Finnegan Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 I am going off Guardiola. No-one is trying to convince me this Bayern side is as good as that one a year back. The problem is that, whilst it might be new to the likes of Hoffenheim and Mainz, the top clubs in Europe have now had plenty of time to work out the flaws in Guardiola's system. And as good as this Bayern side are, they've nobody as good as Xavi, Iniesta and Messi at breaking through a team set up to spoil. The system is there but the personnel aren't. Jupp made it work by basically copying Dortmund's pressing and intensity. Guardiola's dialled it all back and teams like Real know how to cope with that now.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Lloyd scored against Real Madrid. Bayern Munich haven't scored against Real Madrid. Lloyd > Bayern Munich
ScouseFox Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Didn't they win the Bundesleague (sp ) about 6 weeks ago? i reckon we could've finished second in this year's bundesliga. it's the pits in terms of genuine quality but all the hipsters ignore that because the fans stand and have flags so they just pretend it's good.
AKCJ Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Err, cos they were better under Heynckes? They're 17 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, winning it in record time.

Agree and I think they'll win the league next year - but nowhere near as comprehensively. I can see Madrid going through now. There's no doubting how good Bayern are individually but they're far more suited to the type of football they played under Heynckes. It may develop over time but meh, I think it's been a bit sussed. I think Messi's a big difference too. They're 17 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, winning it in record time. Man Utd won the Premier League very comfortably last year. Was their team last year better than Liverpool of this year?
Bert Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Boring and Dull from both. Bayern passing for the sake of it and in the end, getting nowhere. Typical Guardiola. Pleased people are finally seeing past the passing stats and that Guardiola isn't all that.
One Legged Beaver Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Bayern's persistant two touch football may work against the lower echelons of the Bundesliga, but against decent opposition they are one of the most toothless teams around. They look to have regressed a fair amount from the dynamic and fast paced team that stormed the Champion's League last year.

Behave, the pits. It's taken a step back this year - Leverkusen really fell off in terms of form and Dortmund got perilously, hideously unlucky with injuries but the quality's still quite clearly there. It's a fairly entertaining league that - one team having a freak season aside - is fairly competitive, draws good crowds (that are well looked after) and is largely full of financially well managed clubs. I don't really see what's to dislike unless you're being contrary to popular opinion purely for the sakes of being oh-so "non-conformist". Wait... that'd make you... a bit of a hipster wouldn't it? Boring and Dull from both. Bayern passing for the sake of it and in the end, getting nowhere. Typical Guardiola. Pleased people are finally seeing past the passing stats and that Guardiola isn't all that. In entertainment terms, possibly. But I'm sorry, his Barcelona side at the peak of their swagger were just immense and his trophy cabinet speaks for him.
Dan Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 I said it when Barcelona won at Man City and I'll say it again but blame the boredom on the way it's countered.
Grandad. Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Guardiola has taken Bayern backwards, they have lost that spark they had last season. The Bayern side of last season would of beaten Real tonight, personally thought Real were there for the taking tonight and yet they've come away from the game with nothing. At least Jose got the clean sheet in his sides boring style.. Winning the Bundesliga quicker than last year is hardly anything to be raving about and people should not be defending that piss poor League, it is basically like Celtic bragging about winning the SPL, it was that obvious they were going to win the League. Don't anyone come at me with Borussia Dortmund either, they haven't been the same side. I agree with Finners as well, at Barcelona Guardiola had special players playing to his style, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta are special players, players we won't see again in the same side for a long time, them three are THAT good.. Serious question, do Bayern currently have any special players? Robben and Ribery are world class but they aren't in the bracket of the other three were on their peaks, not a chance. Bayern really do have it all to do now because if they try and football Real to death like they did v Arsenal and Man United and it doesn't work then Real will comeback and bite them on the arse, they will hit them on the counter attack with pace and real quality. Right now Real Madrid are probably the best side on the counter attack in world football.

Me and you could've coached that side to the success they achieved, that's how good they were. Just don't think he's all what he's made out to be. Both clubs he's managed he's managed them when the teams have been at their peaks. Would like to see him do the same with someone like Man Utd (in their current state), then we would see how good he really is.
Webbo Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 If we could find the equivalent thread from last season there'd be dozens on there telling us how superior German football is and how it's going to dominate European football for years. Now after 1narrow defeat its now the same level as the SPL. People were OTT then and they're OTT now.

Now after 1narrow defeat its now the same level as the SPL. People were OTT then and they're OTT now. We surely have to differentiate here. Besides, Bayern don't represent the rest of the Bundesliga. Can we just say based on this year's CL and EL results that they're more or less on par?

Webbo's post is spot on too. They're never going to dominate European football when the game is revolved around money and German football largely isn't. I can see Real winning the away leg too if Ronaldo actually turns up (anonymous last night bar his miss).
Guest MattP Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 For a clearly intelligent bloke you don't half post some garbage. Have a word with yourself. Just checking but to make sure I actually wouldn'trrather die of aids than watch a football match.

Yeah, completely agree they are world class players but they aren't special footballers, there is a difference. There are 4 maybe 5 special players in world football, Ronaldo, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and maybe Zlatan can fall into that bracket.
Finnegan Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 No Suarez? Lofty, that's very restrained from you!
Stadt Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 Yeah, completely agree they are world class players but they aren't special footballers, there is a difference. Grandad. Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 No Suarez? Lofty, that's very restrained from you! Haha, to me Suarez is a very special player, maybe another season of this and he would go into that category but for the minute he is just in the world class bracket. Outside of that group the first names that you'd think of would be Robben and Ribery and I'd say they're special players Yeah, in my previous post I said Robben and Ribery are the world class players for Bayern but I wouldn't really say they are special footballers, that is just me though.
Finnegan Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 Outside of that group the first names that you'd think of would be Robben and Ribery and I'd say they're special players Actually the first name that springs to mind for me, in the context of unlocking defenses, is David Silva.

I have never once said German football would dominate Europe, if you think Bayern winning the Bundesliga isn't the same as Celtic winning the SPL then that's your opinion but it isn't a great League and I don't think winning the title at the start of April is anything to be bragging about.
Stadt Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 Actually the first name that springs to mind for me, in the context of unlocking defenses, is David Silva.Yeah he's another but how do you really define 'special'? Hazard on his day is special, is Agüero special or is he 'just' world class? Is Bale a 'special' player?(Wales bias aside)
Finnegan Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 Wales bias aside, Bale is probably the best player in the history of the sport.
Grandad. Posted 24 April 2014 Posted 24 April 2014 Yeah he's another but how do you really define 'special'? Hazard on his day is special, is Agüero special or is he 'just' world class? Is Bale a 'special' player?(Wales bias aside) Hazard isn't special on his day, he is just showing signs of world class on his day. Nobody else bar the 5 names I have mentioned are special footballers, sorry just stop naming players. There is a fine line between knowing who are special footballers and world class ones. Suarez is the best player in the Premier League, probably side by side with Yaya and David Silva but none of them three are special.
