Freeman's Wharfer Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 "We need more than an 18,000 capacity" and "Loftus Road is renowned for its atmosphere".... really?! This stadium and current ownership will be the making or breaking of them. With the money they've squandered over the last few years they'd better hope they get up either this year or next, and actually stay there. If not, then it's going to be a bleak future with a wage bill, stadium and debt that is way too big for them.
purpleronnie Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 24,000 new homes blimey let's just hope they don't find any newts.
Guest MattP Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 blimey let's just hope they don't find any newts. Or Romanians.
Itsthejoeker Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Maybe they're expecting that building these new homes alongside their stadium is going to fill it?
purpleronnie Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Or Romanians. They'll be plenty of them, 100million according to The Daily Mail.
Harry - LCFC Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 They don't sell out Loftus Road every week. Getting a stadium of double the capacity would seem to be a sensible decision then.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Highest attendance this season was 17,626 against Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the season in August...
purpleronnie Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 New stadiums always seem to produce a dramatic increase in attendances, and they may well become a premiership club so I can see why they planned a large stadium. Plus its a multi purpose stadium too. I think we get hung up about filling every seat in the stadium which doesn't seem to be that much of a concern in other countries.
Kitchandro Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 I know they're in London but come on, this is fvcking QPR we're on about. I can also see where purpleronnie is coming from but within 5 years they'll be back to 15K attendances in the 2nd tier. Even in the top tier they wouldn't average more than 25K after a few seasons.
Dan Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 It really does astound me how deluded so many in football are and then people wonder why a lot of things never work out. Fernandes should be booted out.
GingerrrFox Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Fernandes wants to do a Fulham and get half of their crowd to be tourists and fair-weather fans with disposable income. That's why he is banking on Premier League football.
Mack Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Fernandes wants to do a Fulham and get half of their crowd to be tourists and fair-weather fans with disposable income. That's why he is banking on Premier League football. And it's not only Foolham, who by the way were getting crowds of 4000 odd in the 4th division. Take Chelsea for example, there's a couple of streets around Stamford Bridge where you can find double decker coaches with signs on the front ... Copenhagen Chelsea fan club... Oslo Chelsea supporters etc etc as far as the eye can see. The scope for Football tourism in London is very large, and given QPR's proximity to the central area I'm sure they could gain quite a few casual tourists at each game. Then of course they could buy the odd Eastern European player and that would add to the gates, when they had Park playing for them a couple of season's back albeit he was utter dog shit the amount of Koreans turning up at Loftus road was very noticeable. I also saw that Brentford are trying to get a new stadium in the near future, now that really would be a folly.
notnow john Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 II can remember Redknap saying very similar things at the proposal for a state of the art stadium at------- Portsmouth!
AndWhat? Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Almost as funny as Plymouth getting a 45 thousand seater stadium if we'd have got the World Cup!
Fox92 Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Does he think they are bigger than what they are? 40,000 is ridiculous, unless he thinks big things are going to happen! I love Loftus Road as well, great away day.
Corky Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 40k is overambitious, I just hope it's not another bowl and it stands out a bit.
Stadt Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 It would start in 20 years time, by then QPR might not even exist if they financially implode now.

Stadt Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Isn't that the railway link. Perhaps being in London they think there could be demand for alternative uses. Yeah it's the redevelopment of the area which starts in 2043, and that would be in 30 years anyway - they would start work on the ground in 2015.
MC Prussian Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 First, they're the big spenders and have dished out so much money signing talent left and right. Now they want a new stadium? How the fück are they're going to pay for it? It's going to cost them another £30, 40 Million. Having said that, Loftus Road is one of the ugliest sardine boxes in the league.

Loftus Road is good old fashioned atmospheric stadium, and about the right size for a club like them. Not to mention it's a good away end.
