MooseBreath Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Agreed with v-comp that some of the refereeing was pathetically soft. Always hard for a team used to playing proper football in the premier league to have to adapt to the non-contact version of the sport. The yeti giving away the penalty aside I thought man city deserved at least a draw there.
DennisNedry Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 There goes my quadruple bet. **** you Pellegrini for selecting that useless long haired bastard.
Corky Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Even for Tyldsley and Townsend this is bad. Explaining the terrible Clichy cross. "Well you'll see Clive the ball takes a bobble" *Replay shows the ball taking a bobble well over a second before the ball is crossed before continuing to roll flatly along the floor before Clichy strikes it* Seriously - you're telling me that these are the best 2 guys ITV can get? Really? Townsend almost went into a rant about Pellegrini card-waving (why do our pundits get so upset about imaginary card-waving? ) but held it together.
One Legged Beaver Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 I've got to say I was more interested in my carbonara than the game but from what I saw City can feel aggrieved about the first goal as it definitely looked outside the box, no debate about a red though.
Leicesterpool Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 I think city played too deep and negative for me, they shown to much respect to Barcelona allowing them to play there game.
purpleronnie Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 I think city played too deep and negative for me, they shown to much respect to Barcelona allowing them to play there game. They should have shown the players a dvd of celtic beating barcelona, a bit of passion can go along way, Man city showed very little and deserved nothing.
Dan Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Another showing that our top sides are still not the absolute elite. People blaming Barcelona for their games being boring make me laugh. What are they supposed to do with the opposition packed inside their own half? Lump it up to Messi to flick on? Come on. Man City were definitely the more boring side of the two tonight. Demichelis' foul effectively ended the tie. 50/50 whether it was in or out but they can't really complain seeing as Barcelona had a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out for offside. Thought Alves & Iniesta both had brilliant games. Comfortable win and another learning curve for Man City.

City were boring, to be honest if they want to stand any chance at the Nou Camp they've really got to come out and attack right from the whistle.

There was nothing "50/50" about the foul being in when you seen it on the replays, contact was a yard out. BUT, it happened so quick and neither the ref or Lino were up with play - with Messi landing in the box it was always going to be a penalty.
Guest MattP Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 How the fcuk do people blame Barca for being boring when a 500odd million team shove ten men behind the ball at home? Baffled.

Fact it was a meaningless group game helps though, we saw what happens to Celtic at home in the knock out stages agaisnt Juve when it's competitive and the quality side are desperate to win.

I thought it looked borderline even on replays, there was not a single decent angle they showed it from close up. Then again even if it was 100% wrong, that only cancels out the one that went the other way. The better team won. Fair result.
Dan Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 How the fcuk do people blame Barca for being boring when a 500odd million team shove ten men behind the ball at home? Baffled. Bias. Nothing else. The reason games involving Barcelona & Spain are often 'boring' is because of the opposition more than those sides themselves.

First contact is outside but the actual bringing down/infringement may be in with the pace he is going at. Tricky decision and looked a stonewall pen to everyone full speed.

Just heard that Barcelona are trying to get his red card overturned
Samilktray Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Next time Barcelona are on tele I'm taking Finners' advice and switching over to YouTube videos of Stoke games. Thank you Finners.
AjcW Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 These last few pages lol lol I Had the pleasure of watching Barca live last weekend, incredible experience, the pace is something else when you get to see them at the Camp Nou. They didn't even have to try tonight, nothing to do with being boring, they walked through the game with little or no pressure, hopefully if Man City come out and have a go in the second leg they will be less "Boring"... I paid 20 Euros to watch some of the most incredible, free flowing, entertaining football at the weekend and yet Arsenal and Man Utd play out the most horrific game i've ever seen in my life last week and it's brushed under the carpet with little mention or criticism as their fans who have paid £80 to get in trudge off home in the cold. Even we have to pay £30 most of the time for ****s sake!!! Absolute overpriced bollocks like most things in this country!!
AjcW Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 barcelona are boring What do they have to do let the other team start on 2 goals and take it from there??
ScouseFox Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 What do they have to do let the other team start on 2 goals and take it from there?? just something other than five yard passes would be a start. just doesn't interest or entertain me. fast paced attacks, slick moves etc are good, barca don't do much of that, it's all passing sideways. i've said it before and i'll say it again, i'd much rather watch andy carroll bulldoze into a centre back reach out his neck and power a header than watch xavi pass it to pique pass it to xavi pass it to pique pass it to iniesta pass it to xavi pass it fwfniofnfccan \\\\\\\\\zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Do you remember the CL final where they took United to pieces? That was fast paced bordering on abusive! If you watch them every week, you see what it's all about, if you watch them when they are forced to play against scared teams, tonight is what you are going to get, although i still think both goals (build up to penalty) came from patient build up and a killer ball from a slick move......

Uncle Albert Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 I wouldn't care how boring I set my team up to play if they win games, trophies and break records. Barcelona have comfortably beaten the best attacking team the Premier League has and people are calling them boring? Seriously wonder what some of you lot would do if you were ever in management.
