Going top...and staying top

Recommended Posts

Am I right in thinking whenever we've gone top over the last 2 seasons, we've instantly surrendered it by the end of the next game? I know it happened this season but i'm sure it did last year too. Obviously we plummeted down the league after xmas anyway.

Hence, I think the Bolton game is massive - we need to cope with being top and look to pull away rather than worry about those below us. Is this a psychological weakness we have?!?!?!?

If we beat bolton we will still be top, repeat that in the next game and we will be top. That's how the league works I think.

It's not that simple in motivational/confidence terms you twit.  Not to mention injuries and suspensions etc.

Is that how it works? Bollocks. I've been doing it wrong for so long!

Not the funniest thing i've ever read.

My point is there seems to be an issue with staying top once we get there - a pretty big issue if we're serious promotion contenders...

We've failed to take opportunities to consolidate our position at the top of the table enough times over the past couple of years for it to be a bit of a concern for me.

Obviously it's one of those 'good problems' in as much as you have to be doing well to be in that position in the first place. But the way we've fallen apart after going top worries me because it seems like we've got a bit of a small time mentality, it's like we don't think we deserve to be there, and start losing almost apologetically.

We need to get over this problem if we're going to finish in the autos, and here we are with another chance to do just that. I want to see the kind of confident, assured performances that being top warrants, not another return of the shrinking violets.

Thing is, we've bounced back after the Sheff W and Brighton losses, something we didn't do last season. Believe you me this side has character and we will beat Bolton and Millwall handsomely

We had 2 losses and particuly away at Brighton we looked crap. However weve bounced back with 7 points vs 3 of the best few teams in the league. We have showed that people who said 'wait till the play the big boys before saying anything' have been kept quiet.

Maybe we should all just get behind our team and realise if we dont change much we will go up..People seem to want things changed all the time..managers, players etc..how many times over the years have we done this and nothing has ever came of it. In fact last time we got promoted we 'couldnt' change anything and what happened that season as well?

People dont realise football is a 'team' game..learning how each other play and sticking to it will get more consistency.

We change and get a boner over players like Migeul and Was and look what happens? Go back to old faithful Moore & De Laet = 2 clean sheets in 2 games.

Last season replaced Vardy for being 'poor' Wood comes in and look what happened?

it isnt greener on the other side...

The starting line up for QPR was the first time I said before the game..Correct team Id play exactly...2 clean sheets and 2 wins against 2 tough teams proves this. Same team again and we'll beat Bolton..

It is that simple, being top brings motivation and confidence, with suspensions and injuries, every team gets them, some of the players on the bench will likely be hoping we get an injurie or suspension in there position so they can have a crack at being in a winning team and leaving there mark on the team,

Though our squad isn't massive,Pearson has a bench that don't appear to be sulking but eager to get on the pitch to try and contribute to our successfull season we are having.

You are wrong, we went top and stayed top at one point last year.

This bottling it when top thing is a load of crap. We've managed to lose games you'd expect us to win when top and when not. So have the others around us.

I always knew we would do well against the top teams we always have in recent seasons. This is why we have reached 2 cup quarter finals in Pearsons 2nd spell so far, we are much better when teams come and attack us rather than sit back and hit us with the counter attack that is when we are at are worst. If we go up this season I believe under Pearson we would have a great chance in staying up.

I think , we need to realise that we are a good side. We have flirted with promotion for the last two years....

Take each game as it comes ? That's one at a time .

Nothing was won in Dec,Jan or march etc it's May where we need to be up there ?

Lets as fans not get to big for our boots ,and start coming over all billy big bollocks as that's what we do?

Let's keep supporting in our numbers, and not put pressure on the lads .There are no easy games in this league......!

We all know what happened last year?

In all fairness, it's not just us that are doing it this season. I don't think a team has been top for any longer than 2 or 3 games. Again just showing how tough this league can be

Unfortunately, that's not how Leicester City FC work (as we've seen this season and in previous seasons when we were in 1st place from time to time).

The team needs to up its game for the second half of the season, and by that I mean playing like a title contender. Bossing games, so to speak.

They need to make sure they can handle the pressure of being on top and not let it slip away again.

Exactly - basically my point in the OP although some seem to have misunderstood it!

We've not stayed top for long in the Championship and even when we've reached that height we've not seemed to know whether to stick or twist in terms of our approach, even going back to the time we got promotion from Division One and looked anything but convincing much of the time.

This time we're a better unit, Pearson and the team should be older and wiser and we seem to have weathered the sort of results squall which saw us foundering for too long last season.

The division hardly seems outstanding, there's lots of teams will be taking vital points off one another so maybe, just maybe, the situation is finally made for us to reach the Premiership through the laudable qualities of working hard and being consistently difficult to beat.

Even our wasting of chances thus far may offer a positive in that surely, we can improve on our success ratio if we attend to some of the details already mentioned by various posters and improve the squad a little during the transfer window in areas that seem to be more or less universally agreed.
