ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Genuinely just a comment but... What's the difference between the way Bayern are passing/playing now and how Barca played last night? Arjen Robben
ScouseFox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Arsenal were unlucky but it was a clear red card and penalty. Ozil was absolutely pathetic in everything he did tonight, he was the main difference in the sides. Costa bagged late on for Atleti, great result for them, though they were a bit lucky from what I caught of it. AC could've scored a few, Taarabt impressed me considering how bad he usually is.
Corky Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 You knew Ozil would miss, barely moved in his run up, either too nervous or overconfident.
Guest MattP Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Genuinely just a comment but... What's the difference between the way Bayern are passing/playing now and how Barca played last night? When someone decides to whack ten men behind the ball against a Bayern in a big game and it works, everyone will follow and they will have exactly the same problems Barca have. From what I've read Arsenal did a fair job of it tonight until the red card. Bayern are still new and cool at the minute, they'll be boring in 3 or 4 years.

Arsenal definitely didn't put 10 men behind the ball at any stage. They started quickly, Bayern looked shocked, sluggish and slow for 10 minutes, Arsenal won a penalty and should've took the lead. It was a very end to end game for a bit, think I saw Arsenal completed more passes in the first 15 minutes by some distance. It was set up for a right ding dong but then a piece of magic from Bayern bamboozled every Arsenal defender, keeper brings Robben down and from then on Arsenal were clinging on. Second half was a non-entity, Bayern knocked it around but always looked like trying to score, mainly due to Robben wanting to cut in and shoot, or run at his man and get to the by-line. That, like I said previously, was the difference between tonight and last night. Bayern always wanted to get to the by-line and create a chance, Barca are happy to knock it about 40 yards out. It works most the time. IT'S JUST NOT VERY INTERESTING TO WATCH IN MY OPINION. aaaand lie down.
Guest MattP Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Fair play, I didn't watch the game but I was going from the reports I have just read. Each to their own.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Bayern were brilliant, Kroos absolutely ran the show, saying that the introduction of Lahm into the midfield at half time helped massively. That pass from Lahm.. There's a massive difference in the Bayern from tonight than the Barcelona from last night, Bayern were quicker, more direct and that is exactly how Pep's Barcelona were back in 2010. Very similar. Not that there was anything wrong with Barcelona last night, from my view anyway, was still a very good performance that didn't 'bore' me in the slightest.
Fox92 Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 A Fox92 post is the football forum post equivalent of Barcelona. Entertaining, brilliant and everybody wants to be like that. Samilktray, I never knew you thought of me like that.
Super_horns Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Has an Arsenal player never dived? We know most would have gone down on that red card/penalty situation and you can bet Wenger would be up in arms calling for a red card if that had been roles reversed.
Uncle Albert Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 When Wenger goes on about diving I can't help but think of Eduardo v Celtic..
Bert Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 How can people call Barcelona boring? That's the way football should be. They kept the ball constantly, just knocked it about, made City really work for the ball back. Would love my side to play like that. Not only do they play great football, but they win trophies. It's like some people just think football is all about getting the ball and running forward. Theyre a formidable team. But they play at such a slow tempo. A lot of it is short sideways passing. That's why their passing stats are so great. It's just all very dreary until they get up to Messi who makes the magic happen.
Dan Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 But what are they meant to do when people just sit back against them? They don't really have the tools to be more direct and they've proven with their results that they don't need to be. Didn't see Arsenal/Bayern. Only saw extended highlights and quite honestly it looked like a training session. Shame that both Arsenal and Man City had red cards that effectively ended both ties. Chelsea are the Premier League's only hope of winning it this year and truth be told I'm not even confident they'll hit the Semis.
Zapp Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I usually find the people who find barcas passing game amazing to watch usually want barca to win Same as spain, as a neutral you don't enjoy the game because of the dominance, which I guess in turn makes you want the team making it boring to lose Don't get me wrong Id love Leicester to have that play because of the amount of chances we'd create and possession we enjoy. But for the neutrals and opposing team it really is boring. No other word for it.
AKCJ Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I think Barcelona are fabulous to watch and very entertaining. But English sides are so shit scared of them that they put 11 behind the ball and it just never works. The English sides make the games boring.. Do the Madrid sides put 11 behind the ball when they play them at home in the league? Do they fvck.

I see what you're getting at with the first bit - and I've been guilty of seeing some of our football with rose tinted specs in the past even if the neutral would've seen it as bang average. But it isn't always 'boring' at all. I think Barcelona are fabulous to watch and very entertaining. To me English sides are far too negative in Europe and I still think our top sides aren't the elite. Over-rated league.

Our league is the most entertaining because it's the most competitive but in europe we are a long way from real or barca or bayern even dortmund of the last 2 years. It's just palace or stoke can win a game against the top clubs here. Yet in spain and germany it normally ends up 6-0. Our clubs in europe need to play their game. When man city who have spent what 500million on a squad all of a sudden change to sticking 10 men behind the ball. Trying to match them in midfield. Then what hope is there. They could have gone 2 up top and play midfielders who come inside like silva and nasri to make alba and alves come in to mark them. No instead 1 up top against 1 shit centre half and a spare man to sweep up and give alves and alba space to run as navas was hardly in the game. Plus asking yaya to go back to a side of his game they have spent 2 years changing.

I'd call it entertaining myself. Better than anything the Premier League produces. If I had a neutral with me, then I'd show them Barcelona and tell them this is how you play football, keep the ball and be dominant. It's not all about kicking off and running forward. The short, simple passes in triangles where the opposition cannot get the ball is what I like to watch. Suppose it's what you want from your football. I don't watch European football, the only time I ever see a European team is if they're on tv against an English side or playing the Champions League final, but Manchester City are supposed to be the best team in our Country, and quite frankly, Barcelona made them look average. I'm not sure how any fan can call that dominant game as 'boring', but then again that's just my opinion.

Kolarov and Clichy both starting sums it up to me. They played defensively when they've been up there with the most potent attacking side on the planet. I'm still convinced a lot of the bottom half Spanish/German sides could at least match some of the crap in the bottom half of the Premier League. England still lacks an elite side. This week has proven that.

At the end of the day different people want to watch different things and what entertains them is up to them, but it annoys me when people blame Barcelona for being the bores. They play some exhilarating stuff when they aren't playing against a defensive side - excluding Bayern who wiped their arses with Barca twice.
HEGGSY Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Zenit - Dortmund has been great to watch. 3-2 Dortmund
HEGGSY Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 lol Hulk scores a penalty to make it 3-2 Dortmund kick off, go and make it 4-2 no more than 30 seconds after lol
AKCJ Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 All away wins so far... ! Heres hoping that changes tonight. But Olympiacos will be significantly weakened without Mirtoglou.
