Standing in L1 to come to an end?

Recommended Posts

Maybe they are making L1 to sit down next season because they are bring standing into the KOP. yes I may be dreaming.

Or talking nonsense.

There was rumours they were going to try and do this a few seasons back. It simply won't happen. They don't have enough stewards, time and policing to make this happen.

I'm sure everyone ejected would then be arrested? Surely there won't be the time and numbers.

No chance, unfortunately.  :(

No law against standing, so you can't be arrested for it, so sit down then stand up again.

To be honest im more interested in what happens on the field than off it

No wonder the atmosphere is sh1t, if some people share the same opinion as you.

Pretty sure it's against stadium regulations?

I would imagine a stadium can have any rules it wants, but you can't be arrested for standing as there's no law.

I think stadium rules are only against constant standing, so if you sit then stand again it's ok.

But what I'm saying is, if you were ejected for persistent standing (doesn't matter if you sit down then stand you'd still be persistently standing, just not constant) is the fact that you've been ejected an arrestable offence?

No. There has to he something attached to it to become arrestable. To be honest though, most ejections result in some argy bargy and foul language which is an arrestable offence so most do get initially arrested but then released once they've calmed down without a charge.

Many could see this coming. Its not anyone in particular to blame but there has been so many with a confrontational attitude in other sections of the groud that will possibly mean this gets forced through.

Literally every game i've been to in the past couple of years, i've heard someone standing say to a steward 'tell them to fvcking sit down then' whilst pointing at L1. When the stewards meet this would be discussed and it does put them in an awkward positon where the only solution is to enforce the grounds no standing policy completely.

It will be an absolute travesty if it happens but I wouldnt be at all shocked if it did.

My understanding is you will be asked to sit down via the Stadium announcer

You will be reminded that it says in the T&C's of your ticket that standing is not permitted.

All "offenders" will be recognised via CCTV - in effect the seat number rather than an individual. This can be used as evidence to prove you were standing and therefore not complying with the rules of your ticket.

Your ticket will then not work for the next fixture and you won't gain access to the stadium. Presumably persistent offenders will have their tickets blocked on a permanent basis but not not sure if you will get your money back.

This way there is no need for the Stewards or Police to get involved on a match day as persistent offenders won't be in the ground after about 3 or 4 games.

Please do not shoot the messenger as only got this second hand - first impression was it was a load of bollox but stopping entry in the first place would make sense from a match day stewarding point of view where getting hundreds of people to sit down would be a nightmare / impossibility

I've only been in L1/K1 once and there's no way standing caused any trouble! It creates an atmosphere and is a good laugh for all! If they see this through turn they're killing the club

If the club have been threatened with a revoke of the safety certificate then they would have no choice.

Chucking out a few hundred in l block is cheaper than a closed ground.

they have made similar threats at filbo and several times at the kp.

but I would imagine that eventually they are gonna have no choice. Councillors can be right miserable ****ers believe me.

when has a ground ever been closed due to standing though?  Plenty of clubs talk about these things but fans still stand and nothing happens.

I agree with your last bit. However, and I'm not easily told what to do by stewards, if they really mean what they say of course theyll put an end to it. Leeds away there's that Hitler style woman steward. Anyone not doing what she said was handed over to the cops. To think you can disobey them 100% and 100% of the time just shows your age

If everyone remained standing they'd have no chance.

If they shut the block, however...

The guys at the back have nothing to worry about. The guys in the first 10 rows of standing should be worried.

If a steward asks you to sit or you lose your season ticket what you gunna do?

Would love it if the fans put up a fight but I just can't see that happening.

They do that one row per week.... Half a season later everyone will be sitting down.

Don't sit there but ffs I hope it doesn't happen

These actions are triggered if the local authority (forced by the government SGSA regulations) write to the club. The national regulators issued a statement last month that appears to turn up the pressure on the prem and the championship to get standing uner control again.

At the back are examples of how clubs should be managing persistent standing:

http://www.flaweb.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/standing-in-seated-areas-2013.pdf

Based on this I don't believe the club will try to eradicate standing in L1, standers in this block are least vulnerable to action, especially at the top. Seems like a hardcore of standing can be tolerated. Agree that the front rows might be vulnerable and more so in K and J blocks (and SK1/N1)

Seems like the club will really need to properly announce their intention to reduce standing before using CCTV and ticket deactivation etc. The local authority can also impose seat restrictions (close sections of seating) on the club to beef up the enforcement.

A totally depressing read and coupled with that recent parliamentary debate we need a change in government before anything moves forward with safe standing. The FL/FA can consult on standing until they're blue in the face but the Tories continue to despise traditional football fans with a passion.

I'm clear that the club has no say in this, whether they support standing is irrelevant, the politicians and civil servants are calling the shots on this.

They could do it if they really wanted to, and with these card things it could be made a hell of a lot easier, as has been pointed out, they can just block your card, I bet there's a term in the contract that says the club can refuse the right to enter the ground at any point for reasons as follows, but not limited to: A tonne of bullshit reasons. The not limited to part is what will get people as the club can basically come up with any idea they want if they feel like it.

That ken bates steward tried to do this in the first couple of seasons in the new ground but realized in the end he was pissing in the wind as well as getting dogs abuse and the odd pint lobbed over him in the concourse. Although a lot of the characters in l1 then were more ex filbo kop lads that would stand their ground than nowadays, so wouldn't be surprised if the club fancied their chances now.

You lot make me piss lol lol

We are not 70's 80's stood on the kop.

season tickets credit card payments for tickets.

By sunday lunch the cops could pick up all fans if they wanted.

You may think L1 are hard but start dragging them out they will all sit.

If the club are under presaure to sort this they will bring in as many law as is needed.
