AjcW Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 just personal preference isn't it mate, i just don't ever remember seeing much by the way of "action" in many barcelona (or spain) games. nothing in and around the goalmouth, nothing to get you out of your seat shouting, nothing at all really except "build up" and eventually you'll probably see an end product if you haven't got bored and turned over. i get the parking the bus thing and it's hard to break down but teams all around the world have other teams come with defensive attitudes and the game is still good to watch, defence v attack in large parts but still exciting. Yeh absolutely personal preference, i've always loved that patient build up and killer pass thing, something about the tension ! Taken just from this weekend. Was so good to see that Live, especially seeing Leo become the highest goalscorer in Spanish history! Neymar's was a belter! Sat just behind that about four rows back. The fourth goal was my Fave though, Iniesta's flick!
ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 I wouldn't care how boring I set my team up to play if they win games, trophies and break records. Barcelona have comfortably beaten the best attacking team the Premier League has and people are calling them boring? Seriously wonder what some of you lot would do if you were ever in management. They're not my team though. I support Leicester. I'd watch Leicester no matter what, whether it was boring, shit, exciting, boss, I have and will watch it all. When I'm a neutral though I'll watch something that entertains me, and 1,000 five yard passes in 90 minutes doesn't. I guess we'll always wonder how I would cope with management.
Dan Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 For what it's worth I find Bayern better to watch than Barcelona.
Guest MattP Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Some footballing dinosaurs in here. No wonder Big Sam and Joe Kinnear can still get jobs in England.
leicsmac Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 The style of Barcas play doesn't actually bother me all that much, though it is a certain amount of funny when it doesn't work and fast direct football shreds them, ala Bayern last year. With the players they have they've chosen a style that obviously works most of the time though, so fair enough. Their arrogance and tapping up of players from other clubs, asking and damn near expecting them to come to the self-styled 'best club in the World' however does. Oh, and their (now thankfully lessened) ties to politics too - dislike Real Madrid for pretty much the same reason (Franco's team). Shouldn't have any place in football.
Finnegan Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Next time Barcelona are on tele I'm taking Finners' advice and switching over to YouTube videos of Stoke games. Thank you Finners. you're welcome bread bin.
AjcW Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 On to tonight then... Are we expecting a Bayern masterclass or an Arsenal surprise? Also think Atletico will ease past AC Milan over the two legs.
ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Gonna be a tough one tonight trying to watch Arsenal, Atletico and watch/listen/follow our game too. I don't have 3 laptops.
Fox92 Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 How can people call Barcelona boring? That's the way football should be. They kept the ball constantly, just knocked it about, made City really work for the ball back. Would love my side to play like that. Not only do they play great football, but they win trophies. It's like some people just think football is all about getting the ball and running forward.
ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Simply because keeping the ball constantly and "just knocking it about" isn't very interesting to watch. That's all. I've not called them shit or said they're a stain on the footballing world or even massively criticised them in any way, simply stated that nearly a thousand five yard passes whilst 40 yards from goal sends me to sleep. Teams playing with pace (not comparing us and Barcelona, but us this season is very entertaining, we try and score every time we have the ball) teams like Bayern, City, Real and so on, who go for it with pace and power, some very nice football but if they work it out wide they put it in the box etc instead of working it backwards are the type of football I enjoy as a neutral. I can't even be arsed arguing it any more, it just doesn't entertain me very much. If that makes me a "dinosaur" or a "bad football manager" () then so be it. I'll cope.

It's like some people just think football is all about getting the ball and running forward. In your opinion. And in that sentence you've hit on why some people don't like Barca - because many believe the way they play is the "only" or "purest" way to play football. They play great football, but there are other styles of play that aren't better or worse - just different - and appreciators of them.
Fox92 Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Fair play I understand that, and yeah I should have put in my opinion. I think it's brilliant, they really make the game look easy. Little triangles and they end up working it into the box, or playing the killer ball, ala when Messi was fouled and for the second goal. They looked better than Manchester City who are labelled as the best team in our top flight/Country. None of this long ball to small striker and we find ourselves defending again.
Samilktray Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 A Fox92 post is the football forum post equivalent of Barcelona.
ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Arsenal/Bayern is on Sky1 according to my tv listings btw, for us that don't pay for Sky Sports.

The goal that was cancelled out last night was a great shame. 30 yards from goal against the best team in England and with just two killer passes inside 2-3 seconds they have a centre half on the ball knocking it into an open goal with the opposition keeper in no mans land. That;s the beauty of the football they play and something that you can only build into a team overs years and years with a football philopshy from a young age, it's football you can't buy.
Jimothy Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Sanogo might be starting up top for Arsenal tonight according to SSN. Not confirmed yet, would be a massive call by Wenger though to start him v Bayern.

isaidno Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Clear penalty and red card , but Robben went down like he'd been shot
ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Obviously the right decision. Dunno why Robben wasn't on the penalty...? Two shocking penalties so far.
Carl the Llama Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 How boring is your life that the only thing you had to do this evening was watch something you dislike for two hours? I can't be the only person that happily puts a game off if it's boring. I foolishly believed it would improve and then it got to the point where I was so far in I may as well see it out. Pretty boring as it happens, by the way, thanks for asking.
Stadt Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 When ever I stop watching a game because it's boring it gets good. Good finish from Kroos
AjcW Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Genuinely just a comment but... What's the difference between the way Bayern are passing/playing now and how Barca played last night?
