Cornerflag Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Morning, This is my first time here, as a new season ticket holder. Great game last night. I was particularly impressed by the understanding that has developed between Wes, Liam and KS at the back. Rovers deserved the penalty (not sure we did), but that was all they were going to get; they never looked like scoring from open play. At times, City were just scintilating! Onward, and upward!

Manwell Pablo Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 That's part of it Poaky. The other part is the lack of any real excitement or positivity coming out of the club, no positive reaction from the players or management, seemingly just a grim determination to 'work hard' and 'do better'. I'm not suggesting that we go over the top, we have all seen that of course, but really, do we have to be quite this grim? I think it does. You don't get promoted in September. I think we all learnt this last season which is probably another reason for the reality check.
artursteppe Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Blackburn are a much better side than Wigan. They have the ability to change formations and they do work the ball quite quickly. Wigan are big, slow and pedantic. Our performance against Blackburn was very good. Yes, there was an outside chance that Blackburn could have equalised, similarly we could have won by four or five. Our performance against Wigan was professional, and as good as it needed to be.
Cornerflag Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I enjoyed Nugent's comments about chicken korma last night. Lovely! Do you think Wesilewski will appear on Saturday, or is the Derby game more likely?
harpendenfox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I have to say I hope we've banked the cheque from Blackburn for Marshall. He looked totally anonymous last night. I almost felt sorry for him as he seems to have suffered a complete and utter loss of form and confidence. That said, relieved he didn't score a worldie against us as so many of us feared.

At times I was wondering that too. I felt his welcome was more sympathetic than anything else, the poor mite!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 "Pearson Out!" - You know who you are. Please justify yourselves. I'm sure you won't bottle it? I have said we should all give Pearson until Xmas, to see how things are going, and so far so good. The season is going to be a long one, and I just hope we will be up there come the end. My views were validated last season, when we failed to get promoted. Fingers crossed we shall do it this season, but bear in mind that disastrous run of 15 matches.last season. Come on City.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I kind of agree Col. It's just that going top, even at this stage of the season should generate some excitement, some pleasure, but it's not........ There is still a feeling that we will be 'mid table by Christmas' about it all...... I simply think that's because being top now literally means very little Dave. We've all seen what can happen over the course of a season so I think it's sensible to keep it calm. And that's what most people are doing. If we are top by next Easter, then we can all get VERY excited..
pazzerfox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 How did Ben Marshall play? I have to say I hope we've banked the cheque from Blackburn for Marshall. leicesterseddon Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 A tidy performance against a poor side. Not the greatest match in the world to watch, but a good win nonetheless. Blackpool on the weekend will be interesting. We've played well at home in the last 2 games because we've set up more offensively from the start, with two forwards and two wingers. I'll be very disappointed if Pearson reverts to type and tries to set up defensively away from home, but we'll wait and see.

Taffydag Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 I'm enjoying the fact that we are playing well enough to win games quite comfortably at the moment, especially if we put away a couple more of the very good chances that we have been creating, my only worry is that, whilst Vardy is playing very well, if he keeps missing the type of chances that he had last night that he will lose confidence and become the player of last season again.
ADK Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Blackpool is a shorter and rougher pitch and we are playing away from home. I'm not sure it's clear cut which formation to play.
Burmesefox Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 sublime first 20 mins - we dominated patches and really a 4-0 scoreline would not have flattered us. Vardy was a giant last night and shut everything down - he defended from the front and if we keep playing this higher tempo we'll do well. Most players played very well and the back 4 were tidy and strong once again. Great performance and I feel we are getting stronger and growing as time goes by. I am sure we haven't seen the best of us yet and once we start being more clinical in the final third we will spank a few sides this season. All in all I think we'll finish 5th this season.
Bettsj2 Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 If we play 4-4-2 and attack, we're likely to get beaten. As well as we've played the last two games and as dangerous as we've looked, you cannot play that way in every game. We tried last season and were found out. I'm suprised how short some peoples memories are. Attacking a team away from home on a crap pitch who are in decent form (last night excepted) is in my opinion suicide. I'd be happy to see us go 4-4-2 and hammer them but I dont think it will happen. Our best chance against them is to be smart unlike how we were for several games last year. Play a 3-5-2 with Marcin, Wes and Moore with a midfield 3 of Hammond, King and Drinky. Look to contain but break with pace. If we concede then look to attack not the other way around. We've been using the different formations for a reason and this is a game we should be looking to utilise.

I felt we were patient where we had to be and kept the ball then tried to break through when gaps appeared in a stubborn Blackburn defence. Then when they had the ball we get numbers back much quicker, helped by Dyer and Knocky getting back to help the fullbacks. Pus always helps with Nuge and Vardy defending from the front
yorkie1999 Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Great result, but why can't they just make midweek games a fiver. I know its been said a million times before and people reckon it would annoy season ticket holders, but i'm a sth and it wouldn't bother me at all. Anything just to fill the ground and not have empty seats everywhere.

I can certainly see an argument for 4-3-3 with Dyer or Knockaert dropping out for James or Hammond. Harsh on either of those 2, but we could do with a more solid core.
Bert Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 People also need to realise that we lost before playing our two best games this season, so don't automatically assume that Blackpool will be poor. Tough game.
Kitchandro Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Being top at this point doesn't mean an awful lot, but it is nice. There wasn't that much enthusiasm at the ground last year when we went top either IMO. Whether that's because it's too early I don't know, but fans are bound to feel more cautious after last season's collapse. And that was from February onwards, not September. The thing I'm most pleased about is the performance. Top or not, we showed some real promise and that is what I look for at this stage of the season. Play like that regularly and we're good enough to beat anyone.
ARM1968 Posted 18 September 2013 Posted 18 September 2013 Said in the match thread I'd take a win, but didn't think we'd slaughter them. I was right, which is a bit unusual. Decent performance. Should have been more goals in it from us. But a win is a win. I'll take 2-1 to us all season long.
