Renart Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 I don't know about this. What is stopping us? Noise restrictions? Not sure I would want to see 1D but the money would be useful..
lgfualol Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Something something ~ loudest the stadium has ever been something something louder fans something something george taft something something
FuriousFox46 Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 There are plans (early ones) to build a multi-purpose entertainment arena in Leicester
hackneyfox Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 I don't know about this. What is stopping us? Noise restrictions? Not sure I would want to see 1D but the money would be useful.. The stadium is poorly built and couldn't take the crowd movement apparently. There are plans (early ones) to build a multi-purpose entertainment arena in Leicester The owners should get involved in this, it would be extra income to help with FFP.
Stadt Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 It always make me laugh that our stadium can't hold concerts because it can't support people jumping up and down!
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 It's ridiculous business sense to have a venue as large as the KP empty all summer. Absolutely ridiculous. I could imagine Kasabian playing the KP and it selling out.
johnny the fox Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Total waste, I would pay big money to see Des O'connor banging it out in front of 32,000 out the power..
Renart Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 The stadium is poorly built and couldn't take the crowd movement apparently. Oh yes, I do remember something about this. Ridiculous! I could imagine Kasabian playing the KP and it selling out. Just what I was thinking.
GingerrrFox Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 It's ridiculous business sense to have a venue as large as the KP empty all summer. Absolutely ridiculous. I could imagine Kasabian playing the KP and it selling out. 2x over. Kasbian could play 2 shows at the KP in the same week and they would both sell out. The fact they are fans of the club as well I imagine they would let the club take a hefty sum of the profits once they've been paid their dues.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Apparently it would only cost a few hundred thousand to get the structural works done, peanuts for the money it would bring in. Perhaps the real problem is more planning permission or legalistic? Let's not forget that the nearby Ricoh Arena is right by a motorway and far from many residential areas.

If the problems are 'legalistic', again, the business plan must have been nonsensical. When designed and planned, those involved should have sought a multi-purpose function for the venue. It could be used for so much more and be a real income generator. Personally, I don't live far from the ground and would love to see bands playing at the KP.
Larry_LCFC Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 It would scare the ducks in the River Soar. They're not used to loud noises coming from the KP.
davieG Posted 21 August 2013 Author Posted 21 August 2013 WE applied for and got planning permission for concerts before but due to the stadium build (not built to meet the requirements of 20,000 people all jumping up and down to the same beat) the numbers were very limited and not considered viable so the permission was never renewed. As Bilo said there was talk of it cost £250k to bring the stadium up to standard to make it viable. I guess in the past with 'us' not owning the stadium there was a reluctance to spend that money now 'we' own it, who knows what they plan. PS my original post was intended to be a jest, do any of you want to go and see these lads?
GingerrrFox Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 I can't imagine the Thai's are overly enthralled with both the standard of the stadium and also the design. I wouldn't be surprised if after a few years in the Premiership they wanted to do a major overhaul.
Bettsj2 Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 I bought a ticket for Status Quo when they were gonna play there. Was well gutted when it got cancelled. Its not just gigs though. They could have boxing, wrestling, MMA. Ring in the middle of the pitch, seating around it at floor level and open the stands. If Rendall Monroe got back to a decent level and had a european title fight there, I reckon that would sell out.
jonthefox Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 £250 grand would be chicken feed if it meant we could stage gigs. Iv'e been to several at the ricoh ,and they must have taken a million in beer alone.

Guest MattP Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 If Rendall Monroe got back to a decent level and had a european title fight there, I reckon that would sell out. Doubt it, he only managed to get 4-5k for a World Title Eliminator in Coventry, was a really poor effort from the people of the City in my opinion, even more so when you think about the history and popularity boxing used to have around the place when Granby Halls hosted and Sibbo was marching. Froch could use it though assuming the Police would allow it as Trent Bridge can't hold him for some reason. Kasabian could sell it twice over as someone said, apart from that the stadium just looks a bit too tatty for most artists to come and play there, much easier to go to the Nottingham or one of the Birmingham arenas. Really have missed the boat on this one.
21st Century Fox Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 We could get AC/DC to play and open with this....
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Yes, I read about this. Apparently there has to be some give in the construction, and the KP is not built to this standard. The decibels are the cause. Welford Road on the other hand is constructed correctly, and could have concerts.
Webbo Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Derby had the Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Pride Park a few years ago and barely broke even, the Tigers lost money on a 2 of concerts a couple years ago. I'm not sure the business case is that compelling, if it was there'd be loads of teams doing it.
davieG Posted 21 August 2013 Author Posted 21 August 2013 Yes, I read about this. Apparently there has to be some give in the construction, and the KP is not built to this standard. The decibels are the cause. Welford Road on the other hand is constructed correctly, and could have concerts. The construction problem is not to do with decibels it's to do with dancing / stroke jumping up and down to the same beat. Because dancing is synchronised it causes the structure to oscillate/vibrate where as football fans tend to do there own thing and any synchronised movements involves much smaller numbers of people for much shorter times. 30,000 all jumping up and down to the same bet would cause the stadium to do this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAXVa__XWZ8
Libertine Dream Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 With the foundations as they are, apparently they could have 14500 for a concert and no more dues to resonance and movement of people. Tim Davies was the one that said it would only cost a few hundred thousand pounds to put right but is the demand really there for another stadium/arena concert venue?
