himself a bit better and work his way back up the ladder.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Nice to get up and running straight away. The classic tale of two halves really... First half we were laboured. The players didn't seem to be committed to playing the positive passes and there was a lot of possession across the back three until Schmeichel was forced to pump it long where Wood and Vardy were feeding off scraps. Add in sloppiness from Konchesky, James struggling to influence things and Drinkwater's fairly negative approach to our play and we could have been a couple down by half time. I think we had about five shots, four were from Konchesky and only one of them was anything approaching making the keeper work to save it. Second half we were much better. They were looking for the forward, incisive passes and we upped the tempo, cutting them apart regularly. James, King and Drinkwater came more into it and I actually think that Pearson moved Drinkwater furthest forward out of the three and he ended up getting in areas just behind the strikers where he could slip balls through to them. I remember him playing a fairly advanced position at Watford in the play-offs so maybe something that Pearson feels makes him more effective? Vardy was absolutely brilliant; worked hard, was neat during the build-up and got a well deserved goal with a sublime finish. When Nugent came on for Wood (who was completely ineffectual today) his clever movement and use of the ball resulted in plenty of chances and we could have scored more than just two. He always has an impact when he comes off the bench and always lifts the performance I feel. Another performance of note came from Moore who was fantastic and eased into the game immediately. I would prefer to see him in the starting side than either Whitbread or St Ledger, the lad has a maturity beyond his years. De Laet was tireless and probably our only man who gave a good performance in both halves so I'd have him as MOTM. King did the little things that often go unnoticed well as per always. That second 45 minutes and a sun-basked and loud second half away end made it a very enjoyable away day!
tomtom Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Why is Vardy's wrist always bandaged up, either, like half the posters on foxestalk, he wanks constantly, or he's got a very annoying girlfriend who he has to bash from time to time. Smack dat bitch I blame Lineker 86

I wouldn't pin this on him today. Both James and King were responsible too, King in particular, and the midfield weren't helped by a complete lack of movement from the front two. There were no runs and nothing stuck to them. Fortunately it changed in the second half!
AnotherShitSeason Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 Buzzing for the Football League Show tonight. Bet you slip the Captains armband on at 23:34. You seem to be the type who would do that.
cjslcfc Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 I have read the pre match comments, comments during the game and these comments after the game. I reckon we should abuse every single player, and the manager, pre match. Then they will all prove us wrong and having been proven wrong we will be even happier than normal as we didn't expect a good result. This place is far too happy to be the Foxes talk Forum
jamesmilner Posted 3 August 2013 Posted 3 August 2013 3pts . not 100% expected but delivered . nuff said . well done !
