Makes you laugh. Good on the ball, technically class, can create something out of nothing. Of course he has flaws but who doesn't?

I don't know why some fans seem to enjoy getting on players backs so much.

come on Bert surely you can't stick up for him? Yes he's had some good games but he's certainly had more bad games than good.

Yes it's not his fault the club gave him a massive wage but you can't fault anybody for wanting him gone. He's not good enough and is stealing living and we need him off the wage bill

At the time he was being made a scapegoat, he was in the team though. Fans just seemed to turn on him for no reason! Both parties have seemingly moved on now but there was a lot of unfair stick aimed his way at times.

It's so frustrating to see the stick a decent servant of the club gets on here.

hahahahahahaha hahahahahahaha hahaha haha ahhh @ people's use of the word 'servant'.

I'd say he's definitely had more good games for us than bad. Trouble is that it's not the 'in' thing to be positive about a player who's now passed his best at our level. It's not his fault that he can't find a club to match the contract that ours freely offered him, it's also almost certainly not svens fault either, as I'm sure he didn't get involved in contract negotiation. Someone stupidly offered too much for too long, and without any first team appearance clauses to trigger changes. I think he will go at the end of the season, negotiate a release, but he's been astute enough to remain with us and reap the benefit of the contract as he comes towards to the end of his career as a player. Can any of us say that we wouldn't have done the same? Would we have taken a potentially massive cut in wages, jeopardising 2 years of a lucrative contract for something substantially less in order to play at a lower level? All he's done is fulfil his obligations, remained professional, trained and stayed fit.

He was very good when we were controlling a game, however went missing when we had to scrap it out with the opposition. Think our style of play at present doesn't suite him - he's not got the pace or energy for the high tempo game which makes us effective, which is a pity because he certainly has the technical ability. You look at the team at present and they are all grafters, even Knockaert tries really hard to get the ball back. A good player 3 years ago, but a bit like Wellens, Howard etc, in so much as the game has changed and they're not up to the pace anymore.

Bert......

I have nothing against Gallagher, the person. I don't know him, but have heard he's a great bloke to have around. What I (and I suspect many?) do have issue with actually is his contract. You probably know better than me, but isn't Gally meant to be on pretty big bucks until 2015?

For a player who is EXACTLY LIKE what MGLCFC above is saying, this doesn't represent value for money.

Of course, this isn't Gally's fault... I'd have snapped it up too if offered to me. Again, it shows just what an absolute fookin nonsense of a sham the whole Sven project was (backed by the Board, of course). Personally, I wouldn't have renewed Gally's contract, let alone increased it.

I think some of the hostility toward him represents people's feeling that he's pretty much a bang average player, sitting in the reserves, going out on loan, but still being probably (I don't know figures of course) paid far too much. This does kinda pinch, particularly at a time where 'value for money' is being sought both by FFP and by Joe Public.

That's my take on it anyway.

Because he was usually shit.

My main issue with him besides one of his sloppy performances is his want to stay. I can't see any other reason for that than the money. He was completely frozen out multiple times (hasn't had a look for pretty much 2 years now bar some subs appearances) and has been booed by his own fans. That for me is every cue a player needs to clear off. No first team football and not appreciated. So why does he stay... He wants his mega contract. His time was up a long time ago.

Apparently, according to Shakespeare, he was working very hard in training to get back in the side. But we had better players and he didn't get much of a look-in. Maybe he wanted to go but the right move didn't turn up until Preston came along?

He wasn't a genius, he wasn't a flop. Somewhere in the middle, with some great performances and goals and some awful games. Didn't deserve to be booed on to the pitch by our fans though, moronic practice. His time is up now and he's better off elsewhere, we've replaced him with improvements so suits all parties.

Gally's a classy player, not quite good enough for us and doesn't fit in with the style of football we play (pace). Wish him well. Not his fault Sven gave him a ridiculous deal.

I was at the Carlisle-PNE game - I was with the Carlisle supporting in-laws over Christmas, so saw him play. He was on for about 80 minutes and it was one of his typical performances - a few good long range shots, got himself into space, but never fought for the ball, and was anonymous for too many periods during the game (sound familiar?). He actually looks OK with with a reasonable League 1 team and think he's found the right level, and I'm sure we won't see him play for us again.
