Sharpe's Fox Posted 21 December 2013 Posted 21 December 2013 He isn't great at right back but I would like to say how good it is to have a big b*stard nutcase back at Leicester City.
MC Prussian Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Could've /should've seen a card for the elbow against Benayoun yesterday. A proper liability at RB, still too hot-headed and reckless in one-on-ones, needs to be pulled away from that position. Centre-back is where he's at.

EnglishOxide Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 That was not an elbow. He was strongly shielding the ball (unless you are referring to a different incident out the area).
MC Prussian Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Are you serious? Elbow? Have you seen it? I only saw the replay. It looked like an elbow at first. But I guess he was pushing Benayoun back whilst shielding the ball.
Bettsj2 Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 I only saw the replay. It looked like an elbow at first. But I guess he was pushing Benayoun back whilst shielding the ball. Nowhere near an elbow. He put his body between player and ball and Benayoun ran into his shoulder. Anyone suggesting otherwise clearly hasnt seen it.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Love the irony of this post and your name. Where is the irony?
Out Foxed Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Nowhere near an elbow. yes it was. it was the patented was forearm. so near an elbow.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 yes it was. it was the patented was forearm. so near an elbow. Benayoun ran into his back. Then (mentally) Wasyl threw his arm out, which didn't touch Benayoun (but possibly only because he was on his way down already).

A proper liability at RB, still too hot-headed and reckless in one-on-ones, needs to be pulled away from that position. Centre-back is where he's at. I remember him shielding to balls out, the one in the box and the one in the corner. Card for either would be a new level of soft.
Bettsj2 Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 I remember him shielding to balls out, the one in the box and the one in the corner. Card for either would be a new level of soft. THIS. Why Was has turned into Public Enemy No 1 for some is baffling. Especially when we've been crying about being too soft for the last 15 years. He's a good, solid defender. Better at centre back than right back but still more than capable at the latter.
reynard Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 There needs to be a bit of a reality check here. First up he's not crap at right back. John Curtis was what I mean by crap at right back. It is definitely not his best position but other than De laet we currently don't have another true right back. I would say he's slightly better than Moore at right back but it is close. He's very decent in the air and some of his passing out of defence is far and away better than anything Morgan or Moore can manage. His problem really lies in his lack of pace and the fact that he can have the odd reckless moment. Then so could Steve Walsh! He need to stay on his feet more than he does and keep his elbows down a bit but at his age you're not going to change the physical natue of his game. He's a more than adequate squad member and it is good to have him as back up for the defensive positions. just think we could have Whitbread or SSL playing instead! He's an experienced pro and this should be a useful attribute as the season goes on. We fell apart last season so I'm hoping that having characters like him around the place will help us this season.
Jace Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Always good to have a maniac in and around the squad. We haven't had one for a while so hopefully it does us good. This for me.
Frost Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Yep. Its pathetic. He hasnt cost us a goal yet has he? Do you ever bother watching us?

I don't consider Wasilewski a bad footballer, just a very poor right-back. And in my eyes, Pearson putting him into the starting eleven in consecutive games would have to take a part of that blame. Putting in a cracking tackle or two a game is nothing to be ashamed of. However, I would help Wasilewski tremendously if his efforts had a better timing and precision to them. All too often, he looks helpless, slow and exposed when being forced to play out wide.
Kitchandro Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 You would rather give a goal away by bottling a tackle?? You probably consider someone like Andy King a legend over say Steve Walsh. We've got too many bottlers in the side, nice to have a bit of a 'Twat' for a change. If the player is in our box I'd rather our defenders not try and hack the player down, yeh. Sometimes it's better just to jockey them and get your body between them and the goal. What he did yesterday was just insane and it's summed him up so far.
Kitchandro Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 You don't play for a half decent European country 60+ times if you are sh*t. Love the blokes commitment, his organisation on the field and how he physically bosses players. Having said that, he's a better centre half than right back. I can assure you it's happened many, many times. Besides Poland haven't qualified for a tournament since....when? They're about on a par with Scotland. Some the reasons people have for liking him are rather strange. 'He's a beast', 'he's Polish', 'he's scary', 'he's a hard man', 'he has 60+ caps'. This isn't WWE or the world's strongest man, it's football. He has strength, fine. The other stuff, I'm not sure is relevant. I haven't seen much football ability yet, nor brain power or even positional sense. Can we at least be objective if we're judging him? We'll see if he turns out to be any good. But so far he's not been brilliant.
Kitchandro Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Yep. Its pathetic. He hasnt cost us a goal yet has he? He is class and we should be glad that our back four looks so strong. If Moore or Morgan get injured we have Was and Miquel to fall back on. Yes he might not be as quick as he used to be and one or two challenges might be rash but he is a well capped international. We havent even seen him have a run of games yet. Several!
Kitchandro Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 And is he the only one? What ever? No. You asked the question though. He's probably cost us more goals than anyone else in recent games.
Rasmic123 Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 The people who are saying he isn't a poor right back clearly didnt see him against sheffield wednesday
inckley fox Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 THIS. Why Was has turned into Public Enemy No 1 for some is baffling. Especially when we've been crying about being too soft for the last 15 years. He's a good, solid defender. Better at centre back than right back but still more than capable at the latter. I agree. He wasn't excellent yesterday, nor in his last start or two, but on balance he's done very well for us. There have been various instances over recent years when people have come into the team, done a good job and then had a couple of stinkers and been dismissed as horse crap by everyone. Schlupp at left back is an example, Moore at the beginning of last season, Wasilewski now. On the other hand St Ledger, King and Nugent can be lacklustre and ineffective for weeks on end, then finally put in a single solitary shift and be instantly idolised. The tendency among some is to be furiously critical or rapturously in love with our players, rather than realistic. Wasilewski has a shaky 15 minutes, and has been poor in his last couple of starts, but he's also played very well for us at times and certainly seems to give us something we've lacked in recent years. He's neither a world class machine in defence, nor is he a total bombscare.

But so far he's not been brilliant. Euro 2008, WC 2006, WC 2002 in the last 12 years - or 3 tournaments out of a possible 5 If you think Poland are as shit as scotland then you clearly pay no attention to world football.
MGLCFC Posted 22 December 2013 Posted 22 December 2013 Kitchenardo - not sure where you can say no footballing ability - some of his passing out of defence has been excellent and he has twice now started attacks from defence that have led to goal. Secondly, I think if you look at the FIFA rankings Poland are somewhat stronger than Scotland. They've reached 3 of the last 5 major Tournaments and have some talented players, including Levendowski
LCCFox96 Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 I think he is a classy experienced pro which supplements the squad nicely. I think the odd reckless, tough challenge is part of his game - I mean he is a man mountain tbf is we can expect nothing less. However I do think he was slightly lucky at QPR with he challenge on benayoun. Not the first time either - James Vaughan. He needs to be careful but he is adapting and getting up to fitness well.
