HEGGSY Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Man United managed to score Juan penalty, but Sunderland scored 2, so it didn't Mata.
J.Lisemore Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Really does show how much these players played for Fergie, there so average. Sacking Moyes would be silly at the moment, he needs time to assemble his own team. That's not to say he fvcked up in last summers transfer window, I know hindsight is a beautiful thing , but... £28M for Fellaini.
theessexfox Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Have you ever seen any of those United players take a penalty?
Leicesterpool Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Wow what a game, well done to Sunderland i was feeling it for them through out that penalty shootout, to be honest deserved go through they never gave up through out. Man U's season just can't get any worse
Fox92 Posted 22 January 2014 Author Posted 22 January 2014 Their squad is trash, not particularly Moyes fault. I agree. Said it all along and thankfully Ian Wright wasn't afraid to say it last week. Probably three players who could get into other squads (Rooney, Van Persie, Carrick), the rest are 'average'. They seriously miss goals from midfield, something they've always had when you consider how many goals Cantona, Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Ronaldo, Keane etc scored. Fellaini was a ridiculous waste of cash, but I think Moyes jumped in just to sign a player because he couldn't get who he initially wanted. Bit like Sven and the Beckford situation after failing to get better options.
Langston Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Looking at their squad five years ago compared to now makes for a frightening comparison.
Donut Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 I think tonight probably effectively means no european football for Manchester United next season. Unthinkable. But i dont see them climbing the league. The lower top half is where they belong, Mata or not.
Uncle Albert Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 I can honestly see them finishing top four, just to piss on everyone's bonfires, it will piss me off more than most. Mata is a ridiculously good signing IF it is to happen, Rooney and Van Persie are both too good not to be scoring goals. Pains me writing that.
Guest MattP Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 More concerning for Man U should be the fact that they were outplayed for long periods by a woeful side. We really are seeing this year just how shit the Smallings, Welbecks and Joneses are this year. Hopefully now Roy will stop picking some of them just because they wear Utd shirts.
Ross-Kemp Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 Where is he actually going to play Mata?I was wondering that, he seems to be favouring a 442, mata will not fit into that system.
Brainy Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 Of course it is Fergie made that team over perform,Moyes should of made changes in the summer. So Moyes was meant to walk in and be as good as Ferguson immediately?
Dan Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 I was wondering that, he seems to be favouring a 442, mata will not fit into that system. To me it's another total panic buy. It's hard to turn down a player like Mata when he becomes available but I can't help but think they're about to splash a ridiculous fee for someone who doesn't play in their weakest position, who would require a serious system change to perform. He's ideal in a 4-2-3-1. Well I've not seen any of that from Moyes yet. The defence should be their priority. I heard they were linked with Dante as well and he's easily better than their current centre halves. Funny isn't it how the ship may have sailed with Baines now - would he even go there?

To be honest I think he's exactly the kind of player they need, going forwards, they need a lot of work at the back as well agreed. Dante wont go there why would he he's playing for the best team in Europe and being payed a packet to do so. On subject I've never seen an adult level penalty shoot out at any level be that bad and that includes Division 4 Sunday League level, so many players who are paid 5 figures weekly to play football can't even get the ball close to the target unopposed from 12 yards is laughable really.

He won't be a bad signing by any means but where exactly is he playing? I can see Moyes trying to put him on the left in a 4-4-2. Dante was just a rumour, doubt there's much to it. They're going to have to start bidding for less obvious players because without European participation they'll lose a hell of a lot of pulling power regardless of their name. The penalty shootout was a total embarrassment and summed up the weak mentality of a lot of both sides. I think over the two legs, Sunderland deserved it.
Uncle Albert Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 De Gea Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra Fletcher - Carrick Januzaj - Rooney - Mata Van Persie That already looks a much better side already, when Rooney and Van Persie are back, with them three Januzaj, Rooney and Mata, they're all capable of playing across them positions. Ferguson often had Rooney operating from the left, Mata has played there, he prefers to be playing centrally but he can still play out there. I really think they will finish top 4 with Mata signing, if it's true about Dante as well then that would be another good signing.

Certainly a good side with the inclusion of Mata, still think they are weak at the back and lack any sort of strength in depth.

They don't lack strength in depth, really apart from another ball winning central midfielder, I don't think anyway. Players I haven't included in that eleven: Smalling Jones Ferdinand Valencia Young Fellaini Cleverley Welbeck Hernandez Kagawa

Their best players in that defence/defensive mid are all over 30 now, they won't be around much longer. Evans, Fletcher and Rafael are bang average, Probably good enough back up but Ferguson somehow manage to rely on them sort of players in more of a rotation role for years.

Those players don't compete with the depth teams like Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and even Tottenham have. In fact the players who can't get into those teams would be playing week in week out for Man U

Dan Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 A much improved side but their defence is still crap. Time for them to bin off 4-4-2 and start playing 4-2-3-1. It's not like they haven't got the players.
