Leicester chippys

Ever since Walnut Street chippy closed, I have been in disarray searching for a chippy in Leicester that has gravy.

Went to Marios chippy on braunstone gate but no luck?

Can't you make some up at home, or do you want it on the go?

On a slightly less related note, I reheated some fish I got from the chippy last night. It's fantastic.

Peasant.

Jeremy Kyle and Proud.

I could make it myself but that takes the fun out of it.

It isn't a real chippy if it doesnt serve gravy in my opinion.

I don't think I've not came across a chip shop that doesn't sell gravy.

Blaby chip shop is my regular haunt, bloody lovely and much better than The Ocean where I used to go.

My mate and I were offered something in Mario's many years ago that I think the proprietor actually described as 'special stuff'.

We made our excuses and left (with the chips, of course)

Gentlemans relish?

I've just moved into Leicester and Mario's is the closest, are there any better ones within walking distance?

There's one on Fosse Road North opposite the Tesco which is just over 5 minutes away from Mario's.

Mario's used to be fantastic as well. Bucks chippy is fairly decent but for me it's a close call between Grimsby Fisheries and Millenium Fish bar on Saffron lane.

Bucks isn't bad, certainly the best I've had near the centre of the city.

Rothley is still my favourite, we are struggling for decent chippys around here though.

Musson Rd shop in New Parks used to be great when big Nigel had it, always had a queue which is generally a good sign.

Musson Rd chippy was a rare treat when I was a kid, though sometimes we used to go a bit further away to the Dominion Rd one.

I never liked the Dominion Road one, always far too soggy.

Was this around the time that Hilary Briss worked there?

If you ever have the misfortune to find yourself in grantham, then the finest chips in town are to be found in the relax fish bar.

Leicestershire-wise, I've been going to today's catch in syston for nearly 30 years because they make lovely chips, but not a patch on the relax.

None down here sell it, it's a Northern thing you see ;)

All of this is factually accurate, MattP is a big lad as well so he knows his food.

Rothley is the bollocks, I miss it. I go to Bucks at work, that's okay but it suffers the same as the Grimbo does really - it gets too busy at peak times so they rush the chips and they're not soggy / greasy enough. :(

11 to 15 stone from age 20 to 30.

Doesn't bode well for my 40th...

I thought all chippies round here did gravy?

I don't understand all the Rothley bumming. I've never been blown away by that place.

Today's Catch is my occasional Friday lunchtime treat - bloody good chips.
